Our third month of Early Access brought a price reduction, and a variety of changes. This month brought items with reactive procs, and a variety of new NPCs added to the bestiary.
You can find highlights of the changes this month in the notes below.
Dungeons and Scenarios
Adjusted the spawners in the majority of scenarios. This was done to both add in the new NPC minibosses, but also to adjust the miniboss distribution. Allowing some minibosses to cross over into different themes, wherever it made sense. It will for example, be much more common to get an Orc boss on an orc map. But it is also possible to get a Gorgon, Troll, or Mage from time to time.
The Protecting the Artifact scenario now features multiple new potential NPC and miniboss types available for its wave spawners.
Items and Loot
Items can now process special effects after you get hit, or when you defeat an enemy. The time at which it processes will vary by the item type. In the near future we will also be adding weapon procs which will fire when attacking with that weapon.
Introduced multiple new types of items which take advantage of this capability. These will begin appearing around level 5. We'll continue adding these in the upcoming patches.
NPCs
Harpies have been added to the game. Harpy songs can bewilder heroes and their companions, and they also have some deadly talon attacks, and debuffs. They are vulnerable to elemental effects, but resistant to poison. Harpies come in a variety of feather color configurations, and can be found as rare spawns in most scenarios.
Introduced a new Giant Spider miniboss type. These have a new appearance, unlike the smaller spiders. They are as you would expect, quite a bit larger, and have a different mesh and textures. These spiders will leap and have a deadly poison, like their smaller cousins. But they also have a spider web attack which can restrict your movement and make you unable to attack for a time. They are resistant to poison, but vulnerable to both fire and cold.
Introduced new Night Blade NPCs. These are a new rogue type that will only appear on Undead or mixed maps. They can use stealth, backstab, and penetrate armor.
Introduced new Ice Caller minibosses. These are a specialized human mage type which casts frost based magical attacks. This includes slowing attacks which will reduce your movement. They can also blink, which will not only relocate them, but boost their damage for a period of time afterwards. They can easily be identified by their light blue robes.
There is a new NPC mage miniboss type: Fire Bringer. These human spell casters are similar to the Ice Callers, except their abilities are fire based. They can not warp, but have more offensive minded abilities, including reactives and proximity damage. They can be easily identified by their red robes.
Werewolves and Scraggly Werewolves are now more dangerous when flanking their opponents, gaining a damage bonus in those situation.
Made some adjustments to the reactive fireball attacks on Minibosses. The mini-boss variation will now spawn less projectiles and will randomly choose which directions are chosen. We also toned down the damage on these attacks.
Skeleton Captains can now backstab.
Added a slew of new items which were thrown into various NPC loot tables.
Skills and Abilities
Optimizations were made to the Energetic Skill.
Sounds
Added new NPC pain, death, and taunt sounds.
Optimized some animation notifies which were runing on the server and client, but only needed to run on the client.
Fixed a bug that had an orc pain sound on one of the smaller spider hit reactions.
Miscellaneous
Virtual shadow map optimizations.
Localization Updates.
Fixed an issue with the liches ice blast attack. It erroneously had a tiny effect radius.

Two New Adventure Maps Based on the feedback we’ve received from our demo, we have remodeled and made a complete overhaul of our original Adventure map. With a new map structure and a larger path variety, players can expect to feel a significant increase in options to draft and craft their deck. Look out for the new treasure chests, new item cards and beware of new ultimate enemies, as they now have more powerful skills at their disposal.
A second map, which we dub the ultimate challenge is reserved only for the toughest champions. We’ve made sure this map will rattle and challenge even the most experienced card game players, so try as you might, we have doubts as to how many of you can survive The Otherworld.
Character Mastery In our new open beta build, when you play with a character, you will gain experience points that will reward you with new cards and new upgrades to that character. The more you play, the more toys you will get. Try to get as many cards as possible so you can flexibly interact and adapt to any threats your opponents might throw at you in PVP. Whilst in adventure mode, try and build different decks with the two different unlockable perks that will drastically change your playstyle. Just a little spoiler, the A.T.A.C.R missile build is one you want to try with Advanced Rocketry.
A.T.A.C.R joins the fray! The All-Terrain Assault Combat Robot is finally available in Adventure mode for the first time in the Open Beta Weekend. With over 50 cards you can build its deck with, there is no shortage of weapons you can use with it. The Missile Salvo, B.F.M and Repulsion Field are top tier cards that set it apart from other decks with massive damage potential. Shoot and bomb your opponents with different gadgets and upgrades to experience what it means to be a metallic death and destruction.
Over 100+ new cards and balances Items, Upgrades, Character, Class cards, we’ve made changes and balanced the card pool of existing cards as well as the many new cards we are implementing. Since our last update, we’re introducing over 20 new mechanics, some class specific, some card specific and a special one reserved for Ally cards. It would be too much to list every single one out, but if you just jump into any match or any map, you are sure to find something new.
We are very excited to show you the fruits of our achievements and everyone at Distilled Gaming wishes all players a fun and thrilling week in the arena. From us all at Distilled Gaming

Update content
1) Changes based on feedback:
Made a small fix to the real-time MVP Points UI that was displayed during regular matches.
2) Gameplay changes:
Slightly increased the time for before the ball regenerates after scoring a goal in regular matches (2 seconds > 3 seconds).
When playing a regular match, the UI that appears when a goal is scored (scorer's name and text such as pass, rebound, block, etc.) has been reduced in size.
When the bot has the ball, you can now use quick chat [Pass] [Over here!] and the bot will pass to you.
You can now press and hold the movement arrow keys to navigate in the menus with a controller or keyboard.
Replaced the Metaball ID with a Meta Tag format. Each user gets a unique 6-digit Meta Tag.
We've added Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, and Russian to our list of supported languages, which previously included Korean, English, French, and Spanish.
Hi friends, We have less than two months until PAX Melbourne and SXSW Sydney where the demo of our debut game Copycat will light up your hearts and imaginations. In preparation for the demo release, we went to a local cat cafe to see if our four-legged friends could offer us some words of advice.
Truthfully, the cat's feedback was a little difficult to decipher, but you gotta love them regardless.
But perhaps you are keen to play our demo and provide us with feedback!? Simply keep an eye on our twitter (https://twitter.com/GameCopycat) over the coming days where we will have a sign up for players to try our demo build.
Attention generals! Welcome to Community Bulletin #20. You may or may not notice a Viking theme throughout this bulletin. This is because the RISK team is celebrating some new Viking content!
Here’s a fun Vikings fact, did you know that they did not call themselves Vikings? While we do not know exactly what they referred to themselves as, the term Vikings is a 19th century phrase. At the time of the Vikings, other nations referred to them as Norse, Norsemen and Danes.
Here’s what we will cover in this bulletin:
Networking Overhaul
Dev update
Update 3.12
New Content
Tournaments
And more!
Alrighty, it’s time to set sail because there’s so much to unveil!
The team has been busy this past month! Here’s what we’ve been working on!
Networking Overhaul The team’s been working on a Networking Overhaul for RISK. The purpose is to provide better stability to the game and improve the overall multiplayer user experience.
The team is still working hard on this overhaul and will provide more updates in the coming months. This represents a huge change to infrastructure for the game so our devs are focussed on making sure we tackle this carefully.
Roadmap Earlier this month, we asked the Discord community what YouTube content they’d like to see. There was interest in seeing a Quarterly roadmap as a video, so here it is: https://youtu.be/Xix_IVLn4w0
Dev Q&A We’ve been trying to communicate with the community as much as possible. One way we did this was through a dev Q&A: Some of our RISK Devs jumped in to play while answering questions directly from the community. https://youtu.be/VqFy4u03x6Q
Last month, we asked the Community Discord to vote on their favorite Viking concept. The winner was the Viking boat! Set sail with the Wooden Dreki troop out next week!
You can expect to see another Viking troop next month. Like a pungent wine, this drink pushes the front line. This Viking Tankard will also be joining the RISK battlefield.
Prime Gaming
Over the next 6 months, you can receive monthly in-game rewards with Amazon Prime Gaming! Say goodbye to the present and hello to the past, with the Dawn of the Dinos Map Pack.
Things have also been busy in the community Discord.
The RISK 1v1 World Tournament finals concluded.
Now the Discord is gearing up for a new tournament.
Here are some words from the staff in the community Discord:
“Welcome To RISK FFA World Championship Season 3 2023

RISK would not be the same without its dedicated community, so here are some community highlights from the month!
Thank you to the community Discord for creating memes to make the community (and us) laugh!
Here are some of our top RISK reviews for the month.
I guess it’s called RISK for a reason ;)
This is one of the most wholesome reviews I have ever seen.
Are you looking to put your strategic skills to the test? Think you have what it takes to challenge the best RISK players?
The community Discord has got you covered. From dedicated channels to help players find a game to regular community run tournaments with big prize pools, there’s something for players of all levels.
When using Stone Tough you will stop in place for a short period of time and improve your physical confrontation for a short period of time. Opponents who are in a physical confrontation with you will lose their balance.
This skill makes you an insurmountable obstacle in the path of an opponent, and although you can't use it when you're carrying the ball, you can use it to block a returning opponent for the player carrying the ball or to prevent a defender from interfering with a teammate's path to the goal. Naturally, this powerful skill is not "free", and it costs a hefty 4 Skill Points! This means you can only use this Special Skill a maximum of 3 times in an entire match, so take advantage of the opportunity!
Crab Move(FW/MF) Activate Crab move while carrying the ball to quickly move sideways for a short distance.
When using Crab Move, you will move the ball a short distance laterally, perfect for getting around defenders or breaking up blocks. This skill only costs an affordable 2 Skill Points, which means you can use it frequently to create chances for yourself, whether it's a shot or a pass.
Harrier Flip(DF) Use a backflip to intercept an opponent's pass or shot.
When you perform a Harrier Flip, you'll intercept a pass or shot with a backflip, especially those that come from high in the air or a hard shot. While you won't be able to keep the ball at your feet, even at a hefty 4 Skill Points, Harrier Flip has one of the best overhead interceptions in the game and doesn't get off-balance, which means that those who want to use other skills or specialties to compete with you for overhead kicks will need to think twice about spending their precious Now, spread your wings and make everyone's jaw drop!
The above will be available on FSFR in the anniversary edition
