In addition to these familiar species, the map introduces 7 new ones, expanding the diversity of catches available. Let’s take a closer look at these species and the opportunities they present.
White-Eye Bream
White-Eye Bream is a ray-finned fish species of the Carp family, widespread in many large rivers of Europe and Asia and in drainages of the Black, Caspian, and White seas. These fish prefer to inhabit large, fast-flowing rivers and estuaries.
White-Eye Breams have silvery-gray elongated bodies flat on the sides and dark gray fins. These fish usually grow to a mass of 1-2.2 lb, with the maximum weight of a unique specimen rarely exceeding 3.3 lb. Monsters
Yes, you read that right—Monsters, plural! Because two monsters are better than one, aren’t they? Fans of the legendary Sturgeon Leviathan Monster will be thrilled to know it’s staying in the game. Even if you’ve already completed this mission before, you’ll have another chance to catch it.
But the monster tale doesn’t stop there—a brand-new beast is making its debut: the formidable Thorn-Ripper.
This aggressive creature prowls the depths of the Dnipro River, a true survivor hardened by centuries of evolution. Its spikes, razor-sharp and menacing, developed as both a defense mechanism and a weapon to dominate its territory. According to legend, the Thorn-Ripper harbors a grudge against fishermen, its rage fueled by the loss of its family to human nets. Stories tell of this monster ramming boats with its needle-like spikes, leaving behind nothing but shattered hulls and terrified anglers.
Catching the Thorn-Ripper won’t be easy. Cautious and elusive, it can only be lured by something truly extraordinary—like the Wasp Walker, a one-of-a-kind bait designed to tempt even the wariest predator. We won’t spoil the surprise by showing you what this monster looks like. You’ll just have to discover it for yourself when the battle begins. Good luck, Brave Anglers!
Lures, Baits and flavors of Ukraine
In addition to the baits, lures, and groundbaits already available in the game, new options are on the horizon for anglers to discover. Let’s take a closer look at what’s in store.
Salo and Salo Generalske
Salo, the traditional cured pork fat, is a beloved staple of Ukrainian cuisine. If you know what prosciutto is for Italians and jamon for Spaniards, then you understand what salo means for Ukrainians. Typically salted and sometimes infused with garlic or spices, it can be enjoyed raw, smoked, or cooked. But salo isn’t just a culinary treasure—it’s also an excellent bait for carp fishing. Its dense, fatty texture holds securely on the hook, releasing a tantalizing aroma that Common and Grass Carps find irresistible. This bait shines in warm weather, as the heat helps the fat release its enticing scent.
Salo Generalske, on the other hand, is a more refined, premium version. Enhanced through marinating, smoking, or unique seasonings, this "fancier" salo offers an even richer flavor profile. And just as it would impress diners, it’s sure to drive fish wild with its delectable allure.
And as a small taste of Ukrainian hospitality, take a moment to explore the location—you might stumble upon some free pieces of salo to use as bait.
Mole Crickets
While not as appetizing to people as salo, the mole cricket is a true delicacy for fish. This insect, with its hard exoskeleton and juicy body, is a natural treat straight from the Ukrainian landscape. Its earthy, organic aroma works wonders in attracting predatory fish. Widely regarded as one of the best baits for Catfish and other large species, the mole cricket is a trusted choice for local Ukrainian anglers, blending tradition with the wisdom of nature.
Crawling Worms
Thanks to its high flexibility and considerable size, the crawling worm makes an ideal bait for catching large fish. It is effectively used together with different types of hooks, which significantly raises the chances of a successful catch. This bait performs especially well in muddy and overgrown waters, where Catfish dwell and feed. Yummy!
Cicada Spoons
The Cicada is an effective lure designed for fishing at different water depths. Its compact body with front lead weight ensures an accurate and far cast, even in strong winds. The Cicada works great for catching a variety of predatory fish including Bass, Pike, Zander, and Trout thanks to its ability to adapt its vibration to the situation.
Twerky Runners
The Twerky Runners are new effective crankbaits that have a special hunchbacked shape to ensure a fast, high-frequency wobble. The lure has a special aroma that attracts catfish. Rigged with razor-sharp highest quality hooks, the Twerky Runner is great for trolling and particularly suited for using with more powerful fishing rods. Choose your Twerky Runner from a selection of sizes and colors depending on the fishing conditions and how deep you want to go.
Freaky Walkers
Walkers are surface lures that imitate the movement of a wounded fish, frog, or insect on the water surface. Thanks to their ability to produce a variety of movements, Walkers effectively provoke Perch, Chub, Asp, and other surface predators into attacking.
Bionic Slugs
Bionic Slugs are innovative lures that imitate a fast-moving fish and are made of high-quality silicone. With its realistic shiny scales and a forked tail, this lure mimics a wounded fish to attract predators. Its soft tail moves attractively in the water. The slug is easy to use: just put the hook through its mouth and tighten the line through the metal ring. Suitable for catching various types of fish in both fresh and salt water.
Thorn Jig Heads
Developed by the world’s top anglers, the Thorn Jig Head proves that the devil is in the details. Small changes lead to significant improvements. The beveled weight provides a louder and clearer impact even on soft ground, while a special plastic spike holds the silicone in place, allowing you to make the retrieve in difficult conditions. The weights are painted in colors visible to fish even at great depths, significantly increasing your chances for a successful catch!
Groundbaits
We’re also introducing a variety of new groundbaits, particles, and aromas, but we’d like to highlight a few personal favorites that hold a special place in our hearts. These selections carry a nostalgic charm for our team, reminding us of cherished memories from childhood.
Gingerbread Classic Groundbait has a characteristic sweet aroma and is made with spices, which means it can effectively attract fish even in cold weather. Low cost and high efficiency make this groundbait unique.
Mamalyha, a traditional Ukrainian-style corn porridge similar to Italian polenta, brings a rich, hearty flavor to the table—and to the water. When transformed into feeder bait with added aromas, it becomes an irresistible treat for all kinds of peaceful fish, including Bream and Carp. This time-honored recipe blends tradition with effectiveness, making it a go-to choice for anglers seeking success.
Corn sticks are not only a delicious snack popular in Ukraine, but also a feeder groundbait ideal to use for peaceful fish! It has an attractive texture and smell that ensures fish are active near your fishing spot for a long time.
Baked milk is a classic Ukrainian drink made by slowly baking milk overnight in a cooling traditional stove. This gentle process caramelizes the natural sugars in the milk, giving it a rich, caramel-like aroma. A geyser groundbait infused with baked milk aroma is designed to quickly release its enticing scent into the water, creating a powerful "geyser" effect that draws fish from afar. Especially effective in deep fishing, this chum's sweet fragrance guarantees to capture the attention of nearby fish, ensuring a successful catch.
This location is deeply cherished by the Fishing Planet team, and we've poured all our passion into creating it. The Dnipro River has inspired countless generations, serving as a symbol of Ukraine’s natural beauty and cultural legacy. The esteemed poet Taras Shevchenko captured the river’s essence in his powerful words: "The mighty Dnipro roars and bellows, The wind in anger howls and raves, Down to the ground it bends the willows, And mountain-high lifts up the waves."
These vivid lines not only highlight the river's grandeur but also convey its wild, untamed energy, which contrasts beautifully with the calm and peaceful experience that awaits you. As you explore this iconic waterway, you’ll follow the path of generations who’ve found inspiration, sustenance, and a deep connection to nature along its banks. Welcome to our home and enjoy your stay!

Today, we’re diving into the rich mythological roots of Aztecs: The Last Sun. The legends of night and day, blood sacrifices, and the eternal battle between Sun and Moon are deeply woven into the very fabric of our game. Let’s explore how these ancient beliefs shape our world's core mechanics and atmosphere.
In Aztec mythology, nightfall wasn’t just the end of the day—it was a terrifying reminder of the Sun’s vulnerability. When the Sun set, it entered a perilous battle with the Moon, represented by a vengeful goddess. This nightly conflict wasn’t guaranteed to end with the Sun’s return. The fear of a perpetual darkness, or Eternal Night, loomed over the Aztecs.
For the Aztecs, blood was the most sacred offering. According to legend, the Sun’s initial journey across the sky was only possible because the gods sacrificed their blood. In return, humans were tasked with continuing this tradition to keep the Sun strong. However, blood wasn’t the only offering. Animals, flowers, and copal (a fragrant resin) were also used to honor the gods, though none could rival the importance of human blood.
These myths form the foundation of our gameplay. In Aztecs: The Last Sun, players must collect and manage blood as a vital resource in the Blood Zone, a literal and metaphorical shield against the dangers of the night. This mechanic mirrors the Aztec belief that blood sacrifices kept the cosmic balance and ensured the Sun’s rise.
The title Aztecs: The Last Sun is deeply rooted in Aztec cosmology. According to their beliefs, the world has undergone four great cycles of creation and destruction, each marked by catastrophic endings such as floods, fires, or famine. The current age, known as the Fifth Sun, represents humanity’s final opportunity to thrive before the ultimate collapse.
In our game, this mythological context is more than just a backdrop - it’s the driving force behind your mission. As Tlatoani, you are not merely a ruler but a guardian of this fragile balance. Every decision you make, from resource management to sacrificial offerings, determines whether your city can withstand the looming threats. By safeguarding the Fifth Sun, you’re ensuring that the light of life continues to shine, warding off the chaos of eternal darkness.
Central to Aztec mythology is the nightly battle between the Sun and the Moon - a cosmic conflict that reflects both the physical and spiritual struggle for balance. According to legend, the Moon Goddess, once the Sun God’s sister, was betrayed and slain by him, her head cast into the sky to become the Moon. Though distant, her spirit remains restless, seeking vengeance each night.
In Aztecs: The Last Sun, this myth takes center stage in the game’s core mechanics. As darkness falls, the Moon Goddess exerts her influence, manifesting through Moon Beacons and other night-time dangers. Players must explore Sunken Temples, manage vital resources like blood to strengthen their city’s defenses and ensure the Sun’s victorious return at dawn. This eternal conflict between light and shadow isn’t just a backdrop - it’s the heartbeat of your journey as Tlatoani, blending strategy, survival, and myth into a seamless experience.
Aztecs: The Last Sun isn’t just a city-building game - it’s a journey through ancient mythology, a reflection of humanity’s eternal struggle to maintain balance and order. The myths of blood, night, and the Last Sun shape every aspect of the game, offering players a unique blend of strategy, survival, and storytelling.
We hope you enjoy uncovering the mysteries and challenges rooted in Aztec lore. Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and may your city thrive under the light of the Sun! ☀️

I didn’t have a grand blueprint when I started making Atomic Owl.
I thought, "It’s a platformer. How hard could it be? Maybe a year of work?"
Oh, how wrong I was.
"Okay, but I want Samurai and Ninja Bird warriors. Let's make THAT happen."
And...we did!
The journey to this point has been anything but straightforward. When I began, my game development experience was minimal. I’d interned as a playtester at Gearbox for Borderlands 3 and spent a year as a producer at PeopleFun, a Dallas-based mobile game studio. There, I led teams building word games—not the same as crafting a side-scrolling platformer.
But I had a vision. I wanted to create something that prayed at the church of Katana Zero.
At the time, I didn’t know how to code, animate, design UX, or make pixel art, but I did have my North Star. I felt, and still feel, that indie games were missing that nostalgic Saturday morning cartoon vibe. Think Sewer Shark, Gargoyles, or Ronin Warriors. I wanted to capture that magic. Games like Shovel Knight and Katana Zero, which channeled the spirit of Mega Man X, were my inspirations—and I wanted to add to that pantheon.
Atomic Owl was born.
The development process wasn’t perfect. I skipped prototyping entirely, assembling the game’s “muscle, sinew, and string cheese” before its skeleton. My team and I had to work backward, but here we are today, with a game on the verge of completion.
We’re aiming to go gold by June, tighten a few screws, and press that mythical "Launch" button. So far, the public has seen only 15–20% of what’s in store. We’ve hidden narrative twists, gameplay innovations, and new characters and enemies that we can’t wait to reveal.
To OTK, thank you for letting us unveil our release date at the Winter Games Expo. To everyone who supported our Kickstarter earlier this year: thank you. To our amazing Monster Theater Discord community for spreading joy, memes, and feedback: thank you. And to the Monster Theater team: your work has made this milestone possible.
I can’t wait for you all to experience Atomic Owl next summer.
With gratitude, Eldar, Your friend in Bladewing City

It’s almost holiday time, and so it’s also almost time for our yearly Winter Update. This time it will be more of a patch than a full-fledged update, as it focuses on optimizations, fixes and improvements. We hope you’ll get to enjoy smoother sailing in Barotrauma over the holidays after these upcoming changes!
In Santa’s bag of fixes this year:
Optimizations. We’ve made changes to the Farseer Physics engine which Barotrauma uses, as well as optimized rendering. These two should result in a significant performance boost, and there are also various other optimizations coming in the update.
Networking improvements. We’ve made various improvements and fixes to address “glitchy” behavior, such as enemies seeming to regenerate health after being shot, characters sometimes teleporting weirdly, or dead bodies hanging from platforms and twitching around. We’re also introducing new fixes to multiple networking errors, such as the "level equality check failed" and "entity event data exceeds the size of the buffer" errors, or the server lobby sometimes appearing empty.
Submarine improvements. Reworked the Berilia based on a community submission (thank you WJohnston), visually reworked the Kastrull drone, and fixed waypoints in the Camel.
Experience gains improvements. Made XP gains faster especially towards the end of a campaign in various ways, and you can now also adjust XP gain rates in the campaign settings.
More: Improvements to the environment visuals, a new optional “toggle run” input which you can bind to a key, and more.
Read more about the update now on our blog, and stay tuned for the release next week!
P.S. Besides the update, the Barotrauma soundtrack is now available on most streaming services.
