Greetings, Ironlords.

We are proud to announce that after months of hard work and some brutal city restoration, IRONHIVE joins Steam, and we can finally share the details with all of you!

What Is IRONHIVE?

IRONHIVE is a deck building strategy game about surviving in a dying world. As the Ironlord, it falls on you to build your colony amidst death and destruction, expand and sustain your population, and leave a worthy legacy to pass on to the future.



Here are some of the things you can expect from your stay in the Colony:

  • Build Your Colony: erect living and utility quarters, create structures required for production, defense, and social cohesion. If you do not provide the required resources and stability, prepare for imminent collapse.
  • Manage Your Deck: Use the hand you’ve been dealt wisely. Each turn represents a season you survived, and stability is quickly lost if you don’t play it smart.
  • Take In the Palpable Atmosphere: Enjoy the thick brushstrokes of the game’s art and feel the oppressive and desolate mood of your city.
  • Explore a Ruthless World: Send out expeditions to the Wasteland in search of vital resources, technologies, and items. The sweeter the reward, the higher the risks involved.
  • Secure Your Legacy: Use the Book of Ashes to write down your people’s history. Choose cultural or historical characteristics that will influence your colonies, giving you new talents or bonuses. Choose wisely.
  • Weave Your Story: Each decision directly impacts your fate. All narrative events are interconnected, weaving into a rich history for each of your Colonies. Stay sharp: don’t let the world’s changes creep onto you and deal with crises accordingly. Ruin is always one bad decision away.

AN ERA OF AMBITION AND OPPORTUNITY

During this Golden Age of Piracy, intrepid freebooters seek their fortune upon the high seas, black-sailed marauders prey upon Spanish treasure ships returning from the New World, and opportunistic privateers, emboldened by their ‘letters of marque’ reap the profits of war from their influential patrons.

At the centre of this cutthroat world lies the 'Republic of Pirates', a powerful league of pirate clans bound together by their shared ambitions and code of honour. But while the early days of the confederacy were prosperous, greed and jealousy soon began to spread culminating in a vicious mutiny and final bloody breakup. It now falls upon your shoulders to set out to reclaim your father’s legacy and bring justice to the traitors who wronged you!



FINDING PARADISE

In 'Republic of Pirates' you’ll be tasked with founding a modest outpost on a remote Caribbean island and growing it into a sprawling pirate settlement with a self-sustaining economy. Construct production buildings such as sugar plantations and rum distilleries to cultivate and refine resources, and distribute goods via a network of couriers, warehouses, and black markets to increase the wealth of your citizens.

Visit the inn to recruit talented captains and utilise the shipyard to build up a powerful fleet before taking to the waves in the name of conquest. Command your ships in real-time as you plunder merchant vessels, clash with rival pirate clans, and liberate islands to add to your burgeoning republic. Expand your reach while shrewdly navigating complex diplomatic relationships with influential trading companies, and rise above the global superpowers of the time!

Today's patch brings tangible combat improvements and addresses the latest feedback in various aspects. For the next update, we are preparing new Survival content, crafting elements, a trading system, and more.


Let's take a look!


Combat Control Update



First of all, the click-attack remains and is incorporated into the updated system.

Simultaneously, it allows you to hold the attack button to enter a controlled stance mode and perform attacks in a manner we were testing before, but improved.

As you move the cursor, it controls both stances blending and inverse kinematics. When you move it a certain radius, you perform an attack in the corresponding direction, and aim at your target. It's akin to swinging with your mouse or drawing an attack.


Dynamic Turn Caps

We updated the turn caps to make the combat more controllable and weightier.

Different actions activate different turn caps. When holding the attack button while entering stance mode, it's one turn cap, when the attack in this mode begins, it's another. When attacking by clicking, it's also a different turn cap.

The goal is to make it easier to aim, track enemies, and land attacks without excessive camera movement.

It also makes special attacks easier to perform accurately, and chopping becomes a more satisfying process.


Improved Accuracy In Attack Angles

The attack angle is now being tracked more accurately, so you may notice that the performed attacks align more closely with your desired direction, especially when holding down the attack button.


Block Update



Now it's possible to activate the block almost instantly. Keep in mind that it doesn't activate when you are in a hit reaction. When it allows you to block, your task is to choose the direction correctly, which is quite intuitive when you try to aim at the attacking blade.

The block animations have been adjusted and new angles have been added, making it more diverse. This also allows and requires better precision.


Archery Update

Increased arrow damage and headshot damage multiplier.

Slowed arrow flying speed, now, it and its trace are more visible in flight.

Improved string pullback - feels more satisfying.


Improved Ragdolls

Added ragdoll bleeding on hit.

Viking ragdolls are now more stable, still not perfect, but they are no longer thrown far away when walked over. They fall more naturally after a death hit.

Animal ragdolls have also been adjusted, they will need more work as they can still be thrown in certain cases, but the jittering has been significantly reduced.


Solo Deathmatch Options



Added first options allowing the selection of enemies for single-player Deathmatch: 1 melee, 3 melee, 3 melee & 2 archers.

Also, added a slow-motion option in single-player Deathmatch – hold the T button.


Resource Balance

Decreased the wood amount obtained from hitting trees. Ensured a more accurate proportion between big and small trees. Smaller trees will no longer fall from two hits.

Decreased the amount of iron obtained from hitting ore.

Increased the amount of stone acquired from hitting rocks.

Increased the quantity of meat and fat obtained from each animal.


Tree Chopping Update

Added noticeable tree shakes on hit.

Fixed holes under the trees. Some got roots.

Max wood stack is set to 100.

Fixed issues with some actions, such as dodge, not working with the timber axe.


Karvi Improvements

The ship is now faster, easier to rotate, and shouldn't bend too much when rotating.


Weather Probabilities

Tweaked further for a sunnier summer, less rain and more clouds during autumn.


Addressed Deer Issues

Adjusted it's chasing distance, so the deer should stalk you less now, just drive it away, if it's still annoying, let us know.

Adjusted its footsteps sounds and reduced attenuation.

Repositioned deer around the map and slightly reduced their numbers.


Fixed Animals Hitting Invisible Collisions

The issue of an animal biting or hitting an invisible wall in front of it has been fixed.

Just a quick note we will be holding a closed Beta testing and content creators event on Sat Dec 16th. The time is oriented to cover both Europe and North America as best we are able.

There will however be limited openings as our ability to manage a larger event would be a bit overwhelming at the moment. We expect to give access to approx 200 players maximum for the coming session.

Islands of the Caliph - MKSchmidt
Firstly let me apologize for any confusion with this update. The update requires starting a new game. If I could have, I would have prevented this but alas, it was unavoidable.

However, if you really want to continue your current game, I have provided a legacy version 1.1.7, which you can access via: "Islands of the Caliph > Properties > Betas" and select "version1.1.7" from the drop-down menu.

If you really want to continue your current game in the updated game, this is also possible, but your maps may get messed up due to changes in the update. Scroll down for instructions on how to do this...

What's New?
Several new features and fixes have bee implemented.

Achievements
Steam Achievements are now active in the new version. 15 Steam Achievements are ready for you to enjoy.

Stair Issue Addressed
Some stairs in the game were exhibiting very strange behavior. I believe all of these have been fixed. You should be able to go up stairs without this weird behavior now.

Necromancer Bug
The Necromancer fight had a bug where it would disappear if you saved and loaded the game after the combat began, but prior to defeating him. This should now be resolved.

Torch Issue
The torch was having an issue freezing when passing between areas. This should no longer happen.

Map Icons
Some icons for mosques, caretakers and trainers were not showing up on the map. they should all now appear as intended.

How to Update your Game
If you really want to update your current game to work with the latest version, it is inadvisable. However, I don't believe it will cause any game breaking bugs. Your maps may get a little messed up if you do this, and I am not sure if or how it will work with Steam achievements, so please don't say I didn't warn you.

To do it, go to "C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Islands_of_the_Caliph\Save_*#*"

Where *YOUR USERNAME* is your actual username on your computer.
And *#* is the save slot number of your game.

Open your game folder and find the "save.txt" file.

In that file the first few lines will look like this:

SAVED GAME: 2,
Version 1.1.7,
INVENTORY,

Simply change the second line like this:

SAVED GAME: 2,
Version 1.2.0,
INVENTORY,

And then save the file. Now you will be able to load your old game in the new version.

Last Time
I do not like making promises I cannot keep. However, I do not foresee any other changes going forward that will require starting a new game. This should be the last time this is necessary.
