Oppidum - Dargo
Hey scouts!

By the guardians, summer has finally hit us with all its strength, and we're longing to take a swim at Litore's beach. Who's joining us?

Another thing that comes with summer is usually a wardrobe update. Well, in our case we decided to go with a different kind of update, and give our Steam page a fresh coat of paint. We also have some exciting news to share, so let me tell you all about it 👇

We updated our screenshots, and here's why!
One of the things we had been meaning to do for a while is to update the screenshots on our Steam store to better show off how the game looks currently, much closer to what you'll see when it's released. The previous screenshots had been taken at a very early stage of the game's development, back when we launched the store around a year ago.

We've tried to keep the spirit of the previous screenshots, while also introducing new stuff that we've been implementing into the game. I think we did a pretty good job!

Our first enemy screenshot looked cool and dynamic, but the effects, posture, and even some of the items were outdated. We decided to take the opportunity to show a more exciting battle by implying higher stakes. We also know how important it is for the user to see what the game actually looks like when you play it, which is why we kept the interface.

You might also notice some post-processing effects on the old pic, which are not included in the new one. We added those manually for the placeholders, as we considered them for the final game, but we're still on the fence about it. Do you think we should still give it a try? 🤔

This is a funny one. Multiplayer has always been one of the top features we wanted to define our game, so we implemented it pretty early on. However, at this point in the development, there wasn't much to do! We definitely wanted to let you know about the resource gathering in the game, but our new screenshot also lets you know what you can do with those resources.

You can see one player chopping wood, while the other processes that wood at the lumber mill... also built with gathered resources! This was a neat chance to show off the buildable camp, different equipment, and other activities, like tending to your crops. 🌾

Narrative is a huge part of our game, bigger than it usually is for most survival games, so including some dialogue and characters was essential. Obviously, a lot of quests and storylines are dependent on the features that are included in the game, so at the time we didn't have a lot to work with. This was probably the most placeholder-y image of the bunch.

The dialogue, the NPC, and even the camera angle as you see them there are not present in the current version of the game. We also thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce, arguably, the most important character aside from yourself, our best boy Kay, and give a small glimpse of the main quest and the places it will take you to. 🏰

Last but not least, in spite of the BIG CLUB and all of the spiky rocks, it's hard to deny that almost any monster looks scarier at night. And you should be scared of them. It's a good moment to remind you that the game has a day and night cycle, displaying a more than appropriate enemy to haunt you in the dark. But also, it’s a very good chance to show off the different enemy types you'll be facing in the game, their effects, animations, and even their attached mechanics. See the chest they’re defending? That's your reward if you manage to get past them. Good luck! 💪

There are even more new screenshots on the store, so do go over there and take a good look at them. We’d love to hear your opinion.

We got some media coverage!
Yesss, we're pretty excited about this! We've been featured in a few articles from some big media outlets. Looks like Oppidum is getting some attention, and people are liking what they're seeing. PC Gamer was the first article we noticed, followed by IGN and 3DJuegos! Not gonna lie, I'm loving this kind of attention and hoping that it will only snowball from here 😁

If you take a look at the articles, do tell us what you think about them. Little-known (not really) secret about the video game industry: getting attention is hard, and you need to work hard for it, so of course we're pumped about this. Here's hoping you get to see us featured again in the near future!

By the way, we’ve also included a longer-than-usual gameplay video on our Steam page and YouTube channel, which we think might have helped make people notice us. In this video, we show a section of the game and how it feels to play it. Take a look!

That’s our dose of exciting stuff for today. I hope you join us in celebrating achievements like this, and keep giving us your support!

See you for the next update!

Bachman Media Network – THE place for blood and circus entertainment.

Get ready for a new era of breathless entertainment that is to die for. Welcome to DEATHSPRINT 66. It’s fast! It’s electrifying! It’s incredibly gory! And it’s coming later this year from the Bachman Media Network.

Would you like to know more? Check out the first episode of Behind the Speed, featuring the sadistic geniuses and course builders at Sumo Newcastle:

But what is the Bachman Media Network?

Formed in 2060, the Bachman Media Network is the brainchild of eccentric entrepreneur and tech trillionaire, Braylon Bachman.

Entertainment has been long forgotten during these treacherous times of war, climate change, famine, and survival. The Bachman Media Network’s aim is to rectify that by providing never-before-seen gameshows, with high stakes and heart-pumping, memorable moments.

By combining the ever-popular game show format with the revolutionary STEM-Link technology, created by Braylon Bachman himself, DEATHSPRINT 66 was born.

STEM-Link was first shown off in a successful pilot series, where contestants (called jockeys) used an augmented reality headset to race robots around a booby-trapped obstacle course.

Now, three years later, the Bachman Media Network is turning up the heat and raising the stakes even higher. They’ve heard, and they’ve listened – robots are out, and clones are in; made of real flesh and 200% more blood than their human counterparts for maximum gore.

We’re sure you’ll agree that DEATHSPRINT 66 is on track to be the deadliest show on Earth when it launches later this year!

These Doomed Isles - Triplevision Games
Update to Tutorial 3
The Merry Fairy - Sarienn
Dear friend,

Alan Watts once said: “Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth.” I think this is why saying hi and introducing myself is so hard. But I want to try anyhow because who I am has very much to do with The Merry Fairy, which I can comfortably call a memoir game or an autobiography of sorts.

You see, I am Fairy. My given name is Laura, but I feel little connection to it and I do plan to change it officially in the future. I live at a farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the west of Sweden. My life is simple, close to the forest I love, and very remote. If I am not at my computer, developing The Merry Fairy, you can find me in the garden, growing a lot of crops, or maybe deep in the forest, gathering mushrooms. Sometimes, if it rains too much, I might be inside, sewing or knitting or crocheting. Or perhaps I might bake, or cook - I love to cook! Or... heh, there are so many things I love to do!

And so the first thing that comes to mind when I think to present myself to you is: Happy. I am very, very happy. I am happy that I get to discover the truth of my heart, every day. I am happy that I get to create, explore, nurture, and grow. I am happy to be able to appreciate the amazing beauty of this life of mine. Even when I am very sad, I am happy that I can embrace my tears and learn the lessons they carry.

My life has not always been like this and it took me about 40 years to get here. I was born in Romania during the worst Communist times possible. When I was about 19, I accidentally started an unbelievable career in video games. This allowed me to move to Italy and then later on, to Sweden. I got to work on many interesting projects, know a lot of amazing people, and travel the world.

But in all those years, my heart craved the forest. Yet I felt I could not allow myself to head towards where I needed to. I taught myself to ignore my intuition and listen to other people's opinions about how to live my life. I convinced myself that this is what it means to be an adult, and I did my best to appreciate a life that looked amazing on paper, but it was not right for me.

And then COVID happened and the world changed. I experienced the pandemic in a tiny, windowless office created in a wardrobe space, in a small apartment in Stockholm. In the darkness of my little room, I imagined a window I could open. This window would lead to a forest, a magical, gentle place that smelled of pine and felt like home. This is how The Merry Fairy started to grow in my head. And what gave me the courage to leave the big city, and move as close as possible to my beloved forest.

Today, I live in Fairyland and I feel that I have found my home. I learned to lean into my magic, and to discover my deepest, most powerful spells. There are many stories, fables and a lot of art inside of me, waiting to be shown to you. I am slowly getting ready to tell you that magic truly exists, and that you can find it in the place where your heart feels most at home.

The Merry Fairy is true and inspired by real life and real people. As a video game, I am building it as that window I deeply needed when I lived in Stockholm, slowly losing all my hope and dreams. And I need your help!

I made a small and peaceful Discord server where I share my daily life in Fairyland and the progress I am making with The Merry Fairy. The experience I wish to give you is gentle and soothing, as well as hopeful, inspiring and practical. And I cannot do this alone. Will you join my server, keep me company, give me your honest feedback and perhaps become my true friend?

Yours,

Fairy
