Hows it going everyone? It’s time for a monthly update. This month has been a bit more frustrating than the past two sad to say. I tried to focus on getting the fishing part of the game done. At first I found a lot of difficulty with just getting the basic level setup in Godot... Then had some set backs. The hook and fish interaction initially had some crazy results.

Thankfully I was able to find out the issue was caused by constant collision between the hook and fish.
Another breakthrough and pain point was figuring out a way to create separate. ponds that I can track and the player can interact. As in the original each pond with be its own and you can add fish and take away fish from each. Creating these ponds would cause a long freeze while building the initial map but after a couple of days of tweaking and experimenting I was able to get rid of this delay.

Eventually I got a pretty decent version running. It needs to be tuned a little so catching fish is a little easier but overall its not bad.

But now for some bad news. I have ended up taking out clothing for the time being. The way I am doing it is not working and its gotten more complicated with the fishing game. So for now I have to take them out.

Additionally I spent time updating the craft book more and creating a bit of a “Alien Language”. Not sure, what I’ll do exactly but it at least looks cool.

Feels like less progress this month but still something got done. Despite this I did spend some time polishing, added random npcs and items as you walk, hunting for bugs. There is still a lot to do, sound, npc behaviors, achievements and the list goes on. But little by little we will get there. I got death figured out in the game too. Almost forgot to mention that but really who wants to think about death? So its best to save it for the end, just like in life. And on that note!

Graphical Updates


No stone unturned:
Even the name giving snowdrifts have finally found their way into Snowdriftland, as well as other upgraded decorations like snow cacti, bushes, crystals... Chubbo... Each area has something new to offer!

From the ground up:
The backgrounds now have more depth and detail: Giant ice floes rise into the sky, trees are ripped out of the ground and massive stalactites grow from cave ceilings!

How effective:
Watch out! New environmental effects have been added to the stages - like snowfall and fog. If you're lucky and pay attention you might be able to wish upon a star...


Additional Patchnotes
  • Chubby and his opponents enjoyed a proper clean up and have updated sprites.
  • Level 1 has been adjusted to better fit a rising difficulty curve.
  • The snowcrawler is also rocking a new snowy look.
  • Confused about what Level you're in? New Intros and UI Elements show you where you are at any time!
  • The graphics and the animation for the chest have been improved.
  • The amount of hearts that appear in Boss stages now depend on how many Bonus Containers you have collected.
  • You now collect hearts only when necessary.
  • Map paths have been optimized.
  • Enjoy new music inside the Base and the Backer's Lounge

What's this...
In the meantime the science team will get back to inspecting another point of interest... Maybe they'll be able to unveil the one or other... never before found... excellently hidden... Secret area?! Stay tuned for more next year!

First Person Shooter - darkthunderinc


FPS: First Person Shooter will now allow for a single player experience with the addition of bots to its free-for-all mode. This marks the beginning of the next phase of development and testing, making it possible to test more quickly and have smaller groups test independently. Up until this point FPS could only be properly tested by large group play sessions with Version Number: Fritz, that will no longer be a requirement.

-Smoothed the network motion effects to reduce jittering of player objects
-Fixed all players being able to see everyone’s aim line.
-Improved network communication for bullet impact and force application on soccer ball
-Implemented new potential fix for Kill Log issues of both players trading kills when only one should be awarded. (This time for sure)
-Fixed Player joining mind match not seeing players with proper team colors.
-Fixed Aiming area for all maps
-Fixed Ready/Start Button lobby issue
-Fixed player spawning into floor with no body and not being able to move
-Fixed hidden maps appearing on initial lobby load.

-Added an end buzzer kazoo sound
-Added an altitude limit to the soccer ball
-Adjusted the weight of dead bodies in order to allow players to move through the dead rather than get stuck.
