A few weeks ago, we previewed the Free Legion faction’s base, the Free Fortress. In today’s Dev Update, we’ll explore another town - one controlled by a rival faction to the Free Legion, the Commonwealth.
The recently established town of Howling Valley already has quite the history. Situated directly south of the port city of Kalsundar and accessible by train, it is also where you will make a big impact early in your journey across Kalsundia! Let’s take a quick look, shall we?
Please keep in mind that this map is currently in development and that every part of it is subject to improvements.
A Blessed Town
Founded and led by a priest, Howling Valley is known for its unusual shrine. While most shrines are built of stones and decorated with ornate statues of gods, Howling Valley’s shrine is constructed with repurposed pieces from the caravans of a scouting convoy.
Some of the current residents of Howling Valley are people who were in the convoy. They were searching for a good location for a new train station and outpost when thunderbeasts ambushed them. Surprisingly, during the chase, the thunderbeasts gave up and ran away. The priest and leader of the convoy (now current leader of Howling Valley) believed the valley where the beasts fled from to be blessed and ordered the construction of the shrine and train station.
A Commonwealth Town
Not long after the founding of the town, the Commonwealth came and also started building in Howling Valley. The Commonwealth sent up one of their young rising stars to take care of the planning, construction, and recruitment. It was a resounding success as the faction gained a fortified mansion and also now generates income through the stables and train station warehouse.
The Commonwealth have to keep all their properties well-guarded as many rival factions and bandits might want to snatch them away. Alarms and traps are set up in case someone does manage to sneak past the guards. As for the mansion, it is built on a cliff ledge and designed so that an invader has no easy way to reach the leader’s office.
A Mysterious Town
The mystery as to why the chasing thunderbeasts ran away that day has yet to be resolved. As well, the shrine is surrounded by rock pillars with shining lights, but their function remains unknown.
Researchers who have tried to dig deeper into the ground were met with fierce resistance from the founding priest. The leader of Howling Valley would rather not risk disturbing anything in this blessed area. But many believe that something ancient lies under the town.
Some Concept Art
I hope you enjoyed this look at Howling Valley and its history. Let us know in the comments what you think of the look and feel of this town.
We’ll be back next month with a Dev Update diving deeper into the setting of the game and it’ll come with a big surprise for you all! Stay tuned to our posts!
In July, Pry Into The Void revealed its publishing deal with Dangen Entertainment - publisher of games such as Bug Fables, Ara Fell, Abomi Nation and more! Very happy that PitV is part of the Dangen line up as I've always respected the publisher's choice of games to sign with. This opportunity also opens up many possibilities such as language options (including Japanese) and console versions later down the line! I'm excited to have more and more people join Josef's descent into the Void!
In August, PitV also participated in the second Monster Taming Direct hosted by Gym Leader Ed and Bandit Berry. A new trailer premiered during the event titled "Waltiere Trailer", focused on the character Waltiere who represents one of the 3 routes of the game. The trailer also showcases the first vocal track of Pry Into The Void, Waltiere's theme composed by Jun Mitsui with lyrics and vocals from Brandon Yates. It's so freaking awesome, you have to check out the trailer yourselves!
We continue to write about the characters of the Morganica demo fragment, which will be released on December 25, 2023. We have already talked about Burner, the mysterious prisoner of the Stomad prison and the zombie alcoholic Crazy, whose illness we will learn about in the main game. In the demo fragment, our acquaintance with him will only take place and we will not have time to feel the steady smell of fumes from the never-drying stillborn drunkard. Today we will tell you about the most harmless and at the same time the most nightmarish resident of Morganica.
The Corpse-Eater.
The boy was born and began his life quiet and calm. Until the age of two, he grew up, like all the children around him, until someone noticed that the baby began to grow unnaturally fat. The diagnosis was short and deadly. Prader-Willi syndrome. The absence of a copy of the paternal section of chromosome 15 in the genome. But the nightmare was just beginning.
At the age of 20, the boy turned into an insensitive, motionless carcass of human fat and skin. The meaninglessness of existence has become the only thought that has settled in the atrophied brain of a being who once planned to become a man. If the boy could feel something, compare his feelings with something, probably tears would not stop flowing down his flabby cheeks. But only emptiness and a silent scream filled his empty brain.
He did not cause inconvenience to anyone and gradually ceased to care about anyone. Even the wish of death did not disturb the rest of the piece of flesh, which he had turned into by the 20 years of his existence. So he was taken away by the priests of the Demons of Evil, on a windy night in mid-November 1969 from the ward of a private clinic.
What do demons eat? Human emotions. It's on the mental plane. And their physical shell? Human flesh. The designs of Evil are insidious and immeasurably cruel.
The huge body of the former boy became a womb for digesting human remains, generously supplied by the inhabitants of Morganica after each ritual of the Bloody Harvest. Black plastic bags with limbs still moving and fetid offal flowed in an endless stream into the gaping hole of a huge meat grinder. The eternally living intestine, pulsating, fed raw meat and crushed bones into the body, devoid of a head. Right into the torn larynx of a huge carcass, inside which the fermentation of processed human meat was constantly taking place.
Several times a day, the Demons descended into a huge hall, with a body hanging in the center, and sucked the juice out of it for their physical shells. Now the boy and his sick body have found meaning, purpose and name. Now everyone called him the Corpse-Eater.

The everyday bustle of work in the mansion has finally ended. The Puppeteer is pleased with his puppets and relaxes his supervision for the weekend. Next weekend, the health recovery rate will be doubled.
In addition, The Puppeteer wants to reward his dolls for perseverance and good behavior and help with collecting collections, so he announces a 50% discount on association items for the next 3 days.
