October Development Update
It has been a while since the last Roman Triumph Development Update… I've been pouring effort into both big changes and the finer details of the game. In addition to adding major features, I've spent a lot of time on quality-of-life improvements and tackling playtest feedback.
Here's a look at some of the most exciting updates.
Building Upgrades & Wonders
Introducing a new building upgrade system also lets you enhance workplace safety, boost housing comfort, and increase production.
Defense upgrades plays a big role in the game now, they include a choice of arrow types for archer towers (iron-tipped, fire, etc.) and options for Ballistae and Scorpions, each with distinct stats and upkeep.
Additionally, I've added new wonders: the Triumphal Arch and Colosseum!
Environment Updates
Maps now feature lakes, varied landscapes, and fertility overlays, adding diversity and strategy to where settlements are built. With natural defenses like lakes and rich soil indicators for farmland, there’s more to consider when expanding your city.
Expanded Production
The food system now includes new items sausages (Butcher), and bread (Bakery), each bringing unique health benefits to citizens. Production chains are deepened with buildings like the Clay Pit and Carpenter, adding complexity to resource management.
New Enemies & Difficulty Options
Get ready for tougher foes like Berserkers and Baby Hydras. Difficulty modes now range from Pax Romana (peaceful) to Peritus Princeps (normal), allowing you to tailor the game to your playstyle, even removing mythological creatures if you prefer.
Some essential fixes, changes and additions to Items, monsters and the Store.
Keep in mind that the Store changes mean you will have to buy your Weapons and extra Tools now, they no longer spawn by default. This also means the Secondary Objectives are now much more important for teams that do not have the budget yet for buying (all the) Weapons.
Bugfixes:
fixed host player getting a fade-out effect when a client player is killed by the Hunter for the first time,
fixed the Source hunting monster sometimes hunting indefinitely,
fixed that in some sessions the Hunter would never spawn, instead the Source monster would spawn every time,
fixed issue in the Camera Item monster which could cause a crash or script execution failure if it finishes attacking a player,
fixed issue in the Black Box Item model that would still be visible even after it had changed into a monster,
Polishes:
Added gas explosion sound to Black Box monster,
Added idle sounds to the Item monsters,
Player store inventory is now saved locally and is now Steam Cloud synced,
Weapons can now be bought from the Store,
Weapons and extra Tools now do not spawn by default, players will have to buy them first,
Added a new mission failed voice line to make it more clear players get penalized for not destroying the infection.
