Hi everyone, this monthly update is a little late because I was away at the end of August and have been catching up! Anyway, here's what we've worked on during that time:
New Trailer!
We created a new trailer that we’ll be debuting during Realms Deep on the 30th September. In case you weren’t aware, this event is hosted by 3D Realms and if you’re partial to a FPS and other cool indie games it’s definitely worth tuning in.
It was fantastic to see all our work pulled together in this fashion and we can’t wait for you to see it!
New Enemy!
…Or more like an old enemy polished up. The Heavy (placeholder name) is slightly larger and bulkier than your standard soldier-type and carries a plasma-based minigun that lays down a withering hail of fire. We prototyped this enemy very early on – in fact you can see him in our Announcement Trailer - but switched focus to other enemy types while we worked on the rest of the game, so it’s been good to bring this big guy up to the same standard as his peers.
Loadout Screen!
When entering a level to commence your defence a SENTRY is deposited via a pod transport system. During this sequence you are presented with a loadout screen that allows you to choose which weapons, deployables and abilities you want to use in the coming battle.
We created a loadout menu a long time ago, but it wasn’t efficient to use and was visually outdated compared to our more recent Upgrade and Unlock menu system, so we’ve completed a rework to bring it up to scratch.
New Level!
Our latest new level is one with lots of high walkways, ideal for throwing enemies into bottomless pits!
Other stuff!
Every month we do loads of smaller changes that don’t necessarily warrant a section to themselves. Besides tons of little fixes and polish tasks, we also did:
More co-op work, we’re at the stage where we have a long list of individual features that need to be networked. Co-op is in a pretty good place but there’s still a huge amount of work left to make it shippable.
Fixing up a bunch of co-op sound effects where you could hear the audio your player made but not the sounds the co-op player was making.
The start of a save system
Just for fun!
At the start of the month we took part in Tiny Teams, a festival dedicated to games created by small teams. We have just one programmer, artist and designer, with some part time music and sound-design and myself handling non-core-dev work (QA, Community, Production, boring business stuff) and because we’re choosing to self-publish it’s great to have events like this that shine a light on the little guys!
Tell us what you think about the latest additions! If you want to reach out we’re active on all these platforms:
For those of you who have been begging for wacky destruction on the go, we have great news!
Trouble in Tornado Town is now playable on the Steam Deck!
Take your favorite destruction game to wherever you may blow, with the ability to play wherever your heart desires. Who knows where you might complete your quickest run?
Quality of Life (QoL) - Lives and cat parts are now displayed when the game is paused. - Gamepad analogue sticks can now be used in menus by default in addition to dpad.
Critical Bug Fixes - Reworked graphics settings, full screen option now works correctly for non-integer resolutions such as 800p or 1440p. - Constant analogue stick or mouse input signals from some devices (graphcis tablet, racing wheels, some notebook touchpads) should no longer block normal keyboard and gamepad signals - The game will no longer start in a tiny window on a second start if no graphics settings were touched on the first start - Enemies can no longer lose interest during a fight scene and walk off the screen, causing a semi-softlock
Localisation Fixes - Replaced some incorrect translations (regarding the dash functions) in several languages for the options menu. - Spanish localisation now displays the correct ¡ and ¿ characters - All keywords in all languages are now capitalised in the options menu.
Minor Bug Fixes - Fixed missing result screen font in some levels in non-Latin languages - Shotgun and minigun now show correct sprite before being picked up - Numpad debug keys that allowed manipulation of wind speed removed from snow levels - Crawling dogs falling off cliffs now count as kills - Can't kill 102% of the enemies in the last level anymore :) - Special weapons don't cast a shadow in the air
Level Changes - The edge of the planks in the mine cart level is now more visible - Corrected order of cat parts in some levels - Repositioned cat parts in some levels - Fixed some misplaced colliders and visual tiles in several levels.
Other Changes - Changes to item drop rates: - Smaller enemies can now drop items. - Larger enemies have a reduced chance of dropping items. - Crates have a higher chance of containing items.
If you haven't seen it in the latest news post, we have created a Community Discord Server, feel free to join and chat with the devs and each other, share fanart or discuss speedrun strategies.
We will be performing server maintenance in the EU, NA and SEA regions on the following schedule:
[Scheduled date and time]
September 6, 2023 10:00 ~ 13:00 (CET) AM 4:00 ~ AM 7:00 (EST) PM 4:00 ~ PM 7:00 (GMT+8)
Schedules may change due to unexpected problems.
STALCRAFT servers will be unavailable during maintenance.
The update makes minor changes to the game.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. If you have any questions, please visit our support website.
I’m excited to show you all the latest trailer for Supersonic Fight - thank you to all those who have wishlisted already. Your support is greatly appreciated and as a small team of two, it’s so exciting to see people pick up what we’re putting down. We’re working hard to make you something really special.
We’ve been getting some regular questions from the community in our Discord so I thought I would share them here with you too. Let me know in the comments if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to answer them all.
Q&A
Will I be able to use my Flight Stick with this game? - Yes! Supersonic Flight is Fully HOTAS controller compatible
Can I play in VR? - Absolutely! The game supports SteamVR and is being regularly tested on the Quest 2 headset via Oculus Link. In the future, I would love to explore other platforms so let me know what you would like to play Supersonic Fight on!
Is it Steam Deck verified? - Supersonic Fight runs (a little slowly) on Steam Deck in current testing so we are hopeful that it will be verified by launch next year.
Can I customize my jet? - See the fancy gif below. All liveries can be fully customized and you will be able to share them in Steam Workshop. Here’s a preview of the types of liveries you can make in our in-game editor:
We are planning a playtest in a few months so please join our Discord to be the first to hear about it, or look out for future steam announcements to sign up.
Tarn is back from Germany and covid positive! Even a week later! Ouch! Thanks to all of you who visited Tarn at Gamescom. Despite the illness, it was rejuvenating to meet a continent of fans and watch people build succession forts at the booth. Putnam continues tinkering and improving, but in terrible luck, Tarn & Zach are also dealing with a family emergency that unfortunately continues to worsen.
But the good news is that a patch is incoming, as promised, just a bit behind schedule. Tarn is back at work, mostly recovered, fixing bugs and implementing some new graphics you should be able to see by early next week at the latest.
Phew, this update took a lot longer to get out than we hoped. We’ll spare you the excuses, thank you for your patience with us, and skip straight to the highlights of what this update contains! The headliner is the physics pass! While we have more work to do in this area in both improving the physics of the objects, and adding more, there is enough here already for you guys to have some fun kicking stuff around.
Speaking of kicking… we are excited to introduce the drop kick!
There are also errand improvements, AI improvements, UI improvements, new Going POSTAL challenges, mirrors, more interactive environment objects, level design improvements, sound design improvements, a crap ton of bug fixes, and so much more.
We also have many more features and improvements nearly ready that didn’t quite make the cut for this update - we’ll post a developers update regarding all that soon.
Note: We highly recommend starting a new save game for this update. For anyone wishing to use their current saves on update 1.1.1, we’ve added a beta branch for it.
