8th Heaven - Mighty Max
Hello everyone! Small QOL patch for this month!

Devlog

We went back to work at the beginning of September after a few weeks' vacation. The game is progressing well and the next update should arrive at the end of October. It will contain everything on the roadmap, and more! We will also add the first "giveable" items. You'll be able to find different items all over the place, and earn them in some of the mini-games.

Each NPC has its own preferences, so you can take the opportunity to make some gifts to build up your relationship more quickly! You can follow the game's twitter/X account for more info and screens on development too, we post from time to time. But not too much, we have to work too ːKnightsHonkersː

Gloryhole is finished too, and now we're back to work on the various new NSFW scenes. Since demand was quite high... We'll be adding quite a bit of NSFW content in the next update.

For translations into (especially) Asian languages, we're working on it. But it's going to take some time, so we'll talk about it in a later devlog.

Anyway, here's the patch note for the update!

Patch 0.12

Content
  • New icon in the UI indicating the day/night status.
  • The same icon is now visible in the glossary to indicate a character's event time!
  • New mouse and keyboard movement system (yeaaah)
  • The Medium can talk now!

Bugs
  • The game has been ported to a new version of Unity (2021.3 LTS).
  • Miscellaneous UI optimization.
  • Water shader has been reworked.
  • Water and waterfall VFX have been reworked.
  • Correction of various pathfinding problems.
  • The posing of all dialogues has been revised and various small cutscene errors have been corrected.
  • Rewamp of the animation blending system, no more weird bugs with overworld characters animations (like Bethomet in the void moonwalking...).
  • Reduced size of npc collision box to prevent player from jamming them.

Known issues

We've rewritten a lot of the systems for this patch (especially UI stuff), in anticipation of even more strong foundations for the development. There may be a few bugs we haven't seen, which will be corrected in the next patch. As usual, if you see something, you can post a message on the game's steam forums, thanks!!!

There was an issue with the launch but I've managed to somewhat fix it. I can only release on Windows at the moment until I hear back from steams customer support. I'm really sorry to any MAC users but I'll try to get it sorted asap.

Hi again. I want to apologize for the delays, we are currently working out some packing errors that are prohibiting us from uploading to Steam, I don't have an ETA but these things can take a few hours. I apologize again dearly. I will update you all when the beta is live.

Hi everyone, this is a tough announcement for me to put out as I am just as excited for this update as you all are, but in order for this update to be truly special, the release date needs to be pushed back 4 weeks, to October 28th.

This is especially hard as I feel like I’m letting you all down in doing this but I feel that putting out rushed content would be letting the community down even more. This month I hired and on-boarded an additional team member but they unfortunately were unable to meet expectations. Scaling a team to meet demand is very difficult, and even more so when working on an update. It was a misstep on my behalf and I apologize. I greatly appreciate the community support over the past few months, and it has given me the resources to build a team that can make this the best backrooms game as possible. Unfortunately there’s a lot more nuance than money spent equals content.

I am the only developer working on BET currently. I am actively working to make this change but in the mean time, I greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.

As for a little progress update, as you the community is more than entitled to one, I am currently working on the last of 3 levels for this update. An extra 4 weeks gives me plenty of time to add lots of polish, make the gameplay as fun as possible, and maybe even additional content. I’ve also added a sneak peek of an upcoming entity =)

I’m sure there will be a lot of questions, but I predict these to be the biggest of them so i’ve answered them ahead of time. I will be in discord and steam forums, answering any additional questions.

Why tell us the day before the release day?
This was a delay I thought I was able to avoid, even with the reasons mentioned above. Delaying the update is the last thing I want to do, so I wanted to give it my best effort to make the deadline. I realize now that this would mean shipping rushed content and the community does not deserve that.

If the update was almost ready, why are you pushing it back 4 weeks?
I know delays suck for everyone, and the last thing I want is to mislead expectations. 4 weeks guarantees there will be no future delays and it also gives me more time to add even more content to make this update.

Hi everyone,

We're excited to bring you another patch that addresses reported issues and enhances your overall experience with the game. We focused on the randomness (RNG) elements causing frustration this time. One common concern was the second node of the first map, where players choose a weapon for their run. Some options were significantly less viable than others, leading to unnecessary restarts.

Now, let’s dive into the patch notes:

Fixes:
  • Fixed Hot Reload Perk consuming its active buff of no ordnance cost with a free repeating beam attack at the beginning of the player's turn
  • Fixed Player not getting a new Crewmember because of AI-filled slots in the outcome of the Colony Defender event. If the player has a whole crew and AI installed, the AI will be uninstalled, and an AI Core item will be placed in his cargo bay, thus allowing for the new crewmember to come on board. If the player has a whole crew and is all human, the Colony Defender character will not offer to join your crew but will give you the other rewards.
  • Fixed Advantage card Reactor Boost giving just +1 Reactor power instead of 2
  • Fixed a potential soft lock on defeating an enemy caused by the explosions on death

Balance Changes
  • Modified the weapon selection on the second node to offer 3 options instead of 2 , this should lead to less restarts to get the desired weapon. Also removed some anti-synergistic weapons from it.
  • Arbalest: removed the Light Flak and Quad flak equipment from the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Arbalest: added the Coil-gun to the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Marauder: removed the Beam laser and Coil-gun from the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Lancer: removed the Beam laser and Light Flak from the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Lancer: added the light laser to the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Firebrand: removed the Ion cannon and the Beam laser from the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Firebrand: added the Light Flak from the selection pool in the second node weapon pick event
  • Heavy Flak: reduced ordnance cost from 5 to 4, increased cooldown from 4 to 5
  • Titanium Shells: reduced 0rdnance cost from 4 to 3, increased cooldown from 3 to 4
  • Reckless attack: reduced energy cost from 2 to 0 , increased cooldown from 3 to 4
  • High explosives: reduced mass cost from 3 to 0, increased energy cost from 2 to 4
  • Overwhelming Barrage: reduced mass cost from 3 to 0 , increased cooldown from 4 to 6
  • Retribution: reduced mass cost from 4 to 3
  • Bombard: fixed bug where discarding or playing it would consume the card
  • Localization was added to the "Press tab to lock on screen" text in the equipment inspector, and it was made more evident by animating it.
  • Localized an escape pod event that was omitted
  • Improved Lancer's defense capability by fixing the drafting table of Suppressor Console Mk II.
    Changes exclude cards like:
    • Leech Defenses, Defiant Arms, Sap, Waylay, Diminishing Hack, Compromise Weapon and include previously missing cards such as:
    • Neutralize - Disable a random enemy Weapon each turn for 2/4 turns player turns (depending on security)
    • Missile Jamming - Delay incoming missiles by 1 + Security
    • Glitch - Disable targeted enemy equipment for 1 turn. Consume 1 security also to remove a pip
    • Wipe - Remove a Hack debuff
    • Reset - Discard a card from 1 random disabled enemy equipment. If not available, disable a random equipment
    • Stall - For 2 turns, enemy playing a card removes 1 pip from another random card. Consume 1 Security: +2 duration
    • Discharge - Remove 1 pip from all disabled equipment pieces
    • Denial - Disable targeted enemy equipment for 2 turns. Consume 1 Security: Return card to hand.
    • Security Bypass - Steal enemy’s security.
    • Pacify - Disable all enemy weapons for 1 turn.
    • Reboot - Disable enemy equipment for 1 turn after it plays a card.
    • The previously removed cards can still be found in the drafting tables of other hacking equipment, such as the Corruptor Consoles, which can be found in shops.
    While it may sound like a broken record, thank you again for all the support and goodwill you've shown us. We sincerely appreciate it, and it has motivated us to work hard through the launch week and address issues as quickly as possible.

    The patch cycle will slow down as we move forward in the coming days. We'll be taking some time to rest and recharge before returning with renewed energy.
