Reus 2 - AbbeyAdriaan
Hello giants,

You might have looked at Reus 2 and thought: "What is the difference with the original Reus?" With Reus 2 releasing within weeks, it's a good moment to compare it with the original and highlight the many improvements we made!

In short:
Reus 2
Reus
Game moves with your actions
timer and real-time pressure
Simple grid on the planet
Single-line gameplay
Biome and Tag symbiosis
named Symbiosis
Biome Drafts
Confusing leveling scheme
Peaceful Experience
very annoying humans
6 Biomes, 250+ unique Biotica
4+ Biomes, 100+ Biotica
Human Eras
Nothing
And more!

1. Play at your pace
The first thing you'll notice is the pace of the game. Instead of having to worry about each second, Eon (representing time) only moves forward when you place Biotica (e.g. Plants, Animals, Minerals). Your goal is not to reach your goals within a timespan but with a set number of Eon. Having more cities on your planet will give you a higher Eon limit and more actions.

This means no more need to press the space bar to pause the game with each action or be afraid to take a break. Don't worry about replacing things either: Replacement only costs 1/5 of the actions that a new placement costs.

This makes the game adapt to your speed of play: You're the master of the universe and time after all!

2. Grid on the Planet
Another immediately noticeable change is the grid on the planet. Instead of playing on a single line, there is a small hex grid. This means that most slots will have 4 neighbors instead of only 2, vastly increasing your options and strategies.

There are even ways to expand the grid. Place a Mountain to add three slots on top, or expand the planet to have more room for your Biotica.

3. Biome & Tag Symbioses
The original Reus had symbioses based on names, for example: "next to a Chicken." Reus 2 is very different; instead, it uses tags like "bird" or "tree". This gives you much more freedom to create your ecosystem.

Another addition is the concept of Biome-wide Symbioses. These will trigger on Biotica as long as they are in the same Desert, Forest, or other Biome. There have never been so many options and combos to make!

4. Biotica Drafts
Instead of having to memorize an arcane web where errors would mean restarts, Biotica now unlock through drafts. You will earn these drafts by helping humans as usual. But then you can use them to unlock a set of Biotica for one specific Biome. Your options will be semi-random. You can use rerolls however to search for that Tiger you want so badly.

This way, no game will be the same, but it will be much easier to make decisions on what you want next! An added benefit is that all combinations of Biotica are now also possible!

5. A peaceful Experience
War and giant hunting were never a fan favorite of Reus players, even though the fantasy is cool. We decided to remove these features from Reus 2 altogether until we know how to add them in a way that fits well with the rest of the game. This needs a lot more work, or else we will just end up with the same nuisances as in the original.

Enjoy your peaceful time on your planets!

6. Much more content
We more than doubled the content for Reus 2! I'm not going to spoil all there is to find, just know there are unlimited possibilities and configurations on how to create your perfect planet!

7. Human Eras
Instead of playing games of 30 minutes to 2 hours, in Reus 2 you will go from Era to era. There are up to 3 Eras per planet. Every Era has its own vibe and goals. Will you help humans go to space, or will you support their revolution? Do well on the goals and you'll be rewarded with a little happening!

Your achievements will also be tied to which Eras you've completed. Try to get 3 stars on all of them and see all that humanity has to offer!

And we have much more! Planets in space, unique mechanics per biome, characters, and more improvements! We hope you will find all the content and mechanics the game has to offer, and enjoy your time to create a universe full of life!

We can't wait to see what you make!

Super Animal Royale - Michael | Pixile

Hey Super Animals, we have some exciting news: we’ve made the decision to return to self-publishing Super Animal Royale on all platforms! Pixile began this journey fully independent when we released the game in Early Access on Steam in 2018, and we’ve now returned to full independence.

The team has grown and learned so much over the past six years, including adding multiple community members to the team to expand our capabilities in customer support, marketing, design, and development. So while we’re still a small indie studio of 16 people (6 of which are full-time), we’re confident that bringing everything back in-house is the best path forward for the game. And we couldn’t be more excited about the next big chapter we’re about to embark on with all of you! We’re also continuing to slowly expand the team, so if you or someone you know is super talented in the VFX department, be sure to direct them to our latest job posting right here (and keep an eye out for more job postings in the future).

If all goes according to plan, you shouldn’t notice much change aside from seeing Pixile’s name as Publisher in addition to Developer on store pages in the coming weeks, but if there’s any bumps in the road as we take on release management on all platforms for new updates, you can get support directly from us in SAR’s Discord server or by emailing us at contact@pixilestudios.com.

Outside of managing the return to self-publishing behind the scenes, our team has also been heads-down, working on the next chapter of Super Animal Royale. We know many of you are super eager for news on what’s coming next (we hear you!). There would usually be a new season right around now, but we’ve been focused on something far bigger. In fact, it’s the biggest project we’ve taken on since building the first full version of the game in Early Access.

We’ve been hinting at this for quite a while now, including in the roadmaps we published in our Season 9 and Season 10 patch notes, and we’re still not quite ready to share the details yet (sorry!), but we promise you won’t have to wait too much longer for your first peek at it! It’s an all-hands-on-deck project for our small team, and we know it’ll be worth the wait. Rest assured that our regular update cycles, including new episodes of Super Animal Royale Tonight, will return better than ever when the next chapter of SAR launches.

Make sure you’re watching our socials (especially YouTube) for when our first big announcement trailer drops, and in the meantime we hope you’ll join us all on the island to enjoy the final months of the current game before it evolves! We have a few more final surprises up our sleeves before the big reveal too, so pay attention to all our social channels for those as well.

We also wanted to take a moment to express how proud we are of how far the game has come since it entered Early Access in December 2018. In six years, we’ve left Early Access, launched on all consoles with cross-play, reached over 11 million players, made two seasons of our web series Super Animal Royale Tonight, and packed the game with more content than we could have imagined when we began. But we’ve had an even bigger vision in the works for a long time, and we’re finally taking steps to make it a reality.

It’s hard to avoid sounding like a broken record with sentiments like this, but this game genuinely wouldn’t be possible without all of you playing it and pouring your endless passion and love into it. You’re what motivates us every day to keep expanding this crazy hamster ball, banan, and animal filled world that is so special to so many of us. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for supporting us in this journey, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on next.

See you all on the island, Super Animals!

Among Us - Dors
Helloooooo Crewmates,

Our roadmap for 2024 is here!

Yes... I know... half the year has almost gone by. I will accept my punishment of ejection on their behalf (but I'll still cry about it).

Are you wondering why it took so long to share? It's a good question. Our team was redefining our process for updates and how we organize them, finding out what matters most *looks at that player survey from a couple months ago*, and taking a well deserved nap, etc..

Roadmap 2024 - Our Plans

New Roles
Since we introduced the Engineer, Scientist, Guardian Angel, and Shapeshifter back in 2021, new roles has been one of the highest requested additions to the game - and for good reason! Roles introduced a new way to betray and bewilder Crewmates, and more ways to gather evidence against the Impostors.

Soon we'll introduce more brand new roles each with their own little quirk that make for some very interesting lobbies. I can't guarantee they'll help you avoid an untimely ejection but who knows... it's all about how you play!

Better Lobby Filtering
We're improving how you find lobbies through a more refined set of search settings.

Make the Lobby Settings Pretty
Our looooooooong list of settings is getting a facelift. Say hello to snappy menus so you can easily see all the settings you can change as a host, and have a quick view of the important ones as you join lobbies.

Cosmetics and Collabs
Our true calling - Bean fashion. We're cooking up more ways for you to slay while you slay. 💅

Y'all know how we get down with the cute, goofy, and chaotic collabs with other studios. We're rolling the dice and hoping to continue blowing your minds this year. No one is safe. (sorry Red)

Quality of Life
Along with the lobby settings and filtering mentioned above, we're sprucing up other items that will make your ears (do Crewmates even have ears?) perk up. We're cooking up other changes too - music for the lobbies (a Puffballs United original of course), Crewmate chatter popping at the top of the screen, and more.

More +
This is where I'm allowed to talk about [REDACTED]. Can't say more than that 'cause we like surprising you!

Wooooooo, that's a lot of stuff! The team is hard at work checking notes and prepping their tasks to make these plans a reality, so don't expect all of these to be completed in the order shown above.

We're excited and can't wait to get these changes into your lovely, non-Impostor-knife-wielding hands.

Off to decipher my part of the roadmap,

Dors

MOONSHIRE - Challacade
It's been awhile since the last Steam update! The game is coming along nicely, and after many major updates, I felt like it earned a version bump to 0.3.0! This update has a major focus on overall presentation (graphics and visual improvements), level layouts, resource collection, and tutorials. Here's a full list of everything that's changed since last time:

  • Complete world layout overhaul! The game is more linear to start off, providing much better tutorials for dodging and healing. The town and surrounding areas have all been redone. The cave is now located after the tutorials are finished, connecting the town to the ruins. The flower worm boss is now treated as a 'final boss' for the demo, requiring all other content to be completed before you can fight it. Overall, the overall progression of the game makes a lot more sense!

  • No more boring coins… instead, you'll find resources all around the game! These are meant to be quick and easy to pick up - seeds fall from trees, exploding rocks reveal some ore, chests contain gold, and water sources have plenty of fish! Each of these resources have their own function, and each spawn point operates on a 10 minute timer, meaning it's always beneficial to go back through previously visited areas.

  • The newly designed cave now features an updated entry into the fight with Eyeris, as well as some improvements to the fight itself. After the fight, you'll be introduced to a few new mechanics involving the seeds, as well as the first climbable wall.

  • There are now a bunch of interactable props, including boxes, pots, shelves, logs, and barrels, which burst apart when you hit them with an attack!

  • Ambience (environmental) sounds, like wind and rain, are now added to the overall mix and can be adjusted in the settings menu.

  • More movement in the environment, especially the animated trees!

  • The torch has been reworked to longer use ammo. Instead, it visually indicates when it's able to shoot fire, which reforms after a cooldown.

  • Several new NPCs, and TONS of bugfixes!
