Zet Zillions Playtest - Paulie Don't Surf


Before you dive into the notes we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has joined us for the playtest so far. You have given us feedback on the first build, come to our discord, wishlisted our game and have shared it with your friends and family, and for that we are eternally grateful.

The whole team is so excited to be on this journey for a second time around and we really want to make a big splash with Zet Zillions. Your feedback is critical in helping us make this the best possible version of the game.

With that, we are going to step down for a well deserved rest over the holidays so expect relative silence for the next two weeks. But before we go, here's a meaty patch based on the feedback you have provided to us so far.

First Freaking Patch


v0.6.2d-85 - December 20, 2023

- This patch focuses on fixing some of the main issues present in the game. It also adds a bit of new content with some little balancing changes!

Additions:
New cards

- Tortoise Ship: Unplayable
- Tortoise Bomber: Battle fusion, deal 6x2 damage random
- Tortoise Dropship: Battle fusion, add 6x2 population random
- Proliferate: Pulverize, double population on target
- Trash Star: Unplayable, on draw deal 5 damage to all enemies
- Trash Ganger: Populate 4, increase population by 4

New event
- Grinder: your personal card shredder! Can be found on act three (no art for now, sorry guys!)

Changes:

Cards
- Removed draw one card effect from “Grinder”
- “Animal” is now an Exile card, and not Innate
- “Trash Settler” is now an Exile card
- “Trash Charger” now doesn’t lose 5 damage when played
- New art for cards: “Birdie”, “Void Vulture” and “Blast Troopers”
- Added “Plunder Squad”, “Blast Troopers” and “Cometeers” on the pool of possible cards in the Dok Shop

Effects
- Spike will not activate if the one dealing damage is also the target
- Spike will not activate if the damage comes from a trait
- Spike damage will not increase by other effects like strength or vulnerable

Map
- New hidden event for population cards
- New mutation results: “Trash Star” and “Trash Ganger”
- “Gaia’s Ritual” can now be found in act two
- “Trash Cannon” trait now can appear as reward after defeating act one boss
- “Trash Cannon” trait was removed from the “Junk Hunt” event

Quality of life
- Now the game doesn’t open with a DEAFENING volume!
- End turn input changed from “Left Shift” to “Left Alt
- Poison damage will now ignore shields
- Mission “Get rid of cards” now updates during battle
- Improvements in card descriptions and tooltips
- Changed icons from cooldown skills

Enemies
- Queen Hive: Removed “Pheromones” skill and vulnerable skill during phase one
- Pangarula: Now acts faster and attacks more often
- Colossus: Armor buffed from 20 to 30
- Colossus: Auto armor skill has been modified to damage 10 armor 15
- Rhino Buzzard: Review on its skills
- Rhino Buzzard: Added spiked trait icon
- Rhino Buzzard: Creates shits “Dung Piles” more often
- Ghost Sniper: Tweaked skills and behavior so it is now more predictable (and also more deadly x.x)
- Sad Star: Tweaked behavior to be easier to defeat and less annoying with status effects
- Sad Star: Changes on her battle dialogues (she’s gloomy now)
- Chad Star: Flex skill increased from 3 strength to 6 strength
- Chad Star: New art for body shot cards
- Planet Aiko: Changed skills so it is more obvious that the player must hurt it before colonizing it
- Wasps: Tweaked so the remaining wasp will now put up a fight!
- Hunk: Now more prone to use armor bash
- Hunk: Hits harder and gains more armor
- Hunk: Does not split into “Lil Stone” anymore, since this only made the battle longer and more boring
- Mosquito: Encounters are now less common
- Mosquito: Changed sap skill to make it less annoying
- Fixed UI positions for “Crybaby” and “Geckoball”

- Fixed some typos
- Fixed “Void Vulture” card description
- Fixed a bug where permanent spike effect didn’t showed the correct value
- Fixed a bug where Dok Shop price tag colors didn’t updated correctly when the player removed a card
- Fixed a bug where the player could get stuck during the tutorial
- Fixed a bug where the player could have no inputs at the map after completing the tutorial
- Fixed a bug where the colonization icon activated when defeating non-planet enemies
- Fixed a bug with tooltips in the Zillionspedia
- Fixed a bug where some screens had their scroll slider not working
- Fixed a bug where promotions didn’t load their arts correctly in the reward screen
- Fixed a bug where cards created by a trait weren’t loaded correctly
- Fixed a bug where the value of cards in the discard pile didn’t updated correctly when cloning a card
- Fixed a bug with the moment of execution of the “Trash Star” card
- Fixed a visual bug with the “Frag-a-Jam” card
- Fixed a bug where the amount of shields in the player or enemy wouldn’t update correctly
- Fixed a bug where the unlocked cards weren’t unlocked on the next runs (it was all a lie!)
- Fixed a bug where “Gaia’s Ritual” results couldn’t fuse with grinder
- Fixed a bug where when winning a battle, the game wouldn’t properly execute card and trait effects before the battle ends if they get executed in the last action
- Game analytics initializing correctly now (tasty data yum!)



Detailed info

The spike effect interactions were tweaked to avoid weird situations like the player using the card “Bash” while having spikes causing the player to hit themselves two times! :D
There are traits in the game that activate when the player does a common action. For example, the “Collateral” trait deals damage on enemy armor everytime the player gains armor. If the player had this trait when fighting an enemy with spikes, the player is discouraged to use armor because of the trait's behavior. To avoid situations like this

Hapland Trilogy - foon
  • Fixed a bug in Hapland 1 Second Quest where the landmine would not behave properly if knocked down into the cave.
  • Fixed a bug where the introductory "what to do" hint was not shown before playing Hapland 1, instead showing a black screen for the equivalent amount of time.
  • Fixed general bugginess of the "Toggle Full Screen" option.
  • Fixed a bug where the audio would skip or sounds would cut off early on some computers.
  • Fixed a bug on the "Complete" screen where the decorative black zigzags had accidentally been made 1% transparent.

Hey all!!

I'm really excited to announce that Zeepkist: Crash 2D has finally launched!



Zeepkist: Crash 2D is a web game that's available on Poki.com!


The mechanics are similar to "dismount" type games: You crash your zeepkist and try to rack up as many points as possible, which you can use to buy new zeepkists, hats, levels, and obstacles!

It's entirely free, and is monetized by letting players watch ads!

Q: What is this?
A: A new game by me!




Q: Why did you make another game?
A: Poki reached out to me about a year and a half ago to see if I was interested in publishing to web platforms. I didn't have anything to put on Poki at the time (Zeepkist itself is far too big for that of course).

Later, however, I was playing around with 2D physics and made this little game, and I decided to get in touch with Poki to see if they were interested in this little thing I was making. And they were!

My biggest motivation for putting time and effort into this is because I'm curious if small games-on-the-side like this can make money, which I need to live. And I'm especially curious if this can give me an additional income stream that might be a bit more steady than Steam. It's also smart not to put all of your eggs into one basket.

Another, smaller, motivation is that I'm curious to see if this will raise Zeepkist "brand awareness". Maybe people will play Zeepkist 2D on Poki, google Zeepkist or come across it on Youtube, and decide to give Zeepkist a try!





Q: Did this take time away from developing Zeepkist?
A: Yes! Absolutely, solo-developing two games at the same time is not easy. But I hope it will pay off in the end and all be worth it :)


Q: What's next?
A: Back to work on Zeepkist v16! Development on Zeepkist continued throughout development of Zeepkist 2D, as you might have noticed from the devlogs and patches!

I'm curious to see how well Zeepkist 2D does. If it makes sense for me to make more web games I'll absolutely think about doing that. At the end of the day I still need to pay rent! :D

Good Day Marauders!



We have a small patch/hotfix to deal with new issues that came from our recent major update "GUILDS 1.0".

It's been great seeing everyone jump in and take full advantage of the new features we added and the feedback has been invaluable that being said we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break!

Here are the patch notes in full:




  • Attempted fix for the fade in during the start of match not ending resulting in a black screen
  • fixed an issue that was preventing the colony cruiser from spawning
  • Addressed a problem that would have members of a crew lose their equipped ship when going in with someone else as a captain
  • Mac-10's recoil was hard set lower than other SMGs causing it to be extremely low with attachments this is now more in-line with other SMGs (with and without attachments).
  • The commando major now has the correct german voice lines
  • Addressed an issue that would provide high stamina regain with blowtorches and fire extinguishers



  • Planet killer raider mode now has a better distribution of player spawn points
  • Commando Major now always spawns inside the capital ship
  • All high rate of fire weaponry (700 or above) now have larger hip firing spread over time/per shot, this has affected the PPSH, Mac-10, Klobb and Krasa. (We always want to resist from making weapons weaker and make them more rare instead but we felt this was a good middle ground since these weapons keep their effectiveness whilst ADS)
  • Up to 4 Raider bosses can now spawn on NPC ships, the scout and interceptor. (these are now classed as raider ships)
  • NPC Ships (raiders) now target pods approaching (you have been warned!) and the raiders inside can remain healed during bombardments requiring breaching to kill the crew
  • Higher tier weapons have been reduced in the common loot pool
  • 2 new additional raider bosses added, the china lake and trenchgun variants. (only on raider ships)
