Portal Fantasy - Haron PF
Oh man, so many new cool things. Ok, ok, let us focus here.

Auto login

First things first. Full Steam auto-login. No more messy inserting emails or logging in using your gamer fingers. Those will be reserved for your journey through the world of Portal Fantasy.
If this is your first time in the demo, you will see a screen asking you to choose your game name (the name that the other players will see you as in the world).

Valeria

Thanks to all the feedback from you guys and the lovely content creators who have been streaming us, we have made several 'quality of life' improvements. Some examples are:
  • Pointing out the healing fountain after the tutorial battle (we know many missed it)
  • Jeejee now moves to point out which door you can go through to choose your first porble.
  • Teakka quest has been expanded so it is clearer where you can find them.
  • Now when you start typing to chat with the other players, a speech bubble appears above your head.

And the best improvement of all... Groobeet now breakdances. What do you mean you never saw a turtle-like creature breakdancing? Well go and check them out for yourself then.

Desert

The whole map layout was improved. New look, new critters (you can find some scorpions and lizards moving around), and more spikes. Because everyone needs more spikes.

Even if you have played this map before, you will find it hard to recognise now. And on top of it all, a brand new quest. But be careful, for your choices will matter in this quest.

Bugs

Lots of them were fixed, thanks to you guys reporting them. But many still need fixing. If you think you've found a bug, please report it to us via the Steam community hub or via our discord.
Also, those bushes that turn into oysters – that is not a bug...it's... errrr.... the heat? Magic? Yes, magical heat.

Thank you for reading this development diary for Portal Fantasy. We will keep them coming until the game is finished, and if you are interested, please add the game to your wishlist on STEAM!

About the game
Portal Fantasy offers two different play styles: hero and architect. As a Hero, you can explore different worlds, befriend monsters, raise them, and make them fight. The Architect is then responsible for creating maps with tilesets that support the adventures of the Heroes.

Undeadly - RyanLQ
Hi there!

I'm excited to release an update that adds a new area to the map and brings several quality of life features.

[Map] Outskirts

The Outskirts District is a new area west of the Residential District.

Here you will find a burger restaurant, supermarket, ambulance and a military area. Have fun exploring and looting!

[Game] Clearable Barricades

  • These are items in the map that take time to remove.
  • Once they are cleared, you can access previously blocked off areas.
  • The salvage faster ability also increases the speed a survivor will clear objects.
[Quality of Life] Automated Actions

  • Survivors will automatically progress actions to completion when scavenging, salvaging, or clearing objects.
  • You can see that a survivor is automated as they have different action point icons.
  • You can cancel the automation by moving the survivor or by using equipment.
  • You will still see all regular camera events while automated, so for example, if a zombie gets too close, you can move away or attack it as you normally would.
  • This setting can be disabled in the options menu under 'Options => Game => Automate Survivor Actions'
  • In future updates, this will also be applied to healing in the Medical Bay and completing tasks in the Workshop.
Patch Notes

  • [Audio] Added sound effects to looting.
  • [Audio] Added a new night-time music track 'Shadows and Dust' from Scott Buckley.
  • [Quality of Life] The inventory menu will automatically open when a survivor has finished scavenging or salvaging a container and it is still their turn.
  • [Quality of Life] Added a warning when loading saves which are potentially too old for the current version of the game.
  • [Balance] Reduced the spawn rate of putrid zombies outside of the Putrid Den. (12% => 8%)
  • [Bug] Fixed a bug where salvage faster would not apply its benefit in some cases.
  • [Bug] Fixed a bug where multiple hazards of the same type could incorrectly be added to a unit in some cases.

As always, be sure to drop any feedback in the Discord server or the in game feedback tool.

I appreciate your time and attention!

Thanks, ːsteamthumbsupː

Sapphire Safari - Henley
This is a copy of our v019 release post for early adopters over on Itch and GOG.

Hello explorers! Welcome to another Sapphire Safari patch! With Christmas right around the corner, we crushed hard to ensure this build was in your hands sooner, rather than later. Let’s dive into what's new!

A new Focus
As I explained in the previous Sapphire Documents issue, we have changed how players control their trusty camera and created a few new QOL tools to help snap the perfect photo.

First though, a disclaimer. You can no longer take several photos within a quick amount of time.

What does that mean? Well, as developers we have an ideal way we want our players to interface with Sapphire Safari, our goal is to have players focus on stealth, making them more into peeping toms. The world needs to react around the player's presence and make it difficult to take photos, unless they are hidden and out of sight. So the first push toward that ideal comes in the form of a Photo Frame Buffer. This is a set time that the camera needs to process the last photo taken. Currently in v019 players can take two photos quickly before the camera needs to charge. In later builds we might reduce it further, once the player has an option to upgrade the camera capabilities.

These two icons on the bottom of the screen show how many photos you can take, they independently recharge, and the UI will hide itself after.

Next, we have removed the delayed focus in favor of manually selecting a target to focus on, this can be done with the Q button. To make this a viable feature we also added grey boxes around the heads of NPC within the viable scoring distance, this way you can visualize just what Monster Girls the photo will count for.

Lastly, we have added two additional features using an analysis mechanic. A full map tracking system and a photo comparison mechanic. To use both, simply select the target using the focus pull button “Q” and hold down the Analyze button.

This will compare the current animation the NPC is doing and the Variant to the photos already submitted in the Monpedia for the General and Variant tabs. Mating will come later, but the icon has been added all the same.

Next, the NPC can be tracked for a limited time. A new icon is added to the Compass and the Map function.

Directed for higher Frames
The last big feature added to the game is the spawn director, for more details on how this works be sure to read the Sapphire Documents Issue 013, but the basic gist is that instead of a map-wide spawning system with nearly 100 simultaneous NPCs roaming and using system resources for pathfinding and needs, we now spawn the NPC’s directly around the player as the needs are met. The player won’t be able to see the seams of the system which is nice but it should drastically improve system resource use and make the world feel way more alive.

Other Extras
A few more things to note:

  1. New nests were added for the Rabbit, Sheep, Deer, Bat, Wolf, and Fox species. The use cases for these are still being tweaked so expect some odd behaviours around them.
  2. Malous spawn puzzle foundation added to the plains region. More on this later, but you might see and hear some interesting things around the plains at night.
  3. NPC sensitivity tweaks for the upcoming stealth overhaul patch, the girls just react a lot faster to sounds you make. Just keep that in mind for this patch.
  4. Running is now a toggle instead of a hold, this is for our controller users out there. No more claw hold.
Changelog v019:

  • Added new Spawn Director.
  • Added Photo Frame Buffer to photo UX.
  • Added new Photo-scoring animation.
  • Added Analyze tool to Camera functions.
  • Added Tracking tool to Camera functions.
  • Added Target identification to Camera functions.
  • Added Manual Focus Pull to Camera functions.
  • Changed Monster sound radius size.
  • Added Monster tracking for SFX spawn on the player.
  • Added Monster Nests for Rabbit, Sheep, Deer, Bat, Wolf, and Fox species.
  • Added Malous Spawn environment puzzle foundation.
  • Added new sightline props to border Plains regions.
  • Removed compass from submission UI.
  • Swapped Sprinting state to toggle instead of hold.

Stay tuned for the next patch! The roadmap will also be updated as we will be adding another smaller patch for v020. Enjoy!

1. Faction Bases Reworked: A Tale of Two Factions

The Anarchists: Cobra

The Cobra faction, known for their rebellious spirit and disdain for the old world order, has undergone a major transformation. Their base is no longer just a prison; it's a bustling town teeming with activities. Imagine wandering through lively streets, where stores and markets offer a variety of goods. Need a break from the chaos? Relax at the local pub or engage in crafting in the new production area.

The Defenders: Sentinel Alliance

The Sentinel Alliance, staunch defenders of the old world's remnants, also have a revamped base. Picture a more structured and orderly town paced in the airport, reflecting their disciplined nature. Here, you'll find quest givers who'll challenge you with intriguing missions. Fancy some downtime? Try your hand at mini-games like poker or darts, or hone your skills at the shooting range with an array of guns available for purchase.

Game Design Insight: Mini-games within a game not only provide variety but also allow players to engage with the game world in a more relaxed setting, often offering a break from the main storyline.

2. Capturing: A New Way to Acquire Mercenaries

In the unforgiving world of "Lost Region", every decision counts, especially when it comes to survival. Our new capturing mechanic introduces a strategic element to acquiring mercenaries. Encounter a downed enemy? You now have the choice to save them, potentially gaining a new, already leveled-up mercenary with unique skills. But remember, not all are willing to join your cause, adding a layer of unpredictability to each encounter.

New Twist: While your mercenaries are safe from being captured by enemies, there's a thrilling element of risk involved. If a mercenary is Missing In Action (MIA) – left behind and not saved by you – their fate takes a mysterious turn. The world of "Lost Region" is ever-evolving, and an MIA mercenary could reappear in various scenarios. Imagine the suspense of encountering a former ally, now a potential adversary, in an unexpected twist of fate!
