TRACHI – ANARCHY - nory
Howdy-ho, friends! 🤗

At long last, ANARCHY's second update is finally here.
There's so much to cover – and so little time.

Let's jump in!
Development of 0.1.2 revolved around three primary goals: Implementing the first set of InvAsion scenes, reworking ExcommunicAtion's Phase 4 and adding mountains of content to ParAdise. I'm very proud to announce all three milestones were met!🎉 In addition, there's general UI improvements alongside a prototype for cosmetic VariAtions, topped off by a new patch-wide challenge.

Top to Bottom

The first thing you'll notice is that there's two new achievements. One of them – eerily similar to the picture above – sports the faces of Icarus and Ganymede. There's a story between these two. And I think it's time for us to admit we know how it went. For the duration of this patch, I'd love to see people recreate this particular scene. 👀

Method

In a continued effort to polish ExcommunicAtion, Phase 4 underwent a slight rework. Going forward, Ariadne will do her best to set you up. All her efforts go into a devastating arena-wide spell that reduces the HP of all targets to 1. Afterwards, the stage is yours.

Tact

On a related note, all stats have been carefully readjusted for each individual phase. Attacks feel a lot more deadly and the phases themselves flow a bit quicker. Naturally, this also has an effect on ParAdise. Enemies generally live longer, but Equipment makes a much bigger difference now.

LiberAtion

To kickstart Lorna's adventures, she'll now receive a weapon through a little event just a couple of steps away from the initial spawning point. And since Lorna's story is all about taking matters into her own hands, she now gets to wield a very special axe. 🪓

Goblins

In addition to an overall stats and loot table reworks, a tribe of Goblins intend to cause big trouble in little ParAdise. They're not all too clever, yet. But word on the street is, they'll learn to coordinate, soon. Until then, feel free to hack away at them as much you please. Though be advised that they're already a lot stronger than the other enemies you've faced.

Frontier

The tiles of Paradise's first map have been massively reworked. Hilltops now have their own distinctive color and the ground is in general is much less busy on the eyes. Trees have been repositioned to allow for smoother movement across the map. Next to a lot more props all over the place, the outside parts of a toll-house now overlook the river separating north from south.

Black Market

If you've been looking for a way to spend your Polygons, Ari's got your back! From consumables to starter equipment, she loves nothing more than sorting you out. There's rumors she even temporarily got her hands on some special stuff. 👀

Ostrakon

Oftentimes in history, we see the past only through little fragments here and there. It's for us to connect these bits and pieces in an effort to make sense of it. Although the old word is lost, it's not forgotten. On the contrary! Like a present, it's waiting to unwrap itself in front you.

Nostalgia

Interacting with Fragments triggers an old world memory. Players get to witness a moment in TRACHI's history, currently represented by a collection of InvAsion scenes. They offer a snapshot of a moment in the character's previous lives. The characters get to remember, and you get to find something out about them. And maybe, you get to keep a little souvenir.

NavigAtion

Sometimes things don't go as planned. Sometimes you'd rather be somewhere else. Going forward, you can return to the Start Menu (almost) whenever you please. As a bonus, the chapter selection has also received a slight visual rework.

VariAtion

They say: "Clothes make the man". Does that go for fictional people, too? In ANARCHY, characters are represented as base classes with a whole set of different VariAtions. At the moment, the system itself is mostly used within Fragment Scenes. Though I'd love for you to have additional options for customization, too!

Field Trial

As a thank you to the absolute awesome bunch of people that invested their valuable time to overcome ExcommunicAtion during 0.1.1, a new skin is now available for Daphne. Going forward, I'd like to at least include one VariAtion per patch. These will be tied to a monthly challenge represented by a special achievements.

Vanguard

If you like what you see and haven't completed ExcommunicAtion yet – don't worry! There'll be plenty more opportunities to grab this cosmetic down the line. Beyond potential reruns, there are also plans to couple VariAtions with Steam's Inventory System and thus open the door for trading, buying/selling on the market and/or purchase the item as a DLC.

Conclusion

As you can see, there's tons of elements going into ANARCHY. It's my responsibility to not only work on these segments, but also tie them together in a meaningful way. Your presence helps me to discern essential features from flavor stuff – and serves as a continuous encouragement for me to keep going.

As such, I'd like to – once again – thank you so much for all the support! 😊

I hope you'll enjoy this update as another big leap forward to transform the world of TRACHI into a video game. I'll be back soon to talk more about the next milestone – henceforth known as ANARCHY 0.1.3 (Marché). In the meantime, here's to you having a great couple of weeks! 🍻

Big hugs and kissies! 🥰

much love

Sands of Aura - Chashu Entertainment
Welcome back Knights-To-Be,
As we come to day four of our countdown to version 1.0, we hope you’re beginning to feel the excitement. To distract ourselves and in an attempt to make the time go just a little bit faster, we’d like to continue regaling you with the tale of our development journey.

Epic Megagrants…
With a new year (2019) came a new GDC and this time we were coming in with realistic goals and realistic expectations. Our purpose was not to show anyone our project but rather to learn from other developers and connect with them. It had also been about 6 months since we’d all last saw each other in person, so this conference quickly became part reunion and part research.

After spending a year analyzing our own failings, we had begun to recognize the weaknesses in our craft. With these in mind, we attended a variety of specific talks, interesting round tables, inspiring meetings, really anything that could be related to the areas of development we needed to improve. The goal was to learn as much as we could and to keep an eye out for any opportunities that would allow us to level up further.

It was at this particular GDC that Epic announced a new commitment to their program, the Epic Megagrant, which was an initiative aimed at providing financial support to projects deemed innovative, creative, and noteworthy. Obviously, they garnered a lot of attention from everyone in the indie community. We knew immediately that Project Terrarium needed to be part of this.

After the conference, the planning for our Epic Megagrant submission began immediately. Within a week we had decided on our short term goals and we began development on yet another demo. We had one year.

The Name of Sands of Aura…
While quickly approaching the one year mark, we realized the name Terrarium was growing stale. It was intimately connected to our early designs, but many of those had been either heavily altered or removed entirely. The game had changed, it had grown. We needed a new name more in line with what our project had become. There were a lot of ideas. There was a lot of brainstorming. But eventually one stood above the rest.

With a new name and a new demo, work began on our first teaser trailer. Looking back on it now, this was the emotional moment our studio realized we were on to something special, and it’s the moment where we got to see just how far we’d come since beginning development in 2017. The first teaser was completed at the end of 2019. You can view it here.

But at this point, we finally had something that we were proud to showcase. Something that we believed lived up to our expectations. We submitted Sands of Aura to Epic MegaGrants on February 10th of 2020.

Now the challenge was waiting…

The Atmosphere of Aura…
With morale high and the stress of submission deadlines temporarily lifted, we turned again to analyzing other areas of our project that need more improvement.

At this stage in development, we felt our game lacked the immersive-ness of the RPG’s that we all greatly admired. Our Creative Director had written a fantastic base of lore for us to build from. His wireframes gave us our island concepts and multiple character motivations that paved the way for further design, but something was still missing.

Many elements add to the atmosphere of a game. From lighting and visual effects to ambient audio, to realistic sound effects, each of these can elevate an experience. But we needed something more to help heighten the mood and the emotion of our world. We need a writer and we need a composer.

New Companions…
As fate would have it, we stumbled upon a brilliant composer in the form of Eduardo L! From his first soundtrack to his last, Eduardo’s compositions have elevated our game to new heights. He quickly became a trusted addition to our small team.

Finding a writer proved much more difficult for us because no matter how great a writer someone is, if they don’t sync with the intended vision of your game, it quickly creates major problems. However, after a long search, we found Henry K.

Henry, and his ability to expand upon what little was given to him, was exactly what we were looking for. He was a fantastic wordsmith and he helped take the bones of our world and give them color. Many of the early characters, their way of speech, the world in which they interacted were expanded upon by Henry. He was a significant boon during the early development of Sands of Aura.

With Eduardo and Henry along for the journey, our team was ready to take the next step and plan for an Early Access release.

We knew releasing Sands of Aura into Early Access would be a risk, but our goal was to get players into our world, to get their hands on the gameplay as soon as possible. We knew we had a fun game and that our world was engaging, but we also knew that we couldn’t see everything and that the feedback from a community of players would be invaluable to truly expanding our vision into something great.

Spreading the word…
Marketing for an indie game is challenging. It is no secret that with numerous titles crowding store fronts, it is difficult for any game to stand out. While at first we believed that we could handle this on our own, we quickly discovered that marketing wasn’t a skill we readily possessed, nor was it one we could dedicate a lot of time to learning.

So, we enlisted the aid of a PR company to get us started. We already had a Discord and multiple social media accounts in operation but none were being managed to maximize their effectiveness. With the PR company taking over the marketing reins, we set our sights on our next goal: getting our game into the hands of players!

Steam Game Festival…
Autumn had just passed and with it went the Autumn Game Festival on Steam. Our goal was to be a part of the next one and so we set our sights on having a playable demo ready by February.

The next few months of development were hectic to say the least. There were major crashes, major blocking bugs, inputs that wouldn’t register, nonexistent frame rates. Each of these issues compounded day by day, and with the looming deadline, let’s just say that this was by far the most stressful experience of development for our team. On top of this, we’re only human and we couldn’t help but be plagued by doubt. We were terrified of player perception, terrified again of not living up to standards.

After a period of crunch and a few sleepless nights (something we always try to avoid), we managed to not only get things stabilized but we felt like the demo was actually fun to play! After a nerve wracking submission, the next couple of days offered us a breath of fresh air as Sands of Aura was out! At least in temporary form. It was such a fun experience to finally see others playing our game, uploading videos, streaming it and discussing it on social media.

And luckily, people liked it! Even in its imperfect state. Before the Steam Game Festival our wishlist numbers were in the low hundreds, but after they had grown by over 12k! This was an amazing milestone for our small studio and was validation that we were making the right choices.

Next time we’ll discuss our publisher journey, what it was like bringing our game to E3 and other events, our Early Access launch, and the creation of our wonderful discord community.

HereSphere VR Video Player - HereSphere
HereSphere update v0.9.6 for PC is now available on the Steam default branch. This update adds DirectShow playback with support for VapourSynth/Smooth Video Project for realtime motion interpolation and better playback compatibility.

DirectShow:
  • To use the DirectShow player backend, download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack, and then go to the HereSphere user settings, and switch the player backend to "DirectShow".
  • DirectShow offers much better codec compatibility than Media Foundation, so try switching to it if you have playback issues.
  • In order to use Smooth Video Project with HereSphere, you'll need to setup VapourSynth. Install and update SVP, making sure that VapourSynth is selected for installation. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SVP 4\avsf, right click the register.bat file, and run as administrator. In the HereSphere user settings, set the "VapourSynth Max Megapixels" setting to the max number of megapixels in a video where you want VapourSynth to be enabled. There are performance penalties for having VapourSynth enabled, so I'd recommend setting it to below 8.4MP. With an RTX4090 and an i9-13900k, I'm able to get 120fps realtime motion interpolation on 4k videos with SVP.
  • The default audio renderer doesn't support pitch correction with playback speed changes. If you want this feature, download the MPC-BE standalone filters, and then register the MpcAudioRenderer.ax file. Message me on the HereSphere discord channel for an install.bat file you can use to register the filter. This filter has some audio artifacts when playing multiple videos simultaneously, though.
  • This update is still a work in progress, so please message me if you encounter any issues.
  • K-Lite Codec Pack: https://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
  • MPC-BE standalone filters: https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/files/MPC-BE/Release%20builds/
  • SVP: https://www.svp-team.com/

Other changes:
  • Added script heatmaps. The heatmap opacity can be adjusted in the synchronized peripherals menu.
  • Added "_SBS" to file name detection, which will set stereo mode to side-by-side (left-right).
  • Fixed bookmarks menu overflow
  • Controllers are also hidden when using the "Auto Hide Menu" feature (using grip button to adjust a setting causes menu to automatically be hidden until grip is released).

B-17 Flying Fortress : The Mighty 8th Redux - Sérgio Costa (MicroProse)
Welcome aboard followers, new and old.

In this short dev blog, we are giving you a glimpse of the cockpit, answering more of your questions and we have a few new comic pages for you.

The cockpit: A work in progress

We are excited to share a work in progress render of the cockpit.

Questions from Discord

Our community manager has continued to gather questions from our followers on Discord (link) and other social locations. I’ve put those questions to the developers, and I’ve got another round of answers for you.

Are the ground textures and terrain getting updated?

The ground textures are all procedurally generated so we're hoping to improve then. The terrain may get slight improvements through increased triangle counts.

Will we still be able to customize the skins and nose-art for our bombers like before?

Yes, there will be a selection of nose art to choose from

Will the formations increase in size?

Yes, the goal is to increase the formation sizes but how much will depend on performance.

The Regensburg Raid Part 2

Ok, on the comic front we have done a little bit of renumbering as we have added a “Introductory page” this page focuses on Beirne Lay Jr, whose work you will likely be familiar with as a writer and maritime documentarian. You may have even seen his name appear in the credits of movies in television shows you’ve watched over the years – I’m showing my age here.

For those of you who missed pages 2 through 4, you can find them in our first blog, these pages have been updated and are worth a revisit.

We are pleased to share page 5 now.

Masters of the Air

In other exciting B17 news, how great is it to see that “Masters of the Air” will be coming to Apple TV in the new year. If you have not had a chance to read the press release, you can find it here.

Until Next Time,

Keep those questions coming and let your friends know we’re back!

Rust - Errn
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The Halloween events are now enabled! Once roughly every two in-game days, a candy hunt event will begin. You'll have 3 minutes to collect as many candies as you can. The top 3 players are given special loot bags as a reward. These candies and loot bags can be opened for various types of loot ranging from scrap all the way up to an M249!

If you don't make the podium, that's okay. The candies you collect can be upgraded for better loot.

There are various items available to help you during your hunt. The Pumpkin Bucket will allow instant pickup of candies and the Scarecrow Wrap and Ghost Costume will provide you with an advantage via Candy Vision.

The Halloween event will run until November 2nd.

Have fun!

GRHRRR..

What to do with all them body parts? Let's build a monster! To start building your own monster, first, you must slay scarecrows and mummies that roam the lands. Once you've collected a head, torso and legs, craft yourself a Frankenstein's table and place the body parts within the table.

Awaken your new pet monster and control it by pressing "P".

The monster will follow your orders without question. It'll follow you around the map, defend you if attacked and help slay foes you wish to attack.

If you're having trouble accessing the pet menu or already have a key bound to "P" then use the following console command: bind X +pets or open the in-game controls menu.

THE RIFTS

Cultists are said to have been opening portals throughout the world, others believe it's a Cobalt experiment code-named R.U.I.N gone horribly wrong. Not much is known about these portals or what they do, only a few chads have entered and made it back alive.

Do you dare to enter?

Server owners can adjust the portal count using the halloweendungeon.population convar.

NEW HALLOWEEN ITEMS

This year we've added three new Halloween-themed items, one purchasable and two free.

Dracula Mask & Cape
Purchasable this year is the Dracula mask. The mask offers early-game head protection and requires ten pieces of cloth to craft.

The cape is a robustly thick outer garment that provides superior protection to the wearer. Capes can be found on the corpses of the undead.

Wooden Stake
A stake adorned with unique properties makes it able to release the soul of undead creatures with a single strike and yield extra loot from their remains.

Stakes can be found on the corpses of the undead.

HALLOWEEN COMPETITION

HALLOWEEN ITEMS

Last years Halloween items have been raised from the dead, head over to the Rust item store.

Hockey Facemask
Hide your facial deformities with this creepy hockey mask.

The Hockey Facemask skin is a reskin of the Metal Facemask.

Cultist Deer Torch
The Cultists must have dropped this while opening the portals throughout the world.

The Cultist Deer Torch is a reskin of the starter torch. Once the torch skin is selected or crafted, you'll respawn with this skin.

Baseball Bat
It wouldn't be a zombie apocalypse without hitting zombies in the head with a baseball bat!

The Baseball bat is a reskin of the mace melee weapon.

There is also a bunch of Halloween themed skins on the Rust Item Store!
