It’s official! Earlier this week, we released our latest trailer for Wizard of Legend 2 during the iii-Initiative Showcase, and we’re so excited to finally be sharing more about the game with you after revealing it way back in May of last year. We felt that this would be a great time to kick off a dev log series leading up to launch, so that everyone in the community can learn more about what we’re conjuring up behind the scenes, and gain some insights from the development team here at Dead Mage.
As a team, we quickly fell in love with the fast-paced combat of the first game. We were eager to take on the challenge of bringing this sequel to life, while also ensuring Wizard of Legend’s trademark fluidity remains intact. We knew the responsive controls and quick movement that players have become so familiar with would be of the utmost importance. This motivated the team to find the perfect balance between maintaining and enhancing the gameplay, variety of Arcana, and controls for Wizard of Legend 2.
One of the first challenges we encountered was figuring out how to keep things fast, yet under control, considering the vast variety of Arcana available to players. This hurdle was initially a tough one for the team, and Senior Game Designer Javid Najibzadeh shared a few of his thoughts on how we approached it:
“We realized that we did need to make the animations much more snappy, making the anticipation animations much shorter - down to even a couple of frames at some points. The entire process of casting an Arcana needed to be faster in order to match the first game’s pace.”
Speaking of Arcana, we’ve put in extra time and effort to make sure every spell has a unique feel, to make the gameplay more immersive. To do this, we ensured each one of the over 70 different Arcana have distinct abilities, controls, and nuances that will affect gameplay. This is still an ongoing process that we will continue to revise and work on as the game’s development progresses toward launch.
One interesting decision we’ve made was to implement a skill that lets players double dash, but only over pits. Javid explains,
“We thought it might be a good idea to give players an extra chance of avoiding pits as it sometimes was too grim to fall into pits when you wanted to avoid being hit… At some point we removed it and every tester went almost mad.”
This led to us reworking the skill to become a permanent progression upgrade, which ended up getting a positive response during our internal playtests.
However, after further playtesting, we felt the cooldown and other restrictions of dash Arcana made them less predictable, which affected the game’s pacing in a negative way. Due to this, we decided to replace dash Arcana with Relics that grant the same powers. If you’ve never played Wizard of Legend before, Relics are returning items in Wizard of Legend 2 that you can acquire as you progress through the Trials. These items will alter and enhance your abilities, but be careful what you decide to pick up! Some Relics may carry negative effects in addition to their benefits.
These Relics will appeal to players who loved the dash Arcana from the first game while opening up opportunities for interesting builds.
We are excited to reveal even more about Wizard of Legend 2 in the coming weeks, and we’re grateful for all of you who have been sharing your own excitement and interest with us on social media, as well as in our Discord server. So brace yourselves and get ready to engage in fast-paced combat with unique Arcana, encounter familiar and new NPCs, and claim the coveted title of Wizard of Legend!
We’ll see you next month, where we’ll be taking a closer look at Arcana design! If there are topics you’d like to see us explore in future dev logs, be sure to let us know by sharing your suggestions with us in Discord.

There is nothing more common in the land of Ameryka than opportunities. You, as a barn finder, made your wealth by turning someone else's trash into gold and treasure. You dived through trash cans, old barns, old movie studios or even a moon base (spoilers) and flipped whatever you found there into hard earned cash. But what if you want to look for opportunities outside the life of a pawnshop owner? There are many opportunities to do so, and we are working and them as we speak. And in each of them you will be able to see traces of our previous work. And as in title - it’s all connected 🙂
Let me show you some of the examples:
In Farm Simulator you will have the opportunity to make contracts with various client bases. From time to time some well known character will order a stock of what would seem like a base for a moonshine. Who is this handsome man? I think you know 🙂
Not mentioning the branding of the anti weed specific. We know for sure - it should work!
And when you run off the farm supplies, where will you get the best delivery? No other place than a Superstore! Call them and make an order delivered straight to your mailbox! (Contractors are still work in progress, so don’t mind the rest of them).
But that also works the other way around! When you want the most fresh and perfect vegetables and farm products, you can always order them from William’s Farm and they will be delivered to your store with a proper logo on it. Isn’t that cool?
And will Uncle Billy and the gang visit Superstore? Who knows? They have to buy toilet paper somewhere 🙂
If you want to see what other opportunities and cross references you can find in our games don't hesitate to add Farm Simulator and Superstore to your wishlist to be in the loop!
And if you haven't check the Barn Finders yet you can buy a base game with a 45 % discount, so don’t hesitate to jump into the Land of Ameryka - opportunities await!

Fog hung thick against the night, the clean mountain air corrupted by the putrid scent of sulfur. Two men stood as still as statues, tucked between trunks and branches; they ignored the sharp, leafless twigs scratching their skin. Snow still dappled the ground where winter held tight to the changing of seasons, the packed earth cold and hard beneath their feet. Approaching footsteps from the darkness seemed to echo, heavy thudding heels that snapped the silence from its stupor and mingled with the occasional crunch of wilting frost. “He’s close,” the stranger whispered, his breath becoming white smoke.
The footsteps grew louder, as did the sickly smell of sulfur. Gudge wrinkled his nose and blinked an errant tear from his eyes. He held his arms before him, one fist tightly gripping the other. Stop shaking, you fool, he told himself firmly. This is what you wanted, isn’t it? Gudge’s teeth began chattering as the first shadowy glimpse of their visitor crested the hill. “Is that…” Gudge choked on the words, his misted breath sputtering to a stop. “Yes,” the stranger replied softly, “that is He. The Great Prince Himself.” Slowly, carefully, the man bent down and prostrated himself against the frosty ground. “Orobas.” Gudge mumbled to no one, his eyes wide with awe and fear in equal measure.
The History of Orobas
Orobas plays a pivotal role in The Bornless, impacting both the game's narrative and its multiplayer dynamics. During the earliest alpha playtests, Orobas was introduced as a formidable NPC demon that instilled fear in players' hearts. At that time the game featured an "Orobas Game Mode". This mode was a unique take on battle royale, featuring 8 players in a fight to the death. Players could invoke Orobas at specific shrine locations on the map in exchange for incense, turning him into an ally who would aggressively pursue and attack nearby players. Orobas also aided in locating and combating enemies in the dark, fog-enshrouded town of Farmouth. However, allying with Orobas was a double-edged sword: aggression towards him, or a rival team offering more incense could turn him against you. This introduced a strategic element of managing incense supplies. Players often faced the dilemma of spending their precious incense on weapons with Haag, a merchant demon within The Bornless universe, or securing Orobas's support.
What Changed?
Orobas's role meant his influence needed careful balancing to ensure fun gameplay. Feedback from players highlighted that Orobas was overpoweringly strong, making games too dependent on his support. The intention was to have Orobas offer a fun advantage, but not to the extent of overshadowing player skill as the primary factor for winning.
Thus, we rebalanced Orobas, adding anti-camping mechanics and removing his map-wide teleportation ability among many other nerfs and buffs. This led to a split in player experiences: hardcore players learned to dodge and kill Orobas entirely, while casual players still struggled against him. Amid this, the community expressed a strong desire to play as demons, drawn by the allure of embodying The Great Prince of Hell.
The Future of Orobas
And so, player-controlled demons came to life in The Bornless. This began with Botis, a colossal snake demon, in the Titan Game Mode. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with players enjoying the new dynamic. Alongside this, feedback on weapons, character models, gunplay, and movement laid the foundation for our main game mode, The Ritual Game Mode. In the next playtest, players will experience this mode for the first time, showcasing an expanded, improved, and optimized version of the original Orobas Game Mode. However, this time Orobas will not be an easily ignored NPC.
Whether you're in control or it's another player at the helm, Orobas will become a daunting presence. If you're aiming to stay alive and make off with your hard-earned loot once The Bornless Ritual has been unleashed, there's only one thing left to do... Run as fast as you can.
Thank you for Staying Unholy!
- The Bornless Team 🖤
