We have received reports of some aspiring cooks wanting to start their culinary adventure while using Valve Index VR, but not being able to. We've cooked up a quick hotfix for this and hope to see you back in the kitchen soon!
Hey everyone, just wanna start this announcement by giving a big thank you to everyone who has played, wishlisted, and overall supported DESCENT!
This game has been in the works for years now as the basis of my independent game developing journey and seeing so many people try it out means a lot to me.
Now onto the update:
Reworked the prologue level to make it in line with the rest of the levels, made it longer and more challenging.
Added 1-2 to the game, may be rough around the edges but it will be updated.
Some minor changes
Let me know what you think! I'm always wanting feedback for every aspect of the game so feel free to reach out to me through things like Twitter and Discord, enjoy!
- 'Boots of Speed': Can now have all rarities. Grant 75-100% of max speed and additionally add +1 DEX on level up. - 'Phoenix Feather' ['Death' mode only]: Can now have all rarities. Additionally grants +15-30% fire damage. - Changed base speed on 'Bulwark' from 0 to 2 - Increased 'Bloodseeker' damage by 50%
*Bug Fixes*
- Fixed a bug where where lifesteal would not always apply for 'Bloodseeker'
This is a small Spring-Sale update that mostly rebalances and improves some existing content, including our DLC Guns & Cakes. We’re currently super busy working on our next game, an action roguelite called Monster Run (where you’re a giant monster cat fighting against armies of humans), but we aren’t done with Artist Life Simulator yet. Have a merry spring and a happy new approaching summer!
Increased painting value of ideas and some memories
Increased painting time penalty of some crimson conditions (like frustration)
Updated painting value of some generic memories
Changed Temptations to have more interesting effects
Opportunities to buy guns in Cakes & Guns DLC last longer before vanishing
While I'm still busy working on 30 things at once, today I'd like to take a moment to highlight one of the new characters I've been working on.
Boat On Wheels: "Big Tuna"
Years of Evolution have passed until Boats developed wheels to let them roam the lands and leave the waters, mirroring the process of man. Who knows when they will develop wings and take to the skies?
A fugitive caught for his aquatic crimes, a Big Shark in a Big Boat, Big Tuna is a character that starts out with somewhat mediocre stats, but comes with a super powerful and flexible special: The Harpoon Gun. Automatically aiming at targets in front of you at the cost of some HP, the Harpoon Gun shoots out a nimble Harpoon, homing onto the target vehicle.
Upon contact, the Harpoon will get stuck on them. Hold the SPECIAL button down, and you'll not only slow down the vehicle you've pinned, but you'll also rapidly pull yourself towards it! Release the SPECIAL button, and you'll break the connection - pulling the vehicle you've hit backwards, and you rapidly forward, letting Big Tuna deal massive ramming damage if close to someone, or simply letting you quickly move forwards.
This special can be used in a ton of ways:
You can tap fire, skipping the pull-phase and immediately going for a damaging ram; Speed, at the cost of not building momentum.
You can hold, then release, letting you build up some devastating speed and momentum to take the lead and deal even more damage on release.
Or you can simply hold it down for a minute and let yourself be pulled forwards when you are too lazy to drive yourself. Enemies are too fast, and you don't have enough HP to boost? Don't sweat it, let them do the work for you.
This character has been a ton of fun to make and playtest. Looking forward to what people will be able to do with it once the game hits the shelves!
Work on the nebulous "Character Upgrade Tree"
The plan is for each of the Characters to have 8 character specific upgrades to them. The Demo currently only features the first 2 of each of the 4. These upgrades are intended to scale with the game, so the first 2 are on the weaker end, the next 2 can be found in mid-game, and the last 2 are up for grabs towards the end. Think Ultra Mutations from Nuclear Throne except a bit more granular.
Since I do want each of them to be pretty impactful and meaningful, I've been going back and forth on some designs. I'll hopefully be able to make a Post about those, soon! For now, I offer you this very strange looking upgrade, I wonder who it's for, really.
---------------------------------- And that's it. Again - shorter than usual, but that's the point! I'd like to move away from the "Kinda rare but massive" Devlogs to the "decently frequent but smol" Devlogs. Hopefully this has been an interesting read.

Today, we're reaching out to personally deliver you important but sad news. Our project is closing.
Just like you, we've been eagerly awaiting the moment when we'd be able to participate in crazy battles as well as expecting new heroes, maps, and modes, and, of course, feeling your love and support with all our hearts. But the circumstances have changed our plans, and we will have to end the project's support and development.
We've been weighing the pros and cons for a long while, and we've come to this difficult decision. We'd like to continue bringing you joy with good and exciting projects. And even though MiniLife: Tournament definitely meets those criteria, unfortunately, it didn't live up to our expectations.
That is why the project will be closed and deleted from Steam on May 20, 2024.
Whenever you joined us — on the day of the game's announcement or a minute ago — we thank you for it! You've become a part of our small... mini-story. And we hope that you'll have fond memories of the time you've spent in MiniLife.

That's All
It's by far our biggest update so far. Since we added a lot of content, let us know how you feel about the balance on the Steam Forums or on Discord. The next update (Update 3) will focus on adding more content rather than new systems. We're working hard on Update 4 in parallel where we'll tackle another big system : The Holt!
We'll keep you up to date on future updates later, it's time to Reach the top of Yggdrasil with Kare now!
