Welcome to Halloween Season in HIGhSCORE! I may have started with just a sprinkle of spookiness, but things got a little out of hand (in the best way). Now the Hub’s haunted, there’s a bat buddy flying around, and pumpkins are practically paying you to play. Check out what’s new below!
Hub Makeover - The Hub area has been transformed with eerie Halloween decor! Step in and experience the spooky vibes!
Pumpkin Collectables - Scattered around the Hub, you’ll find collectible pumpkins granting between 250-500 coins each. Don’t miss out on these spooky rewards!
Bat Companion - During the Halloween season, a helpful Bat Companion will join you in your runs. This winged ally will automatically collect Coins, Orbs, Combo Items and Keys so you can focus entirely on survival. After the season, the bat will fly away, but watch out for future companions with unique abilities in the next major update!
New Halloween Stage - A chilling new Halloween-themed stage awaits! With a nightmarish setting, this stage will become a permanent addition to HIGhSCORE!

Button Animations - All buttons now have a subtle animation to enhance responsiveness and menu flow, making navigation feel smoother.
Tooltip Revamp - The tooltip system has been revamped for a cleaner and more consistent look across all inspectable buttons.
Skill Tree Icons - Certain icons in the Skill Tree have been redesigned to provide clearer visuals and improve the overall UI consistency.
Jump in Style - A new jump animation has been added to bring a bit more variety to your aerial moves! Now every leap has a little extra flair—perfect for showing off while dodging danger.
Player Stats Resized - To improve readability, player stats in the Hub's and Game's Pause Menu have been resized, with reorganized buttons to create a more streamlined layout.
Portal Shader Update - The portal visuals have been upgraded with a more realistic shader while maintaining the game’s art style.
Buttons - All frame buttons have been replaced with blank buttons to create a cleaner, more interactive UI across menus.
Splash Text - A randomly generated splash text now appears in the Main Menu and Run Summary, providing funny, motivating messages each time you load up or finish a run.
Hall of Fame Placeholders - Entries in the Hall of Fame now feature placeholders, giving a more structured and organized look to the leaderboard.
Local Leaderboard Bug Fix - A bug that caused only the first entry to display in the Local Leaderboards has been squashed. Now, all scores are visible!

I hope you’re all excited about the update! Originally, I just wanted to release a small Halloween patch, but it turned into something a bit bigger in the end.
Huge thanks to every HIGhSCORE player out there, relentlessly chasing those high scores - seeing new names on the leaderboards always brings me endless joy!

Refactored text strings so combat log should use more natural language. The changes will allow Asian languages to be added better in the future.
Removed the German language option as it served it's purpose until a full translation push happens closer to release (basically making sure I could implement localization easily and not have to go through the entire codebase/all text nodes near the end).
Bug fix: enemies stop after the player dies.
Bug fix: Player movement tile options handle visibility checks better, should be close to perfect.
Added stop points to the enemy actions to prevent multiple enemy actions functions from firing off at the same time.
On player death a screenshot is taken and the combat log is exported to the player folder. This can be sent to me for checking for errors/bugs.
Clear the player's movement points and block when exiting to the main menu. The player could play two movement cards, exit, re-enter play two movement cards, exit, enter to get infinite move and block on the first combat turn.
Added VFX to active cards, gear that is actively targeting, and active enemies during their turn. Removed the active card going to the center of the screen blocking the player's view.
Bug fix: fixed the class upgrades only giving the player the first card (even if they selected the second).
Added achievement popup to the main battle page and the map screen so players can check for achievements before making decisions.
Added a give feedback button that leads to a google form.
Guests ignoring the fame level and visit the tavern if at least one beer is at pricing 0
Each served beer has a 50% chance to give extra fame
Free beer is shown on the top of every shank
More visual decoration at the uncles tavern location (Ivy on walls)
Meals are going dirty now if the last ingredient was eaten

Since the last update, when you go to a graveyard savepoint, the brightness is applied at the previous brightness. If you leave and enter another area through the portal right next to it, it works fine. This will be fixed in the next update.

I'm thrilled to announce my next game, Backrooms: Found Footage 2! It is a sequel to the first one where things are getting even more exciting. This game will be much longer and more realistic than the first one. The game is in early development and it will not be released any time soon, but it's worth the wait. It will be a paid game, unlike the first one, though the price tag will stay under 10 dollars.
The game does not follow the happenings of the first game, it will have its own story. It takes place in the modern world, which is going to make the graphics even more realistic. That's all I can say about it for now. Here's some artwork that I made for this sequel:
Will you ever update the first game? - Yes, I have some plans for the first game as well. There are some things that need to be fixed, though I will not make the game itself longer. I will focus on the sequel for now.
