Hey all. We have been silent on the news for a while, because we’ve been working on a lot of big things! In this announcement we will tease a part of it and tease the rest in the next announcement.
UPGRADES OVERHAUL
The previous upgrades were sometimes lacking in specific synergies, and some upgrades did not lead anywhere at all. Some were downright a debuff. Now, the old ones are reworked into a lot of synergistic upgrades. They will be a lot more satisfying to combine.
2 MORE SPECIALS FOR EACH SKILL With the new builds coming around, we are TRIPLING the amount of specials! Many people did not like the single choice of special, this should fix that. These specials will allow for a lot crazier synergies, let’s see what you can cook with the new arsenal of choices!
REROLL
Sometimes, the game forces you to take some upgrades or skills that you don’t want, and that is neither fun nor fair, as many of you rightfully told so. We are implementing a novel, never heard before mechanic, REROLLS! Now you will be able to reroll your skill drops and upgrades drops.
COMBAT OVERHAUL No more instant deaths, no more rapid health loss and healing back up! The enemy damages and healings in the game has been lowered, so the combat will be much more stable.
ENEMY REBALANCE Enemy types did not offer enough of a difference before, so they all felt the same. Now they are much more impactful, tanks will not be stalled so easily, and dashers will be flanking you unless you know how to deal with them, and more!
Backpack Battles has been out for 4 days now! We've been busy fixing bugs and have already pushed some hotfix patches. You can view the recent patch notes ingame by clicking the version number on the bottom right. We also post them on our Discord server.
We wanted to address some common technical issues and frequently asked questions.
Steam Deck Issues
For some reason we don't know, Steam doesn't launch the correct build on Steam Deck, and the game instantly crashes when you try to start it up. The workaround to get it to launch is by enabling and disabling Compatibility.
In your library click on Backpack Battles, click the cog button on the right, open Properties, Compatibility, check "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool", uncheck again, close properties. It should start normally from that point onward.
Controller support
The game has controller support, and with the 0.9.0f patch, you can reconfigure gamepad inputs in the options. It should display icons that match the controller you're using. Please give feedback, and let us know if you encounter issues, so we can add "Full controller support" to the store page.
Game does not start
This seems to be an issue with missing dependencies on some systems that we are trying to figure out. In many cases, verifying the game files fixes it. We also checked some settings in the backend to hopefully fix this issue.
Family Sharing does not work
We do not know what causes this, and we have contacted Steam support several days ago but haven't got a response yet.
Update: Steam support fixed it!
We're doing our best to make the game accessible to all of you, thank you for helping us with bug reports etc.! We're also planning a balance patch soon.

This update's main feature is Trade Relays: these are Trade Ports' younger siblings.
They appear closer to the center of the map, and are available earlier on the research tree. Our goal was to provide more alternative options for getting more advanced goods at the earlier stages of the game, along with providing an opportunity for the players to get acquainted with trading mechanics earlier on.
Oh, and as opposed to Trade Ports, Trade Relays can be removed with Dynamite, if you don't need them and/or they interrupt your factory-building plans.

Today’s text is going to be short and sweet in order to show you we are listening to your feedback. Since the initial release of the Leopard Cockerill article, we’ve analyzed your feedback as well as the performance of the Harimau progression Light Tank (which the Leopard Cockerill closely resembles in performance – same turret and all that).
In short, we’ve come to the conclusions that buffs to both vehicles are needed. That is why we are making the following changes:
Harimau is receiving HEAT rounds (similar to the other ones of the same caliber and Tier)
Leopard Cockerill is receiving them too
Leopard Cockerill is getting the optional firepower configuration that trades the previously announced magazine for sustained rate of fire
Both vehicles will also see the magazine configuration reload time reduced to 1.5s
In short, both vehicles are getting better. And that’s all we have for you today.
