In the previous blog, we talked about an improved lighting system. We’re close to releasing it publicly, but we love to do a test first! We’re curious about the results in different worlds, the performance on different hardware and your opinion about it.
The differences aren’t extremely obvious when just roaming the outside world, but it does really affect interiors, and it’s especially noticeable in underground conditions. Tunnels that are far from sunlight are actually dark.
If you want to try the beta, go to your Steam Library, right-click Colony Survival and go to “properties”. In the “betas” tab, enter the access code sendfeedbackplease. This will unlock the beta-light branch. Enable it and your game will be automatically updated with the new lighting! It should not pose a risk to old savegames. You might encounter some buggy edge cases though.
As the access code suggests: please send feedback! Join our Discord and share your feedback in #general or put your screenshot in #screenshots. Feel free to leave a comment on this blog too.

These past few days have been truly unforgettable, especially when it comes to community reception. Not only do we have +700 reviews and a 94% positive ratio, but we also have a super involved fanbase sharing invaluable suggestions on Steam and Discord.
Now it’s high time to return the love.
As a token of appreciation, we’re adding a Sandbox Mode in our very first patch!
Introducing the Sandbox Mode!
Cataclismo's Sandbox Mode is the ultimate building tool for Hogardians. Get access to unlimited resources to design every bit of your stronghold as you see fit. Once your fort is ready, add as many units and horrors as you please to test your tactics in a safe space.
This is especially useful for those craving a proper place to create blueprints. Also for players asking for a more relaxed building environment. Many used the campaign levels and skirmishes, dealing with limited materials and horrors’ ceaseless attacks.
We’ve listened (we always do!) and Sandbox Mode is the result. Enjoy the most faithful expression of Cataclismo’s endless creativity...
And share your creations in our new building contest: LORD OF THE FORTS!
This patch also fixes an issue causing a stone arc cross that was not providing a proper path.
Thank you, Hogardians!
Seriously. THANK YOU.
You have been exceptionally supportive, kind, and patient with us during these first days of Early Access. The game is getting better and better because of your feedback. We’ll keep reading your reviews and ideas thoroughly!
Demo has been updated! The new demo features metroidvania-esque elements, where backtracking is rewarded and different levels can influence one another.
This demo contains 15 puzzles, and will take roughly:
30+ minutes to reach the end screen
100+ minutes to complete all puzzles
150+ minutes to obsessively complete literally everything (don't do this)
I wanted to cram as much as possible into this demo, so on-boarding is a little rushed. Things will ramp up a lot more nicely in the full game. Please reach out if you have any issues, especially any accessibility or QoL concerns.
