Shadow of the Road - Kajtii

Hello, Warriors!

It's nice to be writing to you again! Firstly, we are grateful for your support and continuous feedback. We truly appreciate your patience as we worked through each step of the development process. We’re getting closer!

Today we'll delve into a crucial aspect of Shadow of the Road - the environment. We're well aware of its significance in turn-based RPGs, and it's a paramount element in our game as well.

Beautiful World

As the game is set in Japan, during the fall of the Empire's feudal era in 1868, the surroundings are reminiscent of the 19th-century Land of the Rising Sun. To create an environment that truly captures it, we had to dig through loads of pics from back then.

Luckily, some photos have survived the passage of time. We found pictures of rich people, villagers in their settlements, ports, markets, bridges, and even abandoned castles… But we didn't stop there – we also checked out artwork from earlier times, showing how they built temporary fortifications!

Source: oldphotosjapan.com

And hey, we couldn't miss the opportunity to draw inspiration from legendary movies like Akira Kurosawa's "Ran" and the whole collection of "Rurouni Kenshin" movies by Keishi Otomo. Have you watched them?

Don't expect a monotonous environment!

Shadow of the Road will take you on a journey to diverse locations, ranging from underground cave systems to open meadows, from serene monasteries to dangerous forests. Each of them is very distinct from another. All offer diverse experience, opportunities, and atmosphere.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Keep in mind that the environment will influence the flow of combat. With such varied terrain, certain characters may gain advantage, and attacks that seem impossible in other settings, can suddenly be effortlessly executed. Adding to the immersion, some elements of the environment will be destructible, making every encounter more dynamic and engaging.

Speaking of that - we wrote more about utilizing the terrain in combat in our previous devlog, so if you haven't read it yet - we encourage you to catch up!

Seek and you shall find

Moreover, we didn't want our world to feel empty, so you'll come across numerous collectibles along the way. These items will significantly impact your characters. Moreover, you will be able to find shrines, providing a boost to your abilities too.

We believe that a true warrior must be vigilant, so keep your eyes wide open - not only to admire the beauty of the surrounding nature. We want to reward those who will stray from the beaten path while exploring the world of Shadow of the Road.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Stay tuned!

To stay up-to-date with our progress on the environment and other parts of the game, we invite you to join us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Discord. We find immense joy in sharing the visual aspects of our project, and we can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Thank you again for being part of this journey!

Best regards

CorpoNation: The Sorting Process - Te_Tonic
Greetings, valued employees,

Whilst we’re working hard on CorpoNation: The Sorting Process we wanted to share some of the things you can expect in your lifelong assignment at Ringo.

We’ve been putting together a series of developer diaries to give you a brief rundown of what your future career at Ringo’s CorpoNation will look like. In this first developer diary, it seems only fitting to talk about the pinnacle of your life at Ringo: WORK.

Welcome to the Ringo CorpoNation

You play as Max, a new worker starting their first day of a lifelong assignment in the Ringo CorpoNation, a product manufacturing company that started the world’s first Corporately owned state, aka a CorpoNation.

Ringo employees are also Ringo citizens, or citizen-employees, living and working their whole lives under the watchful eye of their employer. We’ve taken inspiration from Company towns, tech giants and the intrusive behaviour of modern-day employers who encroach on the private lives of their workers.

As you continue through your life at Ringo, you may ask yourself, why am I doing this? Why does anyone work anywhere? What do you get from your job? Ultimately, you work in the CorpoNation because you were born in the CorpoNation, but you may come across other citizen-employees that make you challenge this assumption.

The Daily Grind

It’s your job to sort samples in the Genome Sector. To sort a sample, pick it up and drag it to the correct tube. It may appear to be a simple task at first, but to know where to put each sample, you will need strong memory skills (or good note-taking!).

Why are you sorting the samples? That’s below your pay grade, for now.

Like with any job, Genome Sector workers have access to an employee handbook. However, this one may actually be useful! Consult it to learn about different sample types, sorting methods and to check up on your daily tasks. If you get really stuck, make use of the Ringo Helper, your friendly corporate guide. He can spot when you’ve made an error, but you can also ask him anything if you’re unsure.

Your Manager

Your Manager is your main point of contact for work tasks and updates. Be sure to check your emails as they will be the first to know whenever something changes in the sector. It’s their job to make sure you’re putting in 110%.

The Ringo CorpoNation has a special love for management hierarchy and you will have the opportunity to celebrate and show deference to your manager.

Over time, your manager will change the rules for sample sorting to match your skills and meet company quotas. It’s not just a sample’s appearance you have to worry about. As you progress, you will be asked to categorise them using extra information and process them using mechanisms on your workstation. You will develop work-based knowledge that no one outside of your sector can understand, but it will make you a better employee!

If you sort a sample incorrectly, you will not only lose out on valuable credits, but your paycheck will be docked. Make sure to follow the rules carefully! If you struggle to keep up with your duties as a citizen-employee, your Manager will reprimand you. Be sure not to let them down.

Performance reviews & promotions!

The CorpoNation eliminated the ineffectual weekend a long time ago. What’s more productive than working all day, every day, with no break and no holiday?

Despite this, the joys of the end of a work-week still remain in the Ringo CorpoNation. On each Day 5 after your shift ends, you will be subject to a performance review. Here your Manager will assess your accuracy and speed, and either reward or penalise you based on your overall sample sorting. You will receive a star rating for the week but this isn’t the only thing your Manager pays attention to.

If you worked hard enough and met the criteria, you will be promoted. Getting promoted in the CorpoNation will get you a bonus and a pay rise, so work hard to work your way up.

As you work your way up the corporate ladder, the CorpoNation will grant you access to new features. A powerful example is COFFEE, which (just like in real life) increases your productivity and burns away sleep, allowing you to pause the clock during your shift.

Another feature you can unlock is an oldie but a goody, Solitaire! Expand your evening’s gaming options on your home desktop computer and where you can practise dexterity for sample-sorting.

That's all for now, but we hope you enjoyed learning more about your work life at the RIngo CorpoNation. We’ll talk more about the joys of your home life in the next developer diary! In the meantime, work hard.

If you can’t wait to play CorpoNation we have a spoiler-free prologue available to play free on Steam.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2410980/CorpoNation_The_Prologue/

People often tell us that they’re already working for the CorpoNation in real life. We’d love to hear about some of your corporate horror stories! You can share them with us and get other updates and exclusives in our Discord.

Robocraft 2 - Freejam_ChrisC
One of the requested features players have been asking for is indicators which allow you to see what way a particular part is able to turn. These have existed in Robocraft 1 for a little while and were something we have been wanting to add to Robocraft 2. Here’s how it looked in Robocraft 1:

In Robocraft 1, these indicators were active at all times while building. This didn’t look great and made it very difficult for players to get a good screenshot of their machine in the build bay. In Robocraft 2, we have decided to only show the yellow indicators whilst you are looking at that particular part.

This change will be especially useful for players who like to take great-looking photos of their robocraft in the building bay!

These yellow arrows are also a way to teach players about the various parts of the game and how they will function when bringing them into battle. It’s actually quite easy now to check if you’ve mistakenly put non-steering wheels on your robot!

But one of the major improvements that these indicators assist with is creating custom gun rigs! The red arrows need to point towards the front of your robocraft to aim where your crosshairs are facing.

They will be coming as part of the next update and will be visible for the following parts

  • Wheels
  • Jets
  • All powered joints
  • All passive joints
  • Aim servos
  • All-In-One Turrets

Make sure to add Robocraft 2 to your wishlist and register for the Playtest if you want to join us in a couple of weeks to play the next big update!
