City Game Studio: Your Game Dev Adventure Begins - Binogure

This week, I finished reworking the consoles, and it wasn't easy.
With the help of several Excel files, Desmos and other chart tools, I managed to make console design profitable, but not too profitable. But also that it involves risk, but not too much, and that it suits the level of difficulty. I think I've succeeded, but that remains to be seen.

Interface-wise, things have changed. When you publish your console, you have a specialized magazine that reviews your console and gives you feedback on the choice of components, and the overall quality of the console. You can now make games for your console even before it's published (I've yet to test this out to make sure it works properly).

In terms of game creation, I've added information when you choose a theme to create a game, to help you make the right choices. I've also started to lighten up the mailbox. Now, when you announce a game, there will be no notification, just the hype bar, which will adjust according to player feedback. It's more direct, easier to read, and makes for a lighter mailbox.

In the coming week, I plan to rework the way conventions are announced, to lighten the mailbox once again, and enrich the interface.

- Reworked amount of experience gain a bit, your level should change a little bit when starting the game
- Rebalanced a couple of waves/enemies (Gilbert twin is now harder and the waves leading up to him are also more difficult, same goes for the waves leading up to the final boss)

Greetings, Dwarven Lords!

The development of King of the Dwarves continues. The game is getting shinier every month and we are happy to share the newest changes with you all.

Development Update

Game development is a never-ending cycle of adding new features, and fixing issues that emerge in the process. Other than fixing and optimizing the game, we are currently working on the following core elements of the game:

  • Save System. The player can mine tunnels, gather resources, build different structures, and do many other things. To ensure that all those actions are saved on our end, we are working on a save system that can remember all the actions.
  • Battle mechanics. The player will have to not only take care of the economy but also ensure that the dwarven warriors can defend the settlement against enemies. We are currently implementing the fighting system and the enemies for our proud dwarves to clash against.
  • Animations. Our game had a lot of placeholder animations that were quickly put together to make the first prototype of the game work. Right now, we are adding and improving all the necessary animations for our dwarven units. You will be able to have hundreds (or even thousands, if you manage to please them!) of dwarves in the game, so adding this amount of animated characters is a technical challenge on its own. So a tidbit for our more technical readers: to achieve it, we are using instanced animation rendering, where we store animations in textures and meshes are transformed on the GPU. Write in the comments if you would like to get more technical details in the future.

Hello everyone,

Excited to share some major updates I've made with "Better Than Dead"...

I've been diving deep into a new AI, leveraging UE5's Environmental Query System (EQS) for enemies. This means our adversaries are now more cunning, utilizing the environment for cover and executing smarter maneuvers, fundamentally elevating the tactical depth of combat.

In addition to refining enemy AI, I've introduced a new animation and logic for when enemies reload their pistols. This detail adds another layer of realism and strategy, as you can now anticipate moments when enemies are vulnerable, providing tactical opportunities for attack.
For those curious about the technical side or wanting to see these improvements in action, I'm including a demonstration video.



The protagonist's pistol has undergone a ballistic overhaul. It's a complete rework to ensure shooting feels more realistic and satisfying.
Movement and aiming have been refined to better capture our protagonist's narrative: a girl driven by vengeance, yet devoid of formal combat training. These adjustments bring her movements and aim closer to someone learning as they go, not a seasoned warrior.
This change is subtle but crucial in making every encounter feel more genuine and connected to her story.

I'm also thrilled to introduce our advanced particle and destruction system, a significant enhancement that brings our environment and combat interactions to life. This new system, demonstrated in the video, allows for more dynamic destruction and particle effects.



A new level is in the works - the warehouse.
It's designed to challenge your adaptability, with intricate layouts and environments that play into the hands of our smarter enemies.

Patch-Notes

We have now implemented the VOIP that was in for the Patreon testers before we redid this build from December 13, the original date. This system is now back.
  • To activate the VOIP, press CAPS to talk. To join the radio channel, press 2. Then press U for a menu to configure your settings.
  • I have also changed the bullet ballistic system, making shooting more accurate.
  • I have also changed the size of the bullet trail when you shoot it, so it's not as big anymore.
  • Added a new color to the EOTech magnifier scope
