I planned to release something to the beta servers this week. However, I underestimated the effort needed to implement the new equipment system.
Nevertheless, I can show you the avatar compilation interface.
You select your equipment blueprints on the Loadout screen.
All items have a material cost associated. You can see the material cost at the bottom. You can also see all currently available spells there.
The name for the new avatar gets prefilled through a name generator. You can always override it with your own choice or generate another.
Experience for all items gets pooled.
You will still gather experience on the items you use. During the compilation, all experience gets summed up. You can use that experience to unlock role-, weapon- or accessory talents.
Accessory talents have an additional ring bonus.
If you choose all heal-associated talents, you get a ring bonus.
Essences only boost specific abilities.
Each ability can mount up to 3 essences.
The amount of essences you can mount is the sum of the item capacities.
A weapon has the following capacity:
2 + item.level + (item.bonusLevel / 5)
Armor, Trinkets and Boots:
1 + (item.level / 2) + (item.bonusLevel / 10)
So if you have four level four items, your essence capacity is 15.
Essence combinations are still present, but they will only give stats now.
If you look at the cover, you will notice that I reworked the essence design.
I will focus on finishing the avatar compilation.
Most UI code is already finished. I have to integrate the compilation process. After that, I have to migrate all items to the new circular talent tree.
Welcome to Devinica 2.1 as promised in the 2.0 patch notes I have a commitment to reimplementing 1.0 features with 2.0 sounds, art, and mechanics. Today this is the start of that being followed through with the introduction of the horde mode which has been remade for 2.0. The mode maintains similar mechanics to the 1.0 horde mode although it can be accessed without the need for collecting any disks.
To access the horde mode simply interact with the marked door right by the spawn area (on the far wall of the starting street, see image below), the game will track your kills during this mode and display on the main menu along with your run times.
Thanks for all the support on 2.0 the game went from a couple hundred units to over 10k!
In this massive balance and polish update, we've done our best to refine nearly every aspect of Duels of Fortune's gameplay! Not only have many of the universal systems have been tweaked, but almost every character has gotten some amount of balance changes too, with Clyde and Sylvan in particular even getting brand-new moves! We've also added some new costumes, Missions, and music tracks to enjoy!
Outside of new character additions, this might be the biggest update in Duels of Fortune's history! We hope you all enjoy the new changes, and we can't wait to finally get back to working on characters! Next up, the Azutron update!
Here are the (VERY LONG) patch notes for this update. We won't blame you for not reading them all.
MAJOR OVERHAUL
Clyde was the first character ever developed for the game, and that age was starting to show in both his visuals and the overall feel of his moveset. So, we decided to give him a big overhaul! Many of his animations and visual effects have been redone from scratch, certain moves have been touched up in their functionality, and he's even got a brand-new move to play with!
MODERATE TWEAKS
Annie didn't have much wrong with her, and in fact is still one of the characters we're proudest of to this day! She's nonetheless received a few changes to help her better integrate her Portable Supercharged Tesla into her zoning, as well as a few other miscellaneous tweaks.
MODERATE TWEAKS
While Rattlebone is very much supposed to be effective at almost everything, some of his moves were a bit overtuned, making him stronger than intended in some areas. His changes are few, but they should help reign him in significantly.
MODERATE TWEAKS
Shoto's offense is pretty oppressive by design, but this could make him quite frustrating to fight at times. We've toned down some of his more obnoxious elements, such as his projectile game and his block pressure, while keeping his big damage and combo game largely untouched.
MINOR TWEAKS
Derrick was largely fine, so we didn't touch him much. He has received some small nerfs, but they're mainly in the interest of correcting some oversights, and don't greatly affect his gameplay. He does get a cool new costume, though!
MODERATE TWEAKS
Red's gotten a few nice buffs, including two new ways to secure a Hard Knockdown, which helps really drive in his bullying playstyle!
MINOR TWEAKS
While he wasn't desperately in need of changes, Baron's regular Brightstar Bomber has gotten the same treatment as its Grand counterpart for combos, since it was previously possible to use it many times in a combo with little drawback if timed correctly.
MODERATE OVERHAUL
Sylvan's got a wealth of new options to play with, thanks to a complete overhaul of his Slot Machine special! The changes make working your way up to Full House Mode much more engaging and interesting, as there are even more possible routes to achieve your goals, and lots of new considerations to make in regards to the order you collect Aces!
MODERATE TWEAKS
A few miscellaneous changes, but the big one is that Shiverskull's crew can now be hit by the opponent's attacks, making his crewmate pressure a bit less safe overall. On the bright side, though, he's looking sharp with his new costume!
BUG FIXES
Just some good 'ol bug fixes for her! While Lumina does seem to be a very strong character, there's nothing in particular that we feel confident in changing about her right now. A puppet character in a game as free-form as Duels of Fortune is bound to be powerful, after all!
MODERATE TWEAKS
Black Heart was definitely a very overtuned character, having no serious weaknesses while being capable of some of the most terrifying mix-ups and knockdown pressure in the game. With these changes, we've attempted to better accentuate his intended weaknesses while keeping his strengths intact.
BUG FIXES
I mean... How do you improve something that's already so perfect?
MINOR TWEAKS
Just one change for Callowman, but it's something that was probably long overdue. Sorry, floating green buddy.
MINOR TWEAKS
Doodle is a weird character to balance, but for this update, we've just made a few small changes, including a buff to Ultimate Doodle to bring it in line with other major install Supers. Doodle also gets the third of the three costumes in this update!
MINOR TWEAKS
Mostly bug fixes, as is to be expected from the living glitch itself, but we've also slightly tweaked the feel of ERROR's flight.
MODERATE TWEAKS
Johnson gets a nice movement speed buff to help him maneuver and close the gap more easily! A certain sharkman has also gotten a bit faster (though not exactly willingly).
MODERATE TWEAKS
Aside from the MOUNTAIN of bug fixes she's gotten, Ember's also received some nice buffs in a few areas to help her more consistently do what she wants to do!
