In our previous game "Shinobi non grata", we made 8-bit graphics with sharp contrast for a cleaner look. This time, the dot graphics are made with finer details for higher visual intensity. Destruction is a big part of the fun in this action game, so we've made it a point to make the robots detailed so it's satisfying when they're blown up using explosions and guns.
I have an opinion that in essence; a robot game is fun when you're able to control a heavy machine and make it wreak havoc in the front lines despite getting shot at. I'm constantly thinking of ways to create situations that would make that possible.
Shinobi non grata was created with the idea of beating several types of bosses with speed and style. This time, the gameplay is in maneuvering unique robots that have strong characteristics... I'm hoping to simulate a similar type of excitement to taming a wild horse.
Information for those who are interested in running the game on the Steam Deck, Steam will do their own evaluation in due course but we want to provide our own notes so players can make a decision.
The game is fully playable on the Steam Deck with complete controller support for all menus, gameplay, and text entry. However the performance in key areas of the game is not all that good, at around 35fps.
Therefore for players who were thinking of playing mostly on the Steam Deck we would not advise getting the game until we have had time to do some optimization after launch. For players who want to play mostly on PC and occasionally continue their cloud save game on the Deck it might be ok.
If you do wish to play on the Steam Deck we recommend going into the game settings and choosing the Lowest quality, you can also improve the framerate a little by setting resolution to 640x400 and using the FSR scaling option in the Steam Deck performance settings.
