A quick patch has been published in order to address connectivity issues.
The game should now connect normally. The game intro splash has been modified and is now using the stock Unity splash.
On a side note, the game should load faster than before, and keep a constant resolution.

New levels are now available, and will be properly introduced in a separate post.

Hello everyone!

This update has three major things that I recommend going through, especially the first one! Plus some other stuff!

Steam Cloud

First, the game now supports Steam Auto Cloud, which means your custom maps, scenarios and saves will now be saved into the cloud whenever you close the game. This will allow you to download those same files onto another computer and continue them there.

If you play on multiple devices, I would suggest you start and close the game on the device with your most crucial savefiles and scenarios. This should complete the initial upload process. After this, you might get a warning on other devices that the Steam Cloud is out of sync. If you open the warning and click sync now, it should download your files that you uploaded into the cloud previously. You might not even receive a warning. I you have any concerns about losing any progress on any device, you could backup your save files into another folder, though when I tested it everything went fine.

Two new maps & scenarios have been added: Asia and Americas!




Music and Sounds

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that the sound effects that occur on events can become a bit too much especially on large maps and high game speeds. I have tried to address this by making it so that sound effects get quieter as you zoom further out of the map. Also made some sounds mute if the corresponding text popup is also disabled. I will try to improve it further in the future. If you had previously set the game sounds to zero then I suggest you try them on again and let me know if this helps somewhat.

Also, NEW MUSIC! It is pretty funny that the simulation you stare at for a long time only had one song on loop, so now there are TWO MORE! Again, if you had your music on mute, take a listen! Here's one sample:

Welcome to 2024! The new year brings new challenges, new opportunities, and, of course, new updates!

Today’s patch contains some useful and nice items for your houses, as well as a bunch of improvements and bug fixes.


NEW ITEMS
  • New storage options! Copper and Iron chests can accommodate up to 400 and 600 weight units respectively, while also quintupling food preservation time. Last but not least, these chests just look super cool with all those metal elements (yeah, you’ll need some ingots for those).
  • Some of you have asked about our recent change to skill books (they don’t disappear after you read them anymore), and here’s why it was implemented. A bookshelf. Can contain up to 12 books, which makes your house look more comfortable and also lets you physically observe all the knowledge you possess.
  • The newly added Moon Lantern will illuminate and help you admire all those chests and bookshelves you’ll place in your house. It’s a special decorative item to commemorate the Lunar New Year for everyone who celebrates it and to improve the interior of their houses for everyone who wants it.

IMPROVEMENTS AND FIXES
  • Dead bosses’ carcasses no longer spoil and turn into skeletons, so if you weren’t fast enough to loot a defeated boss — don’t worry! It’s still there, with all the goodies inside.
  • Fixed the issue with tier 1 campfire being affected by wind inside a house.
  • The harvest page does not open for an object with no available resources anymore.
  • Switch to the global map button is now highlighted.
  • Fixed the Living Water placement on the Copper Island. It does not fall under terrain now.
  • Fixed the issue with the Great Serpent when its body could rot and it became impossible to retrieve the key.
  • Fixed the bug with the Great Serpent not appearing on the arena if a player entered it.
  • Fixed the issue with some hints displayed even after toggling “Hide hints” and skipping the tutorial.
  • Fixed the bug with dead animals' carcasses spinning.
  • Fixed the bug with the log disappearing when taking it from a cart while having Heatstroke IV status.
  • Fixed the bug with the farm disappearing and not being able to interact with plants after the foundation under the farm was disassembled.
  • Fixed the issue with the yellow marker appearing in the Crafting menu when building a Stormbreaker and not disappearing afterward.
  • Fixed the Hydrilla positions in the Bird, Buffalo, and Snake regions. All hydrillas do not float in water anymore.
  • Fixed a flying object over the Engineer’s camp on Silver Island.
  • Fixed the labyrinth path after the puzzle was solved. A piece of rock does not block the bridge anymore.
  • Improved animals’ behavior.
  • Breathing bubble resources fix.
  • Fixed the number of holes in which players could get stuck.
  • Textures fixes on the Iron Island.
  • Multiple visual fixes.
WHAT’S NEXT
Given it's already 2024 and the full release date is coming closer and closer, we'd like to give you some heads up on what we are doing and where the development is going right now. We're fully focused on finishing the game and developing the final story chapter for the full release coming in Q2 2024. But before that, we're also planning to release an update with some important improvements: save system rework, better game tutorial sequence, new decorations for houses, and more.

A Spider to A Fly - Syine


Achievements are Here!

Hey all, I've been working on adding Achievements to A Spider to A Fly, as well as some other key improvements, and I'm happy to finally drop this update today!

There are now 12 new Achievements in the game (You will need to start a new game to get them all) 5 Normal and 7 Hidden (Returning players may want to explore again!)

I have also made some small improvements to gameplay, visuals, and some lighting, along with some minor bugs and 1 major (sorry) megabug.

But the other big thing is the removal of the 24fps cap;

This cap was deliberate as an "artistic" choice, but I believe it was the culprit for some players feeling the game felt too slow/had blurry visuals.

The cap is now set to 60fps, as I found the game didn't "feel" right on anything higher. There is also now an option to turn the cap back on to 24fps if you like it (I do).

Update 2.8 (Circus Trials & Level Editor BETA 2)

New Level Pack "Circus Trials"
-Ticket collectible to unlock the trials
-3 new challenging circus themed levels; "Clown Towers", "Gloomy Gambols" and "Circuit Circus"
-All of them featuring tough loot race time trials
-4 new cosmetics (Clown Nose, Glove Staff, Bowtie, True Clown)
-15 hidden tokens

Clown Enemy
-A highly annoying enemy that chases you down
-Hard to kill and usually gets the first hit on you
-It can fly back up if knocked down from platforms
-No cheese reward for destroying it, best to avoid them

Spider Enemy
-The first smart enemy
-Can jump from platform to platform
-Can spawn baby spiders if damaged or sometimes when idling (also smart)
-Will kick back after taking damage, can't spam attacks on it

Changes and fixes
-New damage type, popcorn drowning (lol)
-Cheat codes have been disabled entirely
-Levels can now be replayed (erase level specific savedata from main menu)
-Damage from water or void will be 50% of the damage you'd normally receive (previously complete immunity from damage)
-Custom fire and electricity planes (in level editor) have a unique "force position reset" property which can override pepper immunity (so you don't just fall right through them, it's always enabled)
-Added a toggle for depth of field post processing effect in the settings
-Added master volume slider (suggested by saku & tonk (aggressively))
-Updated the water material in bathroom
-Fixed an issue where double jump sometimes couldn't be performed after walking off from a platform
-Medal materials are now a lot brighter (visibility was bad in level select and it was impossible to tell the medals apart)
-Decreased music volume in all levels
-Added footstep noises to bonus level select

Workshop support
-You can now upload your levels to the Steam Workshop (levels may take up to a minute to appear in the workshop, please be patient and don't try reuploading if you don't see the level immediately)
-Add user created levels to your game by subscribing to them in Steam and refreshing the list in-game

-Auto-updating workshop maps is not yet supported

-Object transform, custom data and many other properties can now be clicked and you can write your own precise value without having to fiddle with the + and - buttons

  1. BUG: Fixed an incorrect description of the icon guide in the spell skill tree.
  2. Content: New BOSS: Pyromancer. He has three long-range attacks. Be aware of the distance from him, if you're near the range of him, he could trigger double shooting.
  3. Content: New enemy type: Shooter. Changed the monster "Fire element" from a normal enemy to a shooter.
