Today we also have a special Q&A, with the man behind the miniatures of Worms: The Board Game: Luigi Terzi!
Q&A With Our Sculptor: Luigi Terzi
Hi Luigi! Tell us a little about your background in sculpting. I started sculpting 10 years ago, but first started out in graphic design. After working with legendary game designer Alessio Cavatore I asked if he knew anyone searching for an illustrator and a sculptor, and that’s how I came to meet Ronnie and his team at Mantic Games!
Through the years I have done work for Warlord Games, Modiphius, Fantasy Flight, Steamforged, Wyrd, & Wizkids. I have also sculpted large-scale models for companies like Sideshow and Figurama.
How did you feel when asked to work on Worms? My very first thought was ‘that’s going to be a lot of fun’, and it has been!
Are you a fan of the Worms video games? I played them a lot before raising a family. Back then I also loved Wipeout, Tekken and Colin McRae Rally – so maybe you can guess my age from this list!
What are the challenges with sculpting these characters? The most difficult thing is making the Worms look like they have paused mid-action! They have to be very expressive. It’s all about combining fun facial expressions with a cool pose that works. Finally, they need to have enough variety so they will look great together on the tabletop.
What was the best thing about this project? Having the chance to do something totally different from anything else I’ve worked on! Working with different design styles really helps to keep my creativity fresh.
Do you have a favourite worm that you’ve sculpted for the campaign? Do I have to pick just one? I have a few, my top 3 are: the worm with a sheep, the worm with a vase, and (*spoiler alert*) at first place is the disco worm – he looks fantastic!
Thanks Luigi – it’s been a pleasure chatting with you, and thanks for all your work on Worms: The Board Game!

Happy September 1st, Explorers! We've just launched our Spanish Language Update and we're now creeping into Mod SDK territory, which is very exciting. We'll have more details on the exact date for the software development kit soon. Until then, let's see what the community has been up to.
Halloween Excitement
Halloween may still be months away, but we're getting all excited for spooky season! You might notice some slightly less murderous enemies and a little Embertail sat in the overworld, which we achieved using the developer console. We had a couple of people ask about this on Twitter though, and we've definitely taken your feedback on board about wanting to be able to place pets in the world!
5 Core Keeper Facts!
We shared a whole heap of Core Keeper facts over on Twitter on Thursday, but we'd happy to share 'em again here. Are you ready?
1. While Core Keeper looks like a 2D game, the world is generated as 3D blocks & combined with 2D characters and objects. By adding mathematical tricks to the camera, we make the game appear entirely 2D with gorgeous 3D lighting effects.
2. We ran our first closed alpha just three months after announcing #CoreKeeper on Steam and your feedback added many cool things to the game including...
- Boss health recovery -Root seeds/blocks - Hunger increasing based on pixels travelled (as opposed to over time)
3. Fishing was added as a direct response to community requests. Yep, if you want something badly enough, it might just get added to the game!
We've also taken on board your feedback & think some refining is in order for this mechanic. Something to think about for the future 🎣
4. The Orange Slime is the very first monster we designed for Core Keeper, and it’s probably the first monster you’ll encounter in-game. In fact, the concept for Glurch came about when we asked "what would happen if a bunch of Slimes all fused together?"
5. We've heard your feedback when it comes to transporting cattle across the map...and let's just say it'll soon be the leasht of your worries 👀
We Had an Amazing Time at Gamescom!
The Fireshine Games team brought Core Keeper to Gamescom this year and had a blast welcoming new and veteran Explorers to the underground...and handing out lots of shiny new merch!
Here's a pic from Gamescom that one of our awesome Twitter followers, GhostArya, shared with us!
The Water of the Future
We've been sharing some cheeky teasers we've got in store for future updates, including real-time water simulations!
Figurine Collection
Discord user, Twifyre, showed off their figurine collection on the Core Keeper Discord! They finally got that Acid Larva figurine.
On August 15th, 1945, Japan announced its surrender, marking the end of hostilities on the Pacific Theater. However, the official end of World War II came on September 2nd, when Japan signed the act of capitulation. This date is celebrated in the US as the Victory over Japan Day.
From September 1st (12:00 GMT) until September 4th (07:00 GMT)
Play 3 battles using US vehicles (rank III or higher, with an activity of not less than 70%) to receive the “V-J Day” decal.
“V-J Day” decal
Complete the task in random battles, except for Enduring Confrontation missions and [Assault] mode. Track your progress in the hangar by clicking Nickname → Achievements → Holidays → Victory in WWII Day.
You can find the decal in the “Holidays” tab in the Customisation menu.
📣 Exciting News! I'm thrilled to announce that a Full Ray Tracing version of the game is now available for testing on Steam. Experience a whole new level of visual fidelity with fully ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections.
👉 How to Access:
Open your Steam library. Right-click on the game title. Select "Properties." Go to the "Betas" tab. In the drop-down menu, select the "fullrtpreview1.3.0" branch.
🎮 How to Enable Full Ray Tracing In-Game:
Go to Settings. Navigate to the Graphics tab. Scroll down and activate the "Full Ray Tracing" option.
⚠️ Known Issues:
Portal particles are currently not visible in reflections due to bugs and performance issues. FSR 2 is experiencing issues and has been temporarily replaced with TSR. Please note that this is a preview version and might contain some bugs. A high-end GPU is highly recommended for the best experience.
I appreciate your continued support and can't wait to hear your feedback!

In the 3rd (and final!) part of this mini-series, we’re going to take a look into all the enemies that you’ll encounter when you play as Acan, the Mayan god of wine. These creatures are themed around both mythological and real enemies that their civilisation would have faced.
Aztec
The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican culture that flourished in central Mexico in the post-classic period from 1300 to 1521.
Aztec warriors were skilled and disciplined fighters, and were highly honoured.
Known to be quite bloodthirsty, Aztec warriors preferred to capture their enemies so that they could sacrifice them to the gods.
Aztec’s were the first people to discover chocolate.
In These Doomed Isles, Aztec steal a Trade card from your deck when attacking a building!
Conquistador
The main goal of the Spanish conquistadors was to claim land and resources for their investors and conquer land for treasure and glory.
The word conquistador comes from Spanish and means "he who conquers."
Wherever the conquistadors went, death, disease, and misery for the natives followed.
When a conquistador invades your island, they’ll take 1-5 gold when they attack a building!
Cipactli
In Aztec mythology, Cipactli was a primeval sea monster, part crocodilian, part fish, and part toad or frog.
Every joint on its body was adorned with an extra mouth.
This animal had an insatiable hunger which threatened to devour ever creation on earth.
When Cipactli rocks up on your land, they gain +1 attack strength after attacking.
Cueyatl
Cueyatl are a frog-like race of humanoids that make their homes in swamps and dense jungles.
They have poisonous tongues that could corrode a demigod's body.
When they hop onto your land, they will spawn a copy of themselves if they take zero damange during a turn!
Camazotz
Camazotz is described as an anthropomorphized leaf-nosed bat and is the Mayan god of bats, night, death and sacrifice.
He supposedly fed on blood, and is fiercely dangerous to anyone that comes across it.
In These Doomed Isles, Camazotz will attack housing (or your shrine if it’s closer!)
Huay Chivo
Huay Chivo is a legendary Mayan beast.
He is a half-man, half-beast creature, with burning red eyes.
He was thought to be an evil sorcerer who can transform himself into a supernatural animal, usually a goat, dog or deer, in order to prey upon livestock!
He will cause chaos on your island, so be ready to defend your settlement!
You'll be able to fight against these troublesome enemies on September 25th when the full game releases! These baddies are part of the third God, Acan, who hasn't yet been playable. We're really excited for you to play as Acan, and we'll be sharing more info on this god over the coming weeks!
As always, if you're able to wishlist These Doomed Isles that would really help us get our game noticed. Thank you!
🔧 Dynamic Job System for Characters: Every character in Castaway Coalition is now empowered with its own job system. No longer will they aimlessly wander! Each individual's actions will be dictated by their immediate needs or the town's requirements. For instance, if a character is hungry, they'll seek out food. Or if the town is expanding, they might be tasked with gathering logs and branches for construction.
📊 Job Prioritization Mechanism: Jobs aren't just handed out randomly. They come with priority levels: Low, Medium, High, and Critical. This ensures that characters know exactly what's important and what needs to be tackled first.
🔄 Dynamic Job Switching: What happens if something urgent pops up while a character is busy? No worries! If a new job with a higher priority appears, the current task is immediately halted. Characters will then focus on the most pressing matter. Imagine a scenario where a character is building a house but is suddenly ambushed by a wild animal. They won't just continue hammering away; they'll either defend themselves or flee from danger!
🔍 Understanding Actions: In Castaway Coalition, an action is a distinct task a character undertakes, like WoodCutting or LogCutting. A single job might comprise one or multiple actions, providing layers to every assignment.
I believe this system will elevate gameplay, making each character's decisions feel more organic and driven by the dynamic environment. It's not just about surviving; it's about living and adapting to the ever-changing challenges of Castaway Coalition.
Can't wait to see how players react to this intricate system and adapt their strategies. Let us know your thoughts and feedback.
