🎨 New unit art 🎨 Some of you may have already noticed that 2 weeks ago the units received a major graphical overhaul. Over time new skins and colours will be added to the game and they will be unlockable in various ways! I know that a lot of you play on simple graphics mode and similar customisation features will also be supported there in time as well.
🔥 Full Animations! 🔥 The huge change released today are new animations (and additional sounds) for basically every effect in the game!
Previously only a small amount of effects had any visualisation at all, everything kind of just happened invisibly and it was very difficult to understand what was happening in the game. Now each effect is clearly visualised: what it does, where it came from, where it is going and when it happened.
Even veterans of the game will find this change incredibly helpful, I myself have been surprised many times how certain mechanics were working behind the scenes. Also: it’s more fun to see things move around!
At this point the limit of what can be achieved graphically with the game has been reached and there is no future graphics work planned. There will be improvements here and there, especially to the UI, but from here on the main focus is gameplay! With the animation system done this opens a lot of doors for effects that would have been impossible to have before!
📅 Timeline 📅 I also think we’re long overdue on a timeline of the future of the game. They are not in a specific order but they are all planned for the near future.

Goal to participate in various indie game festivals this year to build larger community.

GRAIL’s surveillance has found veins across X-Isle practically teeming with Wonderium. Better yet? There’s not a single Disciple in sight! Mine all the Wonderium you can carry in Wonder Rush, a new limited-time PVP Duo Mode available from now until April 28. Rush in and get your share of the haul!
Read on to find out more about Twitch Drops, a new Disciple threat, three newly-unearthed Artifacts, and this week’s Shop Spotlight.
Limited Time Mode: Wonder Rush (April 18–28)
Availability: Daily from 19:00 CEST / 10:00 PDT until 02:00 CEST / 17:00 PDT
Leave no vein untapped in a rush to mine Nuggets and Motherlodes of Wonderium. Trust your Traverser to ping nearby veins, and bash away to extract X-Isle’s precious minerals and collect points ‘til your bags are full.Keep your Duo partner close, but your loot even closer. Other teams are out for the spoils, and it’s just as fair to take what’s mined. You’ll lose all the Wonderium you’re carrying if knocked down, but the same goes for your opponents. With unlimited respawns at random points in effect across the island, and stashes containing only rare weaponry, the risk looks tempting!
The first team to 500 Wonderium will trigger the end-of-match countdown, and whoever nabs the top spot by the end of the match will be crowned the victors. Chat with GE-0 back at the Riftwake to see what deals he’s got for your hard-earned spoils. You’ll also find costs of Gear and Artifact upgrades have eased up a little!
Twitch Drops: Watch the Rush (April 18–28)

Disciples Strike Back
A never-before-seen tribe of Fire Disciples has emerged from the magmatic underbelly of X-Isle, joining the fray with fire-touched fury against whoever dares challenge the reptilian reign of their horde!
Found in Treasure Hunt and Lone Hunter modes, have they emerged to fight GRAIL? Or have rumblings of a new threat put the Disciples on edge? They’re probably just upset they’re losing out on all that Wonderium.
New Artifacts for Your Loadout
GRAIL has reported the discovery of new Artifacts on X-Isle. Good luck finding these beauties out there—their abilities can give Renegades quite the edge!
Combusti-Core (Hunt) - Somewhat reminiscent of the modern hand grenade, this partially broken Artifact is filled with an exotic concoction that greatly amplifies nearby explosions. The item’s exact mode of explosive combustion still causes heated debate among GRAIL scientists. Be very careful when handling this volatile Artifact, Renegade.
Location: Treasury & Caravan
Shellblazer (Survival) - A testament to the close connection between the islanders and the oceans nearby. As an effigy, the relationship between the turtle’s shell and the object’s shield-powering properties is obvious. The additional “cuteness” makes the Artifact transcend from simple ornament to a must-have collector’s item.
Location: Treasury & Caravan
Fallback Frog (Utility) - This particular relic is lovingly modeled after an indigenous animal, likely in an effort to harness the creature’s innate “being” in magical form. In this Artifact’s particularly charming case, the frog’s dexterous ability is playfully channeled through the leap-and-tumble action.

It’s time for the first big content patch for Quilts and Cats of Calico. We all know it’s a cozy, relaxing game, right? The purring cats, vibrant colors and soothing music can be quite calming. On the other hand, though, we know it can be a challenge, especially when the player whose turn was right before you takes the yellow flower tile which was perfect for you and you oh so wanted and oh my why did they have to ruin my perfect quilt?!
Weekly Challenges are here
Okay, let’s calm down. Today, we want to introduce a new kind of a challenge to the game, for those who like competing in rankings and perfecting their scores on a preset board. In these weekly contests, you’ll be aiming to become (one of) the best scoring quilters and if you manage to do so, your nickname - along with your score - will be visible to players all over the world!
So how do the challenges work? Each week, a system designed for this specific purrpose (sorry, we had to) is going to draw from a bag of modes, AI difficulties, goals and rules to create an exciting premade game for everyone. Next - the puzzly fun begins! You’ll be able to play the challenge however many times you want to get that fluffy high score. Since there’s no randomness, you’ll be able to get a better score with each of your attempts. At the end of the week and for the entirety of the duration of the next challenge, 6 players with the highest scores will be put on the ranking board for all other quilters to see.
The first challenge is already available, so pounce right on in!
Limited Rules, QoL changes & patch notes
But that’s not all we’ve prepared for today. Besides the Challenge Mode, there are also a few quality of life changes we’ve made. Most of these relate to how Limited Rules are displayed during the games. Before, it could’ve been hard for players to access the information, so we’ve made it a bit easier. Here’s the rundown:
We’ve added an animation showing hexes you won’t be able to place tiles on, when playing using some of the limited rules
During gameplay, limited rules are now visible in a separate window you can access at any time
And finally, here’s the list of other changes that went live with this update:
Added a pop-up informing of campaign progress loss when starting new campaign run
Added a contact field to the in-game report system
Some minor bug fixes
Some minor visual UI and VFX fixes
So, if you think you’ve got what it takes to become one of the quiltest cat-lovers there is, we invite you to join in on the Weekly Challenge fun! Also, feel free to join our Discord server to chat about your strategies, high scores and more, cats included. If you feel like there’s not enough adorable cat pictures in your life, the Discord server is also the place for you.
We hope you enjoy this new addition to the game and we can’t wait to see you on the ranking board!
