The Season of Revelry continues this week! Following on from the Offerings of Orius - which included new Spells, Throwables, Boss Weapon Abilities, Holiday Decorations and more.
We hope you're prepared for the Trial of the Three Spirits! To unveil their secrets and access the hidden rewards, you must conquer three unique challenges. Each armor set and weapon in this test represents one of the three factions: Radiance, Rhogar, and Umbral.
Behold, the following riddles hold clues for each trial!
Illuminator Aubrey
A cell holds the weapon of one who would in light bask And with radiant prayers uttered, carry out his grave task A sculpture within a tower, two more where brothers dwell And three among those who bid their old lives farewell A stone barrier removed upon ending your bloody quest A lambent shrine uncovered, a once-hidden place of rest
General Engstrom
In the aftermath of a battle fought within a ravine Before a twisted tree, pledge yourself and be seen Gather dousing ammunition from a frozen land And extinguish the blazes of five infernal hands Offer another sign, one expressed most fervently And in victory feel no shame in unleashing your glee
Herald of the Maw
Upon an eerie idol, bestow a mother's embrace And see that firelight is cast upon your face Lonely notes ring out, refrains to be followed Ensure the flames are no longer by darkness swallowed A conductor in the shadows, a grim harmony achieved A deep descent concluding with rewards received
And that’s not all, this update also includes:
Mirror of Distortion - A new questline is now available, offering the chance to unlock a mysterious mirror with the power to transform your very physiognomy. This will enable you to modify your body shape, gender, skin tone, hair color, facial features, and even your name.
New Grievous Attacks - Each weapon family now features two unique finishers: one for single-handed wielding and another for two-handed wielding.
Storage Box - In line with your top Christmas wishlist requests, we're excited to confirm that a Coffer has been added to Skyrest Bridge. This new feature enables you to store up to 2000 items, greatly alleviating your inventory space constraints.
Twisted Tree - In addition to our earlier introduced Christmas decoriations, we also added a twisted tree that players can find when exploring the new content.

All content introduced in this update will remain in the game permanently, even after the season concludes. The only exception is the seasonal decorations on vestiges, which are temporary.
Gamepad Rebinding and New Game+ Modifiers are set to arrive in the new year, as we're dedicated to ensuring the highest quality possible. Stay tuned for these exciting updates.

You can now create an ingame team for you and your friends in multiplayer to join. Teams allow you to share resources and vessels easier, find each other in the universe better, and communicate privately.
Custom Faction Creation
Custom factions are a new feature added to the game that allows players to create factions of their choosing, including name, ship complement, icons, colors and more. This is done inside the game, but from the main menu. Take your team one step further for faction v faction scenarios, or just enhance and expand your game for you and your friends.
Enhanced Mod Support
Finally, enhanced mod support has been added. Mods can now be seen and activated from a menu and is fully supported in singleplayer or multiplayer play. This could allow creative players to do everything from custom ships, new resources, new Problems, new art or just about anything else possible ingame. It continues to support Steam Workshop for best syncing and sharing.
Due to changes with the way game content is categorized, we had to require new universes for BETA 14. Universes from BETA 13 and older cannot be upgraded.
For more indepth technical details see after the changelog

CHANGE: Changed if dialogue portrait isn't specifically set, the faction portrait should "always" be the default now instead of "probably" be the default
CHANGE: Universe purpose generation can be more easily customized and altered via moddata setup json. Purpose can now be driven by faction and level

Removals
Removed old id system for content. Beta 14 and newer will not be backward compatible with older versions.
COMING BETA 15
With a large systems update like this, we generally follow up with a content update. BETA 15 will focus on expanding the game content and we'll be reviewing player comments and suggestions.
Additional Information
In order to unify the content id format, which were previously ints or shorts and limited to specific hardcoded categories, we switched to a string based system that at run-time is converted into a unique int format. This means when creating mods, we, the developers or players wishing to do so, can use easy to read strings for ids, including namespaces yet still benefit from fast run-time performance with id look ups. This does break any support for previous versions as it was too unwiedly at best, or impossible as worst, to make the old format work with the new format for the universe upgrade.
Mods exist with two types, server and client. Mods that are just server only, like custom factions, can be entirely self contained to the server and other players will not have to possess them in order to play. Similarly with client only mods, it is possible for some mods to only affect client graphics, and not be required by the server to operate. Other mods require both the server and client to have enabled. An example of this would be a new custom manufacturing recipe.
A universe, once created, must be loaded with the same mods active that were active when the universe was created. The game will remind you what these are if you have them turned off, so don't worry about having to remember which is which.
Mods are loaded from %appdata%/spaceimpossible/mods (or equivalent for mac and linux).
Finally, content update is here! You can grab the latest changes on Steam! I am very excited to present them below!
BALANCE
Every single technology in the tech tree got re-balanced, so check how it works for you! The game should be more challenging, but also more focused on automation. Basic science can also be automated with mining, including drills. I hope it is not too hard. You will need to scale your station a little bit before moving to the next technology.
NEW TOOLS
The new radial menu simplifies tools selection. New tools for extraction, movement and terrain modification are implemented. More are coming for Terraforming update!
NEW HAND CRAFTING
The interaction with hand crafting recipes is now simplified. Each recipe is directly accessible in the menu. Select the multiplication button before pressing recipe to craft x1, x5 or x25 items!
REAL AUTOPILOT
Autopilot before the update allowed you to control all thrusters at once, selecting the direction you want to move. You had to be very precise to match station velocity to reach planets. With the new Autopilot technology, you can simply pick stations/planets to go there!
STARGATE STATION TRAVEL
It's now possible to take space station to another dimension! Before going though the Stargate you have the choice to leave it behind or bring it with you!
IMPROVED LOGIC
Timer pusher is now improved, allowing to push item from conveyor belt to machines setting a specific time. Splitters are also improved: they check what resource has been pushed, making the mix of resources split independently and equally. For example: 9 carbon+ 9 gold will guarantee to have 3 for each direction (left, right, forward).
COPY AND PASTE ATTRIBUTES
Copying and pasting functionality was the most wanted feature. It allows to copy and paste device attributes. It's very handy when it comes to disable many devices, changing recipes or visuals like edges for many floors at once. Furthermore, it also supports pick element, so it will be possible to pick a device and paste it with all settings preserved.
DECORATIONS ROTATE/SCALE
Each decoration and decal can be rotated and scaled via [E] menu. Morover, the new function copy and paste attributes, makes decorations having the same look and size!
IMPROVED MULTIPLAYER API
It's now possible to use JOIN/INVITE for both dedicated servers and player servers. You can join your friends automatically.
BLUEPRINTS IMPROVEMENTS
Blueprint Designer is allowing to modify device attributes. You can configure devices, logic blocks and visual style for your blueprints before constructing them!
FOOD EFFECT
Different types of food affects speed and energy of astronauts.
We have some very exciting news to share with you: a new mystery adventure game starring Detective Grimoire and Sally is coming in 2024! There's a demo out now, and you can wishlist here:
In "The Mermaid's Tongue", the detective duo have been called to investigate the murder of Magnus Mortuga, captain of the world's strangest submarine. Found alone in a locked room, with only an ancient stone cauldron to suggest how he might have died, it's up to Detective Grimoire and Sally to piece together what really happened. Was it a curse, released from the cauldron? One of the submarine's eccentric crew? Or does the bizarre truth run even deeper...
The Tangle Tower dev team is back, and we have a few additions too! As well as all of SFB Games (that's, uh, me and my brother Adam), we have Catherine Unger's amazing environment art, Jonathan Harris' fluid character animations, and Raphael B. Meyer's stunning orchestral score. And of course, Edwyn Tiong and Amber Lee Connors are back as Grimoire and Sally. The suspects are a secret for now, we'll have more to share soon.
Joining us this time, we also have Kindra Dantone, who has done incredible work to realise the clues in full 3D this time! And Kitt Byrne, who's been bringing her wonderful illustration style to the puzzles - Kitt worked with us on Snipperclips too, so it's great to have her back!
We were so very excited to be able to first announce this new game as part of Double Fine's and iam8bit's Day of the Devs festival (The Game Awards edition!) - Adam and I got to travel from chilly London to LA to show the game (and our other upcoming game, Crow Country) in person to press and the public. The response there, and in general, has been overwhelming, what a perfect end to the year! Here's the preview video that was shown in the Day of the Devs digital showcase stream:
That's it from us for now, we'll have lots more to share next year! So go play the demo, please wishlist, and I hope you have a lovely and restful end to 2023!
