Knock-knock, travelers!

We've prepared a new patch for you, in which we've decorated the game for Christmas, added new animations, and fixed some bugs! We've also focused on the UI and significantly reworked it in many areas to make reading and playing more comfortable.

New Features
  • Added the ability to view the world map from battles and from the reward selection panel at the start of a run.
  • Increased the dialog window size in events.
Improvements
  • Fixed a bug where extra rewards were displayed at the end of a run.
  • Fixed tooltip display errors in events and cursor behavior on the map when moving the camera.
  • Fixed an issue where allies' intentions would change after receiving a buff.
  • Corrected the achievement "Be water, my friend" to properly unlock with 10 or more Evasion.
  • Fixed a bug where the "Thin Ice" talent did not apply Vulnerability to enemies.
  • Fixed an issue where the Armadillo's "Battering Ram" attack ignored a pet's Taunt.
  • Resolved UI inconsistencies in the hero class selection panel and hero panel in the Glossary.
  • Added automatic equipment for items rewarded after an Elevation, even if an item is already equipped.
  • Added chain animations on cards that cannot be played due to the "Helpless" debuff.
  • Event text will no longer auto-scroll if the player manually scrolls up.
  • Fixed a bug where "Cursed Death" did not deal damage.
  • Corrected target selection for "Call to Arms" when allies with Taunt are present.
  • Fixed the "Slowing" card shuffled by Grutall into the deck if an ally is present.
  • Improved the "Tit for Tat" talent by adjusting how many times its effect can stack.
  • Fixed the behavior of Armadillos.
  • Addressed interactions between "Warchief's Knuckle Dusters," Evasion, and Notch for Bjorn.
  • Fixed the "Snake Bite" behavior for the Lunar Druid.
  • Corrected the gold stealing mechanic of the card "A Hit To The Pocket".
  • Fixed an issue where the "Sacrifice to the Spirits" card did not burn upon play.
  • Added animations for equipment icons when a set effect activates.
  • Fixed the countercard "Call Of The Wild".
  • Fixed the card "Choosing Tactics/Choosing a Strategy".
  • Resolved the chest exploits with the mad dwarf.

For those who have purchased the game, thank you so much for supporting us. As a small indie studio, we thrive on community and it's been great to see some of you join our Discord with the intent of becoming speedrunners or just wanting to engage in community activities.

Looking Ahead!
Firstly, it has come to our attention that there are some balancing issues in the final level at that part. We're working on making that a little easier.
We're also aware of a couple of bugs, that we will be fixing after our Christmas break.

Additionally, it's clear that you want more content and we want to finish the game as proud as we can!

So I am really excited to say that we will be releasing a couple of seasonal updates in 2025 to enhance the current experience and fulfil our initial vision.

In these updates, you can anticipate:
  • More Levels
  • Player Emotes
  • Combat Enhancements (more info coming later!)
  • Multiplayer Improvements (including in-progress joining and general performance enhancements)

Wow. As 2024 is reaching its end, I marvel at where we are at. What started as a silly but personally important project to me found its way to a very loving and niche audience. When Sam (head at DOSMan Games) played an early (now unaccessible) version I had out there amd decided to reach out, I almost thought I was getting scammed.

Turns out I wasn't.

With the help of multiple lovely YouTubers, streamers, and influencers, the word spread. My personal life was a real mess, but as the game released I found strength and support in the gaming community. I can never thank you all enough for that. It truly means the world to me, and I can't wait to share what we got going on behind the scenes...

Territory: Farming and Warfare - Wit Studio
Bug fix: After the Royal Knights returned to the barracks, they were directly transferred to the player's handyman
Optimization: The problem that children were not active in receiving beauty pills
Optimization: When the inventory of a certain item reaches the minimum limit and is prohibited from being sold, the carriage will no longer transport items to the trading table
Optimization: Residents with brave talents and training will be given priority to join the army
New function: Change the giant tree into 4 types, and drop gem fragments or wisdom gems when withering
New function: Wisdom gems can summon "stone men" (similar to the elves who never leave in function)
Optimization: When automatically enfeoffing nobles, give priority to sending the elderly, and keep at least two male members of the royal family
Bug fix: The problem that the stone man will die of old age
Optimization: Add a rename button to the title bar of the carriage station, material pile, large box, and shelf window
Optimization: When the building is damaged by enemy attacks, the default is to suspend repairs. When there are no enemies nearby, the repairs will automatically resume

The new version 1.0.6 (24 December 2024) brings some news. Here the changelog:

update: better ā€˜hole’ event
update: can purchase 2 items at a time from most of merchants
update: can do a sprint anytime (sprint is also used to flee from chasing enemies)
update: can be chased by enemies (not monsters)
update: can discard food supplies and torches from the inventory (useful in ā€œdesperatesā€ situations)
update: now can rest for a while (from equipment menu) and recover some health points
update: fatigue now builds up faster when not defeating the enemies (it does not apply to barbarian)
update: new attack behaviour called ā€œHit and runā€ (can run after a fight, but consumes random resources or health points)
update: now sprints will cost more stamina (but can sprint after a fight)

Chapter 6 conclusion!
The game picks up right where you left off after Escarlata and Melrose took on the Royal Knights of Aldoria - led by Snyder! Now, continue to follow the young ladies as they make their way to Trinity!

Chapter 7!
Take a trip back in time with Shara, as she retells what went on once she came back from the Great Aldoria Mountains!

Chapter 8!
Things start to slowly unravel in Avabel... Follow along and see how it affects many members of the party!

New and updated areas to explore!
Your adventure will take you to new places! Enjoy the sights and sounds around not only Aldoria, but Iysta, Talmar, and Tashir!

Skills and abilities reworked!
At first, every party member had just "Magic" and "Technique". Not anymore! The skills and spells for most party members have been reworked and changed to fit more inline with the type of character they are. For example, a character may have "Sword Art" instead of "Technique".

Stat Adjustments!
Nearly every party member has had some sort of adjustment to their overall parameters. While most of these changes were small boosts, the most notable changes are Mishiru's and Kasai's base HP. Both have been raised by a significant amount.

New skills added!
There are new skills added that characters will learn mainly through progress but, there are some that will have be discovered, which brings me to my next point...
(About Esmeralda: She has been given the skill Driven. If you have already played as her, this skill will be added once she returns to the party. If you have not played as her, you will have this skill when she first joins the party.)

Side Quests!
There are several sides quests added in this update that contain extremely valuable rewards! While they are not necessary to progress in the game, I have made them worth your time if you decide to do them! So, don't be afraid to take a detour here and there!

Equipment Adjustments!
The equipment has been adjusted in ways to allow players more flexibility in what to use for the party members they have.
General Armor/Helms are strong and has not been adjusted.
Small Shields now have a hidden evasion boost that goes into effect immediate in battle.
Heavy Armor/Helms/Shields now have a hidden HP boost that will display when selected.
Light Armor/Helms now have a hidden speed boost that will display when selected, as well as a hidden evasion boost that does not display but goes into effect immediately in battle.
Magical Armor now have a hidden magic defense and MP boost that will display when selected as well as a small boost to MP regen that goes into effect immediately in battle.
Magical Helms now have a hidden magic attack/defense boost that will display when selected as well as a small boost to magical damage that goes into effect immediately in battle.
Bangles now have a hidden spirit and agility boost that will display when selected.
Arm Guards have a hidden HP boost that displays when selected and hidden evasion boost that goes into effect immediately in battle.
The stats of certain accessories have been adjusted to provide better boosts.

Quality of Life!
More of the text is highlighted when giving important information to help players.
A sound will now play and a message will display when encountering a rare enemy.
Certain battle effects have been added and/or adjusted for a better experience.
In response to some feedback, I have begun the process of removing the story related videos from the game and replacing them with pictures. This will allow players to go at their own pace. This is also a workaround for the issue of not being able to pause videos once they start.

Known Issues:
I am still working on a fix for pausing battles. The last attempt at it that I tried, the plugin ended up crashing the game entirely. For now, the only workaround I have for you is to click another window to make it your active window so that action will stop (music will still play).
There is a moment in between chapter 6 and 7 where a picture cutscene plays but the pictures slightly flicker. I haven't found the root of the cause for that, as the code is the exact same as the other code that is being used. I may have to rework it or test an alternative - but I will aim to fix that by the next update.

Links to the Short Adventure Wiki and Twitter have been added to the main menu! Just click the logo that is under the main menu choices, and it will open a new web page with your choice!

The wiki is being updated! All of the new main story bosses have already been added to the wiki as of this writing! I will be working on adding the optional bosses and a walkthrough in the upcoming days! I will also be updating the equipment section and adding a tips section for players that don't walk a walkthrough, but find themselves stuck!

Certain skills have been balanced.
Mishiru, Shara, and Esmeralda all have had their skill power adjusted for every skill. Mishiru and Shara has mostly been buffed while Esmeralda has been nerfed (she could solo the game during testing). Escarlata's Bullet Punch has been adjusted to deal the correct damage type, while most of her moves have received power adjustments mainly in the form of a boost.

There were countless bug fixes, error corrections etc. that do not need to be placed here. But, I'm telling you so that you know that things are always being worked on to provide the best experience I can for you!

As always, remember, this is a one-man project, so things may take time (I'm a father, full-time government employee)! But, I do strive to get updates out quicker! I felt that 6 months between updates was far too long! I promise to do better!

Thanks to all players for their support, I am happy to inform everyone that the latest plot update has arrived. In the new update, you will see more content, plot, and costumes of the protagonist. The 2025 Holiday Event

The Holiday Event will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, December 25th, after daily maintenance, and will continue until the end of the current season.

Special fleets of privateers will be sailing around the Windward Passage (the strait between Hispaniola and Cuba). These privateer ships will carry special chests containing rare guns and modules.

Loot, equip your ships with these guns and modules, and enjoy the battles!
