As announced earlier today at the Élan Festival, Please Be Happy has passed over 5,000 copies sold! We're also super close to 200 Steam reviews (with a 99% positive score) which is amazing!! Thank you so much to everyone who has ventured out on this journey with Miho.
Next month is the 1 year anniversary (birthday?) for Please Be Happy—1 year since Miho traveled to Wellington. To celebrate, we have a brand new merch bundle. This bundle will include a new acrylic standee, a mini booklet from the developers, and a mini postcard signed by Miho's voice actress Dottovu.
There is also a reprint of adirosa's Please Be Happy artbook, hic et nunc. which is available now! In the coming months we’ll be sharing info on a vinyl print of Please Be Happy’s soundtrack, so stay tuned for that with our newsletter.
Again, thank you so much to everyone who's decided to travel with Miho ♥
Just a heads up, you can't find the *full* changelog here, that will be on our discord server or on our website.
New Region
Beneath the Star Shaman's temple, under the soft soil of the marsh, is a remnant of a civilization long deceased. Be careful not to lose your way in these winding catacombs, and see if you can find an escape, before something else finds you...
The Crypts, although there are no "standard" levels within, has tons of content and lots of secrets for you to find while exploring. Unlike other regions, where you are perfectly safe outside levels, the monsters in the Crypts will always be hunting you, creating a feeling of suspense like no other areas in Bana Simulator. Be careful not to make a sound, you don't want to know what happens to Banas when these ancient aberrations catch one...
Bow Rework
All bow type weapons have been given an incredible rework. Now you can use the numerous items you collect across your journey to fletch your own arrows with special powers! Press "r" in combat to open the fletching menu, where you can craft arrows ranging from reinforced sticks to celestial arrows of mass destruction.
The Canine Games team have been busy over the past 4 months on the Tranzfuser programme and have focused on a new Hymble Ventures prototype which is now added to this demo. So there are two distinct levels and a new health bar system that portrays the game's unique selling point. Gameplay focused on the five senses.
Cute visual novel narrative elements
Five health bars for five sense perceptions (touch, taste, sight, smell, sound)
Enemies attack according to what sense perception it damages e.g. firefly's that cast bright lights to damage sight sense
Hymble and Codee are remodelled to look simple and appealing
New artwork (sprites, UI, journal pages)
Some features like the voice acting and cutscene before the level starting, have been removed for the time being. But don't worry, we'll put them back in when we update the demo further.
Spooky Skins
It's spooky season and we're excited to debut Hymble and Codee's holiday skins. You can see this feature if you play 'Hymble, The Witch and the Wardrobe'. If this goes down well, we can make more skins in future releases!
- Adjusted the opacity of the non-selectable houses. - Corrected a bug where you could spam the EMF-POD on and off without delay. - Corrected audio bug where ghosts would spam audio lines. - Corrected bug where if smudges burned out on steps and player turned off could spawn inventory without dropping smudge. - Corrected bug where relics could be unlocked before all required evidence was obtained on some ghosts. - Increased robustness when calling the required variable for releasing and exorcising.
Hey, all of you wonderful individuals! Here’s what’s new in this week’s update!
A small but impactful quality of life change has been added! The weapon slots for your Pets are no longer locked! This change of course means that exclusive weapons for them can be discovered over the course of the game. As of this update, two new weapons can be found. This change will hopefully incentivize the use of multiple Pets for different situations. Also, Lauren who previously fought without a weapon, now starts with a basic cleaning broom! …Well, she can use it as a staff to channel her magic, at least.
Next, I'm happy to announce the completion of the last substantial chunk of writing I had left. Seraphina's support conversations are now completely written, scripted and tested.
On Monday I had trouble concentrating, but I managed to pull through over the course of the week and get it done. Working on the game while at my local library was a big help. The place was recently refurbished and had a great, calm atmosphere. I want to return there soon.
On the game’s side, I just have a few more things to get through before release. I need to rebalance the boss fight, finish the enemy placements in the dungeon, update the dev room to include all the new items, cheats, and skips for this version, and finally test the scenario from start to finish. I do however have two more pieces of art to finish, which is what I plan on prioritizing this week.
For this week’s art teaser, I present you with this: Seraphina’s max affection scene.
I still plan on releasing the game this month, but it’s likely going to release late in the month for Patrons and then early November for everyone else. This is to ensure I have plenty of time to test and iron out any flaws I encounter right upon release. Thanks to everyone for being patient!
