Hey there, Sproutling fans!

We've got a new update to the demo for you, just in time for Dinos vs. Robots Fest, which we'll be participating in next week!

There are some exciting new challenges to look forward to with this latest update, so shall we dive into the highlights?

First up on the agenda: drones. These protective lil bots will now appear during both zones in the demo, and they'll be tasked with defending the Ancient Buildings in the Town Zone, and the Transmitters in the Junkyard. They'll be able to harm your Sproutlings, so you might want to build some watchtowers...

Which brings us to our next point: Sproutling workers that are harmed now become incapacitated, turning them into Soul Seeds which need to be regrown in the aptly named Soul Garden. You'll be able to see your incapacitated workers as a separate stat in-game, so you can keep track of them!

We've also got some updated Sproutling management tools for you, allowing you to choose whether you'd like your Sproutlings to clear or gather from a tile, as well as giving you the option to forbid them from using specific tiles - this will come in handy with those pesky drones on the loose!

Of course, there are plenty more quality of life and bug fixes, including clearer tracking of food and consumption and production, expanded tutorials covering new topics, and lots more! You can read the full changelog down below.

If you'd like to give us any feedback, have any questions, or just want to chat about the demo, don't forget to stop by our Discord, Twitter, or TikTok!

Changelog:
  • Workers can become incapacitated, turning into soul seeds and regrown at soul garden
  • Drone added to both levels
  • Watchtowers usable against drones, show watchtower range when selected
  • Deeper population system with housing, active and incapacitated workers
  • Forges generate materials per tick, not per day
  • New food system with food units displayed instead of food days, more detailed tooltips
  • Better looking and optimized shadows
  • Detailed tooltips for materials, worker data etc.
  • Forbid tool for preventing workers going into dangerous areas
  • Tweaked building requirement UI
  • Fixed some worker timer cleanup when exiting the map
  • Fixed bridge construction site broken inspector
  • Separate tools for gathering resources and clear buildings
  • Fixed lots of inspector and description texts
  • Expanded tutorial with new topics
  • Reduced job durations
  • Added notification system showing messages and alerts on the left
  • Outpost coverage markers only shown for those placeables which require coverage
  • Reduced decoration objective in town zone
  • Tweaked objectives in junkyard zone
  • Jellyfish leave when all transmitters have been captured
  • Lots of small bugfixes and tweaks

Great Houses of Calderia - Lau_Rad
Oy rulers,

In today's devblog, we'll tackle social conflicts and how they play a pivotal role in your nobles' lives. Social conflicts are common in Calderia and part and parcel of diplomacy. Each House has its own interests and plans. They lead to negotiations where your characters and companions' skills will help you choose the outcomes that are most advantageous to you.

Understanding social conflicts

Unlike military battles, where victory might be more straightforward, social conflicts involve negotiation "fields" in the form of boards where you place your character and companions. The board is made of nodes and paths that represent verbal sparring that you must win by conquering the nodes. When characters or companions meet, they argue until one of them backs away. You and AI alike can prioritize specific topics, making negotiations more intricate and goal-oriented. These conflicts can include trade, marriage, and peace negotiations, for instance.

Impact of family members and companions

Family member characteristics and abilities
Each family member possesses basic stats like "attack" and health, influencing their strengths in negotiations. Additionally, personality traits grant them extra abilities, some passive and others active. These abilities, ranging from automatic impacts to temporary boosts, significantly affect conflict dynamics and make your family member a determining part of the negotiation.

Role of companions
Companions, representing the household staff, are useful assets in social conflicts. They are unlocked through fiefdom upgrades and accompany family members in negotiations. When starting a negotiation, you will have to choose which ones will take part in the social conflict. Higher-tier companions possess stronger abilities, better health, and "attack" values. They are all specialized in one of the four following skills: Diplomacy, Economy, Intrigue, or Military.

Dynamics and outcomes of social conflicts

Negotiation dynamics
During social conflicts, the selection of companions and their abilities influence negotiation outcomes. Companions may leave negotiations due to depleted health or nerves to rest, impacting the negotiation process. If they have good composure (symbolized by the heart icons), then they can return to the negotiations shortly after resting. However, if they are out of hearts, they cannot return to the board of the current conflict anymore.

Long-term effects
Successfully managing social conflicts grants various benefits, including traits, skills, and Tradition points. These outcomes make your House and characters more skilled for future negotiations. In summary, social conflicts are part of the diplomatic depth we wanted to develop. Choose the family members and companions you will use to solve them carefully so you can talk your way to the most profitable outcome.

And that concludes our devblog for today. Understanding the dynamics, stakes, abilities, and skills of social conflicts is part of your journey to become the most powerful House in Calderia!

Want to contribute to the game's improvement? You can do so by sharing your feedback and suggesting what you'd like to see in the game on our Discord or Steam forums!

JUNKPUNK - Dimir
Hello everyone, my name is Russell and I am the new game designer at SCT!

Rich has brought me into the team to help with exclusive development on Junkpunk for the time being so here I am! The YouTube video is a conversation between rich and I about our envisioned plans for the future of Junkpunk, leading up to the release of the anticipated Monolith 3 update.

I have been getting to grips with Junkpunk lately and learning about the game and it's mechanics. I absolutely love the concept and have plenty of ideas and ways to improve the general gameplay and quality of life experience for players.

What I will be focusing on...

1. I am heavily invested in the story and lore side of the game and this is something I want to focus on. I love the themes of cleaning up a planet to make it habitable again and I think having a solid written narrative for the game would improve all areas of gameplay and new added content!

2. I'm looking to enhance the player experience through incentives to explore the map and world of Junkpunk. This will come hand in hand with the lore and story side, as the player explores the map searching for new content, they will discover and become more immersed in the story of Junkpunk.

3. I have already seen plenty of steam reviews and received feedback from players surrounding the UI and UX issues. (Something I have also encountered in my playthrough) and so I will be working to get that cleaned up and polished!

4. Monolith 3! The reality is that there is a huge amount to be done, Richard has done an amazing job so far but his hands are full with other projects (which is why i'm here.) So I will be taking the gradual necessary steps towards the release of Monolith 3. I have plenty of ideas on how to add new content for it as well as redevelop aspects of Monolith 1 & 2 so rest assured that i'm working to get it done! In the near future we should be putting out some kind of update about when Monolith 3 might be getting released ;)

5. Send me feedback! I'm Dimir in the Junkpunk discord so just shoot me a message with anything you would like to see added, changed, or even removed from the game!

I'm really looking forward to getting to work on Junkpunk, once again i just love the sci-fi nature of it all and can't wait to start putting new content out there. But patience is the key, i promise it will all be worth it.

Take care everyone!

Russell
