The Hidden Art of Innkeeping - SeaPhoenix
It's been a while since my last devlog! It was great to get feedback from players of the demo (thanks to everyone who tried it out!), and I've been busy incorporating some of the suggestions. I recently completed the main storyline of the game, and am finishing up some of the side quests related to the guests and villagers. After that, I'll be playtesting - this usually takes longer than I think it's going to, because not only do I have to fix the bugs I find, I sometimes get ideas for more things to add! - and then I hope to send the game to other playtesters within the next month or so.

In the meantime, I wanted to highlight some of the things you'll see your guests doing if they stay at the inn. This gives me the opportunity to showcase the work of hiddenone, a pixel artist who created a number of the cute sprites you see in the game, and who did a wonderful job animating them and providing useful suggestions for the game as well.

If you can find a room for Arlecchino and his family, you can see them perform at the beach. They may be a little wobbly at first, since they've been out of practice, but if they stay multiple times, you can help them get better and watch their chest of tips grow!

Meanwhile, at the inn itself, you can choose to build a gymnasium and watch some of your guests work out. Chin-ups are not easy, but Trenton here gets faster and higher over time if he gets the chance to practice! Hiddenone added a red flush to his face and some sweat drops to show what an exertion these chin-ups are.

That's all for now, but I'll post another update soon!

Improvements
  • When holding a part, you can directly put it into a storage, without opening the menu. (using grab/drop button) . Without this, too heavy / big parts were immposible to store, until now)
  • When browsing storage, item can be also taken directly to your hand, without tranfering it to your inventory.
  • Stat bars now flash when percentage is low. They also hide when full, and some show again when value is lower than 75%

Bugs fixed:
  • Thatch plate can now be used in Thatch building plans again
  • Impossible to build certain building plans with Items straight from players inventory.
  • Furnace Plan started to tick and burn when item added to it's build.
  • Exit the storage menu, when draging items between storages, did not cancel dragging opperation
  • Store all button now stores only correct type of items based on inventory type

Known issue, contextual message says "E" instead of "left mouse" to directly store to inventory, from player's hand

Never Mourn - Primal Seed Studio
Hello everyone!
Here is the content of the new hotfix:

- Completing Level 3 now brings you back to Level 1 : Making runs now endless instead of forcing a game over.

- Fixed an issue with Irea's basic attack that would cause it to miss enemies that were really close.
Improved visibility of Irea's attack VFX

- Improved general performances in level 2 and 3. This should ease the CPU/GPU load and improve overall performances.

- Fixed an occurence on global effects that would degrade performances during a run.

- Fixed an issue that would cause a small lag spike everytime a monster or you played an animation.

- Fixed a few causes leading to the end of room not to trigger properly, requiring you to raise a specific monster. It might not have been the only cause and we are keeping an eye to find and reproduce possible other causes.

- Automatically setup VSync in menus to reduce GPU and CPU load in menus. VSync in-game is still as chosen in the options.

- Fixed an issue where main menu video would stop after going in-game.

- Fixed an issue musics from previous level weren't stopped correctly and used CPU for nothing when going into a new level.

- Heavily reduced downtine between waves if the player kills every monster fast enough.

- Fixed some projectile behaviour.

- Fixed an issue where video trying to play would crash on some PC's

- Fixed level for spells in the Pause Menu not being reset if no spell was selected for that slot.

- Fixed Read the Bones icon being missing.

- Fixed monster icons on Pregame Menu and Monster Loadout Menu not being reset properly.

- Fixed juggernaut jump attack's animation transitionning badly. Fixed jump attack targetting so the juggernaut doesn't spin before casting the spell.

- Fixed Incinerator's Incinerate hitbox to be more consistant with the VFX.

- Polished Irea's basic attack overall feeling: Gap closer, fixed the hitboxes (no more missing melee) and improved VFX.

As always we will keep an eye on your feedbacks and do our best to fix the annoying problems you encounter fast!

Thank you and have a great day!

Dethroned - Irid Games
We are excited to announce that Dethroned will be released into Early Access in just 26 hours!

In this kind of last-minute announcement, we'll tell you what to expect from the current version.

Early Access Content

The Early Access version is fully playable. You can beat and endlessly replay the game because of procedurally generated maps and two difficulty levels. Currently, there are 3 mages, 28 creatures, 25 artifacts with 4 different rarities, 7 spells, 3 biomes, and 18 locations. After beating the game by 3 mages, a stage-based, huge battle awaits you.

Achievements

35 Steam achievements are ready for unlocking!

Difficulty

Hard difficulty not only makes the game more difficult - enemies get shields, ricochets, and bosses have more health, but it also gives you a positive change - an additional artifact slot! It opens new possibilities, while still being a challenge.

If you'd rather wait for the full release, it's planned for the end of 2024. Keep in mind though, that the price might increase as we add more content. If you want to help us choose a direction for Dethroned, join our Discord. We plan to do polls there to find out what you think we should prioritize.

Strangeland - Mark Y. @ Wormwood Studios

It’s been three years since we released Strangeland—how time flies! But in a way, it feels like a lifetime ago, and even longer since the death of my grandparents, the painful grain of sand that, with my friends’ help, we were able to turn into this pearl.

We’ve heard from dozens of players about how the game helped them work through their own grief or despair, or gave them a grim laugh at its dark humor. It means a lot to know our little game had such an impact. Like our first creation Primordia, it has staying power: this past year we sold the most copies of any year yet. It goes to show how much it matters to have devoted and supporting fans like you all.

One of those fans is Eduardo, the amazing translator who brought Primordia to Spanish speakers, and he’s nearing completion of his Strangeland translation. That translation, and the periodic bugfixes that James and I do, will probably be the last update for the game, but you never know... life is full of surprises (like Primordia getting optioned for a cinematic adaptation). All I know is, I’m very happy with the story and characters of these two games, their alien worlds, and their theme of what it means to human. If nothing more comes of them, it will be enough.

Our next game, Fallen Gods is in the polishing phase now. We’re taking our time with it—over 10 years of development, a long incubation even for Wormwood Studios!—because we want to make sure it’s the game our players deserve. But hopefully 2024 will be the year of its release.
Until the next milestone, adieu!

- Mark Y.
