Intro


Greetings Runner,

It's been a while since the Open Beta Test ended, and the embers of the Presidential War have dimmed temporarily. While it's "peacetime," our Brazen Blaze team has been preparing for the second Open Beta Test!
This Spring, 2024, we plan to implement a bunch of new features that will continue to excite and entertain those who have enjoyed Brazen Blaze so far.
Specific dates and times for the 2nd Open Beta Test will be announced soon. Don't miss out, and stay tuned for more updates!

While you wait for more updates from our team, we'd love to share a part of our development process with you—basically a "How we do stuff here at MyDearest" sort of thing. As a topic that has received many questions, we're delivering a feature on the "Runner Development Secrets."
For the first installment, we will talk about RIOT, the face of Brazen Blaze!


Design

First, let’s talk about Riot’s character design - with a focus on their appearance.

Design Concept


We created Riot with the idea of having them become the face of Brazen Blaze in mind.
Since Riot would be the first Runner everyone would initially encounter through key visuals on storefronts, trailers, and whatnot, we paid meticulous attention to Riot's design to appeal to a broad audience while preserving uniqueness.
As a Runner embodying the theme of Brazen Blaze, "Defy The Rules, Unchain Yourself!", we started the character design with the concept of a "punk rocker desiring change."

Concept Art


Given the "punk rocker" theme, the direction for the costume was relatively easy to decide. When you think of punk rockers, a leather jacket comes to mind! From there, we considered various hairstyles and colorings.
The above are some of the hairstyle proposals we considered. Just a small change in hairstyle can significantly alter the impression.

Riot’s Gauntlet


The above refers to the design documentation for Riot's gauntlets. We incorporated a punk rocker vibe + Brazen Blaze's theme into the design on the forearm part, featuring chains and speakers.
PRO-TIP: All Runner gauntlet designs are crafted to express the individual personalities of each Runner.

Final Design


As you may have seen, the final design turned out as shown above. We believe we achieved designing a Runner with a distinct personality while completely mirroring Brazen Blaze’s theme.


Battle Specs

Next up - let’s discuss Riot’s in-game specifications!

Concept

Riot is like the embodiment of the game's core. It's about the freedom to move around and have fun with melee combat. Plus, it's a great way to get started with the game's mechanics.
Riot is renowned for its high mobility, which makes movement incredibly enjoyable. Its punch packs significant power, giving players the confidence to engage in aggressive melee combat. Moreover, Riot's gun allows players to chip away at opponents from a distance, adding to its versatility.

Overall, Riot strikes an excellent balance between various elements, making it an all-around powerhouse that players can rely on.
Playing as Riot allows players to grasp the game's basic controls, making Riot highly recommended for those new to Brazen Blaze. Its ability to adapt to any situation means that even experienced players can find Riot effective and enjoyable!

Main Weapon: Battle SMG


Riot's primary weapon is the Battle SMG (Submachine Gun), which has a high rapid-fire capability and can be fired with one hand. It can be used to stun enemies that weren't taken down with punches or to create openings for melee attacks.
While it's designed primarily to support close-quarters combat, it's also intuitive enough for users familiar with FPS games to quickly and effectively engage in combat.

Skill: Healing Echo


Riot's skill is a powerful tool that allows the player and allies within a specific range around them to be healed. As Brazen Blaze is a 3v3 team battle game, Riot comes equipped with the ability to heal allies, the most straightforward form of teamwork.
Using Riot is designed to encourage coordination with teammates, making it an essential tool for victory. Additionally, the ability to heal oneself increases survival rates, making Riot a user-friendly option for beginners.

Ultimate: Uprising Beat


During a certain period, Riot's gauntlets receive an enhancement that increases the knockback power of punches and allows for unlimited use of the boost dash ability. This ultimate skill is designed to provide an exciting experience that fully embodies Brazen Blaze's core principle of freedom of movement, making it a thrilling aspect of gameplay.

Finisher


As the "finishing blow that you can't experience in real life," we aimed for a flashy and easily understood appearance while ensuring that both the player executing the move and the player on the receiving end could enjoy the spectacle. We pursued a sense of satisfaction, repeatedly refining the feature until it became the current presentation.
Surely, everyone has wanted to send their enemy flying to the moon at some point in their lives, right?

Total Conflict: Resistance - Thunder


  • The damage system for armored vehicles has been improved, it is now possible to damage the turret, engine (immobilize the vehicle), destroy the gunner, etc. (the damage system will be significantly improved).
  • Added full support for DLSS technology (with the ability to configure it in the game menu).
  • Added new effects when shells hit armor (without dust and dirt).

War Thunder - War Thunder Commander


Ground Vehicles
  • Damage to ammunition modules when directly hit by kinetic or shaped charge ammunition has been increased.
  • M1A1 HC — a bug that caused the dozer blade to be missing from the model has been fixed.
  • M10 — a bug that caused some modules to be missing in x-ray mode has been fixed.
Aircraft
  • A bug during long sessions that caused AGMs and air-to-air missiles to visually remain on their hardpoints after being fired has been fixed.
Naval Vessels
  • A bug where an incorrect number of destroyed guns was shown in the hit camera on some ships has been fixed.
  • Incorrect reading of 0% in the hit camera when deselecting a target has been fixed.
Other

Here's a quick rundown:

Visual Improvements

One of the things that we wanted to improve was the game's visuals. Using the color contract, and saturation contract, we can make enemies more legible and easier to identify. Check out the work-in-progress visuals below:



Gameplay Changes

We've read all your comments about the overall gameplay elements.

Firstly, we will be completely overhauling the shield system to make your experience more enjoyable and exciting.

Secondly, we will be unlocking special attacks earlier and completely updating them. For example, Ulrich's special attack now summons a flaming phantasm that draws the enemy's attention, and his next finisher will explode the flaming phantasm and shatter shields.



We will also be redesigning 6 schools and each of them will give the player a new school skill. Players can combine different schools and see how they interact with other schools, but they can only equip one School Skill at a time.



School of the Storm allows the player to summon a Storm Riposte. Casting Riposte becomes an active behavior if the player chooses it and equips its School Skill.



Co-op Changes & New Character

We received a lot of feedback about the lack of co-op at the beginning of the story. So we decided to introduce it at the beginning of the game with a new character. So players can enjoy co-op from the very beginning of the game.

Upcoming Playtest

We've decided to include all of the above updates in the upcoming closed playtest, which will begin at the end of the month. We will keep you updated on all the dates you can join the test. Follow the StormEdge on Steam to stay updated!

PAX East 2024
