HEY
It has been such a long year and we wanted to thank everyone for the support they've shown us and Wood & Weather by making a Picrew!



For those of you unaware of what "Picrew" is, it's a little web-based character creator. Use it to make a wooden toy version of yourself, a friend, a weirdo, someone you wish was in the game or just anyone you can think of!

A huge amount of work went into putting this together by our artist Cole and we've already seen so many fun creations already!

Thank you also to everyone who has Followed, Wishlisted and played the demo of Wood & Weather. We appreciate all of the feedback and kind words people have said to us over the year. We also really loved being able to do some in-person events this year too!

We had high hopes of releasing the full game this year, but things didn't work out as we originally planned. That being said, next year is going to be a big one for us and we can't wait to share what we've been working on! We're on a much needed break until Jan 2024(!)

What's new in version 1.10

Experience
Armies gain experience points in battles and upon reaching necessary experience they get promoted.
Veteran armies are stronger then New recruits. Veterans can get promoted to Fanatics, who are again bit stronger and radiate Power and Fanatics can get promoted to Elite units, which radiate more Power and have some Theocracy-specific bonuses.

Alien invasion
Alien invasion is now a real battle. When "Intergalactic Travel" knowledge is discovered, the Aliens will start to invade the planet by very strong units. In the previous versions the Alien invasion immediately ended the game. Now you have a chance to still fight for a victory for few more turns...
The Alien invasion also dramatically increases Monster strength, so if you managed to save some Monster miracles for late stage of the game, the Monsters can help you delay the destruction by the Aliens. Good luck :-)

New game settings
"Balanced random" locations distribution was added as an option for new games. This option guarantees more even distribution of Holy Regions on the map.
You can now also change Knowledge discovery speed for a new game, so you can play either technologically faster evolving games, or exactly the opposite.

Map Builder
You can now create your own maps using the Map Builder.

Scenarios support
This version supports mods / scenarios.
I will soon release some scenario and description how to create them.

Other changes based on your suggestions
Starting bonuses for Theocracies were slightly increased.
Defense bonus for hills decreased from 75% to 50%
Bug fixes including a bug which caused too many Pagan monsters in some games.

A couple of hotfixes for bugs in the new update! Thank you all for your reports and patience.
- Fixed duplicate quest for 'Beginnings of a Bestiary II'.
- Fixed a crash that happens when releasing a creature that is assigned to a pen.

Happy Holidays, and seasons greetings from Santa-Artisan (non-festive version further below)!




The last two months have been quiet as usual during the end of the year, as we finish up obligations and take a break for the holidays. We recently finished setting up the build for early feedback and testing, with a focus on how the narrative and progression experience feels before committing to polished work.

This also will help us in the coming year, when we move into overall script editing and rewrites.

Sprite Work
Since our last update, we’ve completed almost all the game’s sprite work! The Artisan now has his complete sprite set, giving him more variety in poses he uses to stalk plucky heroines.



We’ve also completed a sprite set for an unrevealed character! They’re one of our favorite characters, and require a bit more thought in how we portray them in story scenes compared to characters like Essie or Giselle. Figuring out how to solve that, though, has given us more potential ideas for how we can improve overall presentation during scenes for when we get to polishing.

  • New Roguelike mechanic in "Eternal Suffering" mode, adding an EXP system when killing monsters;
  • 72 skill cards added in "Eternal Suffering" with various effects and rarity levels;
  • Stage 3 added;
  • First boss available in stage 3: "Devermon";
  • Added visual lighting effects in the new stage;
  • New moving platforms;
  • New Alice letter in stage 3;
  • "Flappydenptio" minigame added to the game;
  • 5 cutscenes added to the game (expected 11 in the final version);
  • EXP gained from each enemy in "Eternal Suffering" can vary based on factors such as shooting accuracy, time of death, number of Eclipses, among other variables;
  • Enemies become more damaging, faster, and have more life based on the number of Eclipses the player survives in Eternal Suffering;
  • During the Eclipse, various enemies are summoned (with the number increasing with each Eclipse);
  • Control scheme selection (Windows, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo);
  • The control scheme changes the buttons displayed during the tutorial and menu screens;
  • Buttons appear in the menu when using a gamepad and disappear when using keyboard and mouse;
  • 3 Stars added for completing all stages (1 for completing the stage, 1 for eliminating all enemies in the stage, and 1 for collecting all letters in the stage);
  • Full Gamepad support added;
  • Added unique projectile impact effects for each weapon color;
  • Option to enable or disable controller vibration;
  • Devermon added to the Bestiary;
  • EXP and Score display during "Eternal Suffering" gameplay;
  • Level, Eclipses, Score, Enemies killed, Time, and Accuracy display during "Eternal Suffering" pause screen;
  • Active enemies in the stage display during "Campaign" mode gameplay;
  • Time, Enemies killed, Secrets (Alice letters), Deaths, and Accuracy display during "Campaign" mode pause screen;
  • Control scheme selection option added in the Control settings menu;

Corrections:

  • Visual effects of weapon impact explosions modified;
  • All Alice letters have been rewritten;
  • Lava modified (transparency effect removed, and lighting effect modified);

  • Overall game graphic quality improvements, choosing between High, Normal, or Low quality;
  • Enemy bodies stop following the game view in Low quality to improve performance;
