Hey everybody!

We want to quickly follow up on some of your feedback from the launch of the game into Early Access.

First of all, a big thanks to everyone who has picked up the game and played so far. Since launch, we’ve had over 200,000 players and we’re humbled by the reception. We’re proud of what we have done with Rotwood and we’re thrilled so many of you are enjoying the game and those of you who are on the fence are letting us know.

We’ve gone through your feedback for Discord, forums, reviews and submitted F8 feedback. We’ve been working on this since immediately after launch, but we want to keep you updated on what we’re doing.

This is not a full list of the feedback we are addressing. There are several things we’d like to address in the long term but for now, we are only going to discuss what we are immediately focused on. Everything mentioned here has either already gone in or is imminent unless noted otherwise.

Difficulty and Progression
Rotwood is designed to be a challenging game. While many players are enjoying the balance as it is now, we recognize that there are points in the game that can feel frustrating. We are working hard to smooth out the experience for all players, while still providing the challenge this game is designed to bring.

We’ve pushed an update that will provide more information about the intended difficulty of a hunt compared to the current gear that you have equipped. We believe that exposing more information about the intended progression will allow players to better understand the challenges they can take on and make more informed choices on which hunt to take on next.

We’ve also made some balance changes and have a few more coming that smooth out the early game a bit more. Certain actions by enemies are being moved up to higher frenzy levels.

For players that enjoy these mechanics, don’t worry. We’re also working on even higher Frenzy levels and challenges that will come in the future as well.

There are also aspects of the game being roguelite that players have expressed could be better. While we no longer think of Rotwood as strictly a roguelite, we do have many shared elements, and are working on making this better. Specifically, we are working on more interesting early and late game powers. Some of these will come soon, and others will be available in future, larger updates.

Playing Solo
Rotwood is extremely fun with your friends, but should still be very rewarding playing solo.

We’ve noticed that some players were having more trouble than we expected while playing alone, and some of our most recent balance changes were made to address that, such as reducing the healing capacity of the Gourdo and recent Frenzy tuning and hitstun changes.

We will be continuing to watch feedback around solo play, and will continue to make tweaks to improve this experience.

Mouse Aiming
We have seen players who are having difficulty with mouse aiming in the game. Mouse aiming determines where your character is pointing while using the mouse. We have seen that some players are having difficulty with learning the controls on mouse and keyboard because mouse aiming moves their character direction when they aren’t expecting it. Mouse aiming increases precision and provides players with quicker and smoother control. However, it is harder to master and may take some practice.

While we still recommend mouse aiming as the default way to play, we've added messaging that allows players to turn it off, in the case that they find mouse aiming unintuitive. Players can always experiment with either control scheme via the Options.

Matchmaking
Our intention is to provide players with the ability to control their lobbies so that they can choose specific groups of like-minded players they would like to play with.

These are permanent groups. Once you enter a group, you can be matched randomly with anybody in that group.

For example.
Players from Brazil can start a Brazil lobby through Steam groups
People who want to focus on the toughest challenges.
Players that love Fallout
Your old WoW guild

We expect player-created groups to be the best way to play the game however we are making a public lobby available for everybody that owns the game. This is a default public group, with no moderation that anybody can play.

Selecting the Rotwood Public group will match you with our best match that we can find, first by region and then with a game that is of a similar progression level as you. This will be available by default and you will be able to instantly find somebody to play with without having to seek out new curated player groups.

Loot
Some players have let us know that it is challenging to find the loot they are looking for, and even after repeated attempts are unable to obtain enough loot to upgrade their equipment.

We are actively reviewing this. We’ll post more details as we roll out those changes.

Crashes / Performance / Bug Fixes
We have already put out a few updates to address the most immediate technical issues that we have found and we will continue to do so until we’re ready to continue work on the next content update.

We have added a performance profiler in the game for players who are having exceptional performance issues to send us more detailed reports on their system so we can better diagnose what may be causing the problem.

We will continue improving and fixing these issues as we move forward.

- Made it easier for players to find important NPCs

This is not a complete list. We have a lot that we’re looking at going forward, when we finish off focusing on the immediate feedback we mentioned above we will let you know what we’re up to next.

This is another update to the demo version of the game.

New content:

- more than 50 components have been added to the game that can be used to craft and improve equipment
- about 10 new talismans have been added to the game
- more than 10 new crafting recipes have been added to the game
- an indicator has been added to the bottom panel that shows the visibility status of objects on the ground by rarity

In the video below, I show how the indicator for displaying items by rarity works, how you can enhance equipment with components, how to craft an item according to a recipe, and also how to use components to unlock special Form skills.



Other improvements:

- the maximum level of enemies has been increased. They now become stronger up to hero level 40
- fixed a bug when arrows flew through a damaged wall
- increased the amount of HP received from health and energy cans
- requirements for all skills have been reduced
- increased the amount of experience gained from notes
- improved floor tile material
- other minor improvements

Hazeron Starship - Haxus
Missiles
Missiles don't seem to hit their targets very often, if ever.

Fixed numerous issues with guided missiles and other projectiles.

Ordnance Window
Ordnance window doesn't work correctly on Gulliver when I access a weapon station from a captain's chair.

Fixed. This would have also been a problem at a weapon station when trying to operate a different weapon system than the default system for that station.

Sensor Lock Update Bug
Sensor lock reticle range does not update if I lock on to a target then switch to the captain's chair.

Fixed.

Sensor Lock Linger
Sensor lock reticle remains in space after destroying a target, when there are no other targets to lock onto. It just seems to drift away.

Fixed.

Salvage Order
Salvage order needs to be easier to issue instead of being way down the list of orders. I find myself frantically trying to issue the salvage order before the TEUs drift away.

Salvage order is now the first order on the list.

Pirates
Pirates got some minor improvements as a result of many battles with them.




OneBit Adventure - SpaceKryptonite
The time has come and the dreams are coming to life in OneBit Adventure! This update is currently rolling out to all platforms and is packed with many fulfilled suggestions made by the community as well as introducing Necromancer’s 2nd tier profession, Puppeteer! Welcome the 5 new dungeon entrances, 100 new Overworld chunks, Class-based leaderboards, Xp increase, quality of life improvements, and so much more! If you have read the previous post, this will be similar, but more finalized for what you can expect with this update and moving forward.

Necromancer’s New Profession – Puppeteer


Master of control with an army of undead ready to battle and chain reaction potential. Synergy between puppet types as well as being able to use skillpoints to maximize their potential. This profession will prove useful in overwhelming your foes and protecting the ones you summon to do the fighting for you. Transcended form has major changes allowing you to utilize your Extended Reach to deal damage from a far.

Extended Reach Skill


This skill allows you to deal damage in a 3×2 area when using mana to attack and can be used while transcended! In certain cases, you can attack enemies over certain obstacles as long as the direction you are going is not blocked. I’ve reworked transcend so the Soul Survivor profession can now use Magic Range+ while transcended!

New 100 Overworld Chunks


I can’t stress enough of how much of a huge milestone this is. To put this into perspective, Overworld has 50 chunks, but only 30 are used after reaching a low step threshold. Repetition is one of the major flaws for OneBit and 100 new chunks will help fix that tremendously. I’ve also made chunks spawn more uniquely by preventing chunks to repeat by having the level generator go through 50% of the maps before repeating. New biomes will be coming in the next major update which will help create zones in the Overworld map so you can expect more variety and different enemies to appear in those zones.

More Spellcasting Improvements


You can now spam to your hearts content as the ability to re-cast a skin is now possible! This works for any spellcast that uses mana which includes Necromancer’s Beyond the Grave. The sound queue for activation will be muted upon re-casting and you can view how much mana you have on that screen!


5 New Dungeon Entrances


The world is becoming more alive with each new entrance! Caves, Ruins, Castle, Underworld, and Depths of the Sea have all gotten a touch up and will be a new standard for dungeons in general.

Customize Your Skill UI


A huge quality of life feature is the power to move your skills UI to wherever you want. You can make them big or small, invisible, align them, etc. As of now, the game saves portrait and landscape layout separately so you can cross sync and have 2 different layouts between Steam and Mobile.

New Class-Based Leaderboards – No Rewards At This Time


I have decided to hold back on giving rewards for class-based rankings in favor of introducing more unique rewards in the near future. Stay tuned, but for now, you can rank based off your class and see how much steps others are making in those categories.

New Prestige Token


Some love resetting characters to grind back to 100 and others want to grind their character only once. Prestige Tokens are here to provide that option in the premium shop with choices of 1, 3, or 5 tokens and only works for Classic characters. These tokens will only be visible in the Prestige screen and the premium shop. You don’t need a token to prestige. Once you reach level 100, you can prestige for free or with the token to prevent resetting the character.

More Xp and Less Grind for Level 70-100
I can now say the grind isn’t as much of a brick wall than it was before. Normal enemies now give 100% more scaling xp making the level up process in later stages a whole lot better.

Final Thoughts
Thank you for your support and feedback. The 100 new chunks have been received very well in terms of reducing repetition throughout the game. I look forward to the many joys that this update will provide and stay tuned for the next major update as Pyromancer’s 2nd tier profession will be priority and much more professions throughout the year.
