We've been hard at work implementing some exciting changes and fixes to enhance your Last Whisper Survival experience. Here's a rundown of what's new in our latest demo update:
1. **Death Indicator**: Keep track of your remains with a skull icon and the distance in meters from your corpse when you perish. However, we're aware of a minor issue where the head doesn't disappear after looting the body. Rest assured, this will be rectified soon.
2. **Optimization Overhaul**: Enjoy a smoother gameplay experience with an increase of up to 30 FPS, depending on your graphics card. How did we achieve this improvement? Well, that's our little secret ;)
3. **Enhanced Security**: We've fortified our demo against potential theft, ensuring that your experience remains safe and secure.
4. **Combat Animations**: Engage in melee combat with style thanks to new animations that bring the fight to life.
5. **Tutorial Implementation**: Learn the ropes of survival with our new tutorial system. While it's simple, it's incredibly valuable for newcomers to grasp the essentials.
6. **Improved Zombie Movement**: Witness smoother and more realistic zombie movements, enhancing the overall gameplay immersion.
7. **Streamlined Loot Mechanics**: Say goodbye to building parts cluttering up your loot drops.
8. **Refined Hitboxes**: Looting just got easier with fixed hitboxes for smoother item collection.
9. **Ranged Combat Fixes**: Take down zombies from afar with improved accuracy and reliability in shooting mechanics.
10. **New Factory Environment**: Explore a new industrial setting complete with a challenging boss encounter. Dungeons have been temporarily removed until further improvements are made.
And what's on the horizon? Here's a sneak peek at what's coming next:
- **First-Person Perspective (FPP) Improvements**: Expect better animations and smoother transitions. - **Sensitivity Options**: We're addressing your feedback by fine-tuning sensitivity settings for a more personalized experience. - **Improved Item Mechanics**: Loot management is getting an upgrade with the option to loot all items at once. - **Tool Combat**: Get ready to fend off threats using tools as weapons. - **Enhanced Ladders**: Climbing will soon be a breeze with improved ladder mechanics.
We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our survey. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to refine and polish Last Whisper Survival. Keep those ideas coming on Discord; we're always listening and eager to hear from you!
I Hear your feedback! Elite enemies buffing each other is soft locking people, and although closing and reopening the game solves it, its just annoying to deal with and halts progression by a lot. Now Elite enemies enemies can not buff each other anymore. They can't heal, they don't get double health, and they will never be invulnerable. Another quick tip to help dealing with them is equipping the Tool, it helps you locate them easily!
Also I managed to fix the Ballistas growing too much bug.
Please let me know if you find anything else! Remember to update your games to see these changes in effect!
Early this month I introduced Cogmind's first new upscaled layout option, then immediately followed up with development of our second new option! While the other option (to become the new player default) is "Semi-modal," we'll now have a third and even more extreme "Modal" layout which, as you can see in the sample above, hides away the top-side consoles in order to reclaim more of the map view.
That sample screenshot happens to be taken with optional map zoom activated as well--although I think the upscaled grid size across the board means modal layout players are less likely to need or want to zoom the map, the function is of course available and the new zoom-related QoL will come in especially useful.
With the top-side consoles hidden, message/combat logs can be opened and read in full as usual, but for convenience they'll also show temporarily over the map (adjustable count and duration), as seen here with two columns of message log data:
A mix of message log (left) and combat log (right):
Above the map are the familiar buttons for interacting with what is normally visible in those consoles:
See below for some additional sample screenshots from the Modal UI layout (open images to full size if necessary).
Early game (zoomed, 1080p):
Late game (not zoomed, 1080p):
The same scene as above, but in 1440p and using one of several new fonts added to Beta 13 (Tamsyn):
If you want to see the Modal layout in action, earlier this week I streamed a run making use of it, actually the conclusion to my last stream that began with the other/Semi-modal layout:
All three UI layout options are available right from the top of the Options menu (requires a restart to take effect):
More information, as well as a summary of the Semi-modal layout, can be found on the dev blog in Part 5 of the the "Full UI Upscaling" series, "Completion and Demos."
- If you're itching to try these new layouts yourself, the good news is... they're coming next week! The results of testing have been very positive, and Beta 13 release is now scheduled for February 27th :D

We will release a meaty DEMO on the first of March. Be ready with the controllers or keyboard or flight stick! Days of Haze is a passion project for us, developed over a period of six years, and now I can finally show you what we have been working on all these years with a first brief introduction to the items and armors.
Let us begin with an explanation of the armor system. In Days of Haze, every part of the world belongs to a climate zone: Hot - very warm, Medium - Temperate, Cold - what it says :-) . Every day has different temperatures and climate and it can improve or get worse by you, which you can check out outside Haze's home:
Here you see there are 25 degrees in Karma Village which is in the HOT temperate zone. If you were to switch to the nice new beautiful Blue Protector Armor you found shown below. It would have a low hot resistance which means even in only 25 degrees you would overheat after a while and be having to bring enormous amounts of water. When you overheat you can also catch bugs and diseases that affect you in various ways.
These temperatures in all zones are affectable by how you play. The temperature and amount of wind and rain/thunder in turn depend on how much wildlife you kill and how many seeds you plant or can be connected to quests in the numerous towns. The whole world's climate and people's lives are affected by what you and others do in the world. This in turn affects the growth rate of all things growing, the world is very reactive.
You can also see in the picture below that the armor has a stamina penalty which means you get tired more quickly. The maximum stamina is affected by how much you rest and how well fed you are. So weigh pros and cons.
Below is a picture of the first inventory page. In the top right corner are quick slots where a lot of items are selectable. You can choose to stack heal items activated by the buttons. Or different kinds of bombs you crafted or special items like hooks and the infamous axe to break rocks and find secrets and new paths in the world. The game is full with secrets and hidden lore begging to be explored.
How do i solve this statue puzzle??
The next update will focus more on the Day and Night Cycle, Crafting, and the level-up tree.
And after that we go more into depth of the animal breeding and personality system.
Thank you for reading till the end!! Endless amount of love
Hans-Peter
PS. Here is a bonus picture of the controller layout:
Game is in development so graphical resources are upgraded constantly and subject to changes.
