“Almost four years ago, we set out to make a game that would build and improve upon the foundations that were our previous titles. The obvious challenges would be crafting a good multiplayer experience and growing the studio to tackle a bigger development scope than ever before. Artistically, we knew we wanted to keep our stylized approach to making good-looking games, and with the world of Reverie where tales and legends coexist, it just felt obvious to embrace an illustrative art style.

"Make a screenshot look like it could have been hand-drawn” was perhaps a bit ambitious as a goal, but it is the kind of compass you need to guide you through a game’s development. It always felt like we, 2D artists, were illustrating a book that 3D artists magically brought to life. As is often (if not always) the case, we didn't nail it on the first try; but I never doubted that we were on the right track, all thanks to the talented people I have the honor and privilege to lead at Passtech Games (AND the rest of the studio of course, but we’re here to talk about art, sorry guys).
It is a bumpy ride trying to achieve such a distinct look while continuously improving your home-made engine. Looking back, I can’t believe the amount of basic tools we had to build from scratch, and how many tricks and techniques we had to come up with so that one could immerse themselves in this aesthetic. It can be frustrating to think that most of those efforts end up being invisible to the players’ eyes. On the other hand, we’ve seen countless reviews praising how the game looks, so I can safely say it wasn’t all for nothing.

Also, the fact that you are reading this means that some of this background work is about to get the audience it deserves!

Allow me a cheesy analogy: Ravenswatch started from the idea that we could make a game starring heroes that would come together to face titanic challenges, each with their own personal strengths. I hope you understand where I’m going with this while browsing through the work of the Ravenswatch artists. I genuinely mean it.“

The 2024 Steam Autumn Sale and Steam Awards are underway, and we would be more than grateful if you chose to nominate Between Horizons in the Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award category.


The undertaking of marrying a captivating sci-fi story with relevant themes and non-linear detective gameplay was a significant challenge (which we may break down in more detail some day). With the success and warm reception of our first game Lacuna, we felt confident in taking on this new challenge, this time greatly extending player agency by moving from a completely linear format to a semi-open world.

We are incredibly grateful for every vote, especially knowing how many fantastic story-driven games are coming out these days. After all, we are fans ourselves; both the story and gameplay of our latest project were shaped by some of our favorite media, including TV series like The Expanse and Battlestar Galactica and games such as Return of the Obra Dinn and various Telltale Games titles.

#DRIVE Rally - quisee
Hey Drivers!

Today, we’d like to give you a sneak peek at what’s coming in the December update for #DRIVE Rally.

Since this update will be larger than previous ones, we’ve decided to make it available for early testing via the beta branch feature on Steam (Check below how to switch your game branch).

Please note that this update is still a work in progress, and its features may undergo changes or improvements as part of our development process. Your feedback is always welcome and greatly appreciated!

How to switch branches?

To try the Public Beta branch, please follow these steps:
  • Open Steam
  • Right-click on #DRIVE Rally in your library
  • Select Properties
  • Go to the BETAS tab
  • Choose "Public Beta" from the "Beta participation" drop-down list
  • Wait for the game to update the files (if nothing happens, restart the Steam client)
  • Launch the game

What’s coming in the December update?
Here’s a glimpse of what you can test on the beta branch right now:

Free Roam Mode
Explore maps at your own pace, get familiar with every turn, and discover exciting bonuses like car upgrades or extra in-game cash. Collect all 7 hidden letters scattered across the map to unlock the next location for Free Roam exploration. At the moment you can explore all four maps available in #DRIVE Rally - Holzberg, Dry Crumbs, Revontuli, Vinh Vang.



Free Roam Mini map
To make navigation easier, the Free Roam mode comes equipped with a mini map that helps you find your way.



Car Dashboard and Mirror Addons
Each map features 5 hidden addons for your car’s dashboard and mirror. Once unlocked, you can customize your car’s interior in the garage. Each vehicle can be equipped with one dashboard and one mirror addon to personalize your ride.



Keep in mind that these features are still under development, so some elements may change in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more updates and let us know what you think of the new content! 🚗💨

First we would like to say that we appreciate those who played the demo and who gave feedback. We are aware there were issues and we fixed problems with multiple patches through Next Fest as fast as we could. We would like to explain the current state of the demo and help bring some clarity as well as address issues. The latest patch is very different from the first and whilst most liked this version it did leave some questions.

Why the change? We wanted to try different lighting, give players a body and even worked on introducing a different character to play as for part of the game. Most players preferred the new torch and lighting, graphics and having a full body mesh for the player. This has come with its issues and challenges as some of you may have noticed with the model. There may also be some confusion with why the character change, we wanted to try these new features whilst we had the demo live so we can collect feedback in time for the next stage which we will get into below. The demo will be taken down as we focus on development and go through feedback.

What is the next step?
We are now working on bringing the game into early access where the game will be broken down into chapters and updates adding more to the village. We are aiming to release early access this coming December/January.

The first stage will be to launch in early access with the Prologue, this will follow the housekeeper who has been hired by the neighbour. It will lead up to the events of the main game, giving more lore and depth to the Yurei house. This will be a chapter separate from the main game.

Main game - The main game will launch with the player home, adding a whole new area to explore and fear. You will have access to the rest of the village to look around and get an idea of scale and what's to come. This will not have quests for the other areas but will have easter eggs and some extra things to encounter to help tide you over until the next update.

Going forward each update will add new areas to the experience growing in content, playtime and quality.
This is not how we wanted to go about it, as we wanted it to be a full experience at launch but due to funding this is the only current option.

We really do appreciate any support and apologise for any issues we had with the demo, it is all about learning and we are willing to put the work in to fix things as we hope players noticed from demo launch to the latest patch.
