This guide has been created for the Survivors who have recently joined NAKWON, helping them develop the essential basic knowledge required for Survival.
This section will showcase basic information on Scouting that can be helpful for the safe return of Survivors.
Survivors who are aware of the precautions have a higher chance of survival, so we encourage you to practice and familiarize yourself with them.
< Purpose of Scouting >
Human beings spend resources for survival. Unfortunately, Yeouido, where the NAKWON community resides, cannot afford to be self-sufficient.
However, there are still various resources left throughout Seoul. We need to bring resources from the outside to make a living.
< Scouting Location >
In the early beginning of NAKWON, we tried scouting in various regions of Seoul. Now, however, we only allow scouting around the Jongno 3-ga area.
This decision was made by the NAKWON Governing Committee due to the stability of the pathways and the region itself, the richness of resources, etc. A lot of sacrifice and trial and error were needed to come to this conclusion.
< Scouting Rule >
All citizens in NAKWON must scout regularly. The rules are as below:
All citizens must join Scouting regularly.
It is possible to rest without Scouting, but the number of Scouts that one may skip differs according to the Citizen Grade.
Scouting is allowed once a day. Sleep and rest as soon as you return.
No responsibility for anything that happens during the Scouting. What happens in the Lawless Zone stays in the Lawless Zone.
Scouting is primarily conducted during the night. This is the safest time as of now.
The NAKWON Governing Committee collects collapsed personnel before dawn and makes a return. For a quick return, everything other than the collapsed body will be left behind.

Scouting will be carried out in four stages below.

Escape
1. Wait You may have to wait as we collect and transfer people who join in the Scouting at once. Once there are enough people, everyone moves to Jongno 3-ga and starts scouting.
2. Entrance The Governing Committee transfers Survivors only to near the Jongno 3-ga area and Survivors carry on Scouting separately. Because there were many cases where all personnel were wiped out while being in one place, we now randomly distribute survivors and let them enter.
However, two people who are battle buddies start scouting at the same place.
3. Scouting Your current location and the assigned Personal Escape Route can be checked via the map on the given Tablet PC. You will also be able to find the information on each Building. Make a scouting plan considering the location of Escape Routes. The main buildings' information can be also found on the map. Find what you need and conduct Scouting safely.
4. Escape There are three main Escape Routes. You will be able to escape from anywhere but be aware that some Routes have conditions to use.
1) Personal Escape Route: After numerous sacrifices, the NAKWON Governing Committee has secured the safety of several manholes. Every Scouting, one manhole will be randomly assigned for each person to escape. The lock of the manhole is connected to the given Tablet PC, so each assigned manhole will be available only to the one who has the connected device.
However, members of the buddy system have the same Personal Escape Route and will be able to move together from beginning to end.
2) Public Escape Route: In case of emergency, we have secured a large scale of Escape Routes on the defensive walls at the edge of Jongno 3-ga.
However, for security reasons, they will stay locked for a certain period after scouting starts. Once opened, they are available for everyone. One or two of the Public Escape Routes are in each of the east, west, north, and south of Jongno 3-ga.
3) Secret Escape Route: We came across a place that leads from the inside of an old underground waterway to a tunnel. It's confirmed that the tunnel can be used to return to NAKWON.
However, the iron bars blocking the entrance of the waterway are automatically locked every day, and the only way to open them is to activate both switches located in a specific location. There are constant rumors of rare items being found inside the waterway, but this is not under our management, so it's not officially recommended to use.
< Dangers in Scouting >
There are numerous factors that threaten your life during Scouting. Most times, being aware of the factors below could be a big help for survival.
Zombies
An estimated 200 to 300 Zombies are in Jongno 3-ga where you go scouting. The number changes little by little every day, but you should be careful during scouting as Zombies are always there.
Zombies are strong. They can be defeated with around a minimum of 7 hits with the given weapon. (The mentioned number may change upon Zombie's body part that you hit.) Better weapons sold in the higher-class shop (A thorn bat or a claw hammer) would "kill" Zombies with 2~3 hits, but the sound may stimulate other Zombies around.
Defeated Zombies will get up around in 3~5 minutes, so we recommend you collect everything you need and move on. More information on Zombies can be found in another guide issued by the NAKWON Governing Committee.
Other Survivors
Even though we distribute every citizen randomly across the area, there's a chance you'll come across each other. Most times, it is recommended that you don't encounter each other from the beginning.
A significant number of the collapsed that we collect have traces of being attacked by someone else, not by Zombies. In this Lawless Zone, no proof or testimony holds meaning.
Remember the rule: ‘What happens in the Lawless Zone stays in the Lawless Zone.’ Do not trust any other people except your scout buddy, be cautious and avoid.
Spreading Poisonous Gas
Poison gas, which began to occur with the Zombie Apocalypse, covers the city for most of the time. Your HP decreases naturally in the gas. The Poisonous Gas disappears for a moment during the night, which is one of the reasons Scouting is primarily conducted during the night. We let the Scouting start right after the Poisonous Gas disappears, but it spreads again to the whole city in a short time. You may bear in the gas a bit, but it is not recommended. We encourage you to finish scouting and escape through the Escape Route before it's too late.
< Scouting Mission Details >
The basic goal of scouting is bringing needed resources for survival. Other than that, a mission may be delivered from the NAKWON Governing Committee to each of the Survivors. Additional rewards are given if you complete the mission and return, though it is not mandatory.
Collecting
Usually, resources are found in the following way:
1. Street Search Various resources can be found on the street. Items such as bricks, empty bottles, piles of wires, or worn-out clothes may be worth less but can be used to attract Zombies or to make temporary defensive gears.
2. Opening Boxes From trash cans to safes, there are various boxes you can see anywhere. Different items can be found within.
3. Indoor Search Valuable items are usually found indoors. Especially in large main buildings (for example, huge buildings in the NAKWON Arcade), numerous items are still left.
However, there is a higher risk indoors as it is more difficult to run away when surrounded by Zombies, and you can never rule out the possibility of running into other Survivors.
4. Collecting from other existences You'll be able to search Zombies' bodies after defeating them, but it is difficult to find anything of real use. You will also be able to search other collapsed Survivors' bodies. Be aware that there are Survivors who join Scouting just to steal from other Survivors.
Mission Conduct
Missions needed for NAKWON will be assigned to each Survivor and will be notified during Scouting. The details can be found on the Tablet PC, and it is okay that you do not complete the missions. However, as corresponding rewards will be given once you return after completing them, we encourage you to complete the missions.
< Tips for survival in scouting >
The tips below are pieces of advice from Survivors with a high survival rate or a high resource collection rate while conducting several Scoutings. But, they are not always right. So we encourage you to act wisely on your own accord.
Securing safety near Escape Routes
One thing that could be learned from lots of scouting was that the moment of escape is the most dangerous. I almost died several times from sudden attacks by hidden Survivors near Escape Routes. Since then, I have made a habit of cleaning up around the Escape Routes before escaping. From a little far from the Escape Route, I attract Zombies to places where other survivors may be hiding by throwing items. (I prepare bricks or empty bottles to throw beforehand.) This helps me check not only if there is someone hiding but also Zombies in blind spots in advance. It takes some time to lure out the Zombies, but I've never been attacked out of nowhere near Escape Routes since I have made this a habit.
Looting Zombies
Most people avoid Zombies or defeat them quickly and pass. It's because they think no worthy items can be found in Zombies except worn-out clothes. However, in special places, I defeat Zombies and check each body. The story that is considered an urban legend, that the treasure was found from Zombies, is true. I experienced it myself. I cannot disclose more as it is a trade secret.
Use Buses
Going scouting often makes you become familiar with the lay of the land. Among the buses near the alley, there are buses you can jump, grab, and climb onto, but Zombies cannot. If you find those spots beforehand and memorize them, you can make your own route where you can run through for Scouting. Starting from one point, decide on the next point and run at full speed. Before you get caught by Zombies that follow your sounds, climb up to the next point and have a rest. Wait until your stamina recovers, and set the next spot, jump down, and run. I am maintaining a 50% survival rate this way.
Buddy System
I always go Scouting with a friend. Activity as a scout buddy makes it significantly easier and quicker to defeat Zombies and move on. When one person catches a Zombie's attention and lures them away, another person can go behind the Zombie and choke it. Piece of cake. The same method can be used when more than two Zombies approach. If there are more than three Zombies, one can attract them, and the other can prepare an ax or weapon to attack the Zombies from the back. But you must be careful not to attack your buddy.
