Warped Times - Satik64
Recently, I finished designing the village, which has been the most difficult and complex level in the game so far. As I tried to write a short post about it, I realized how interesting the village's development was, and I felt I could write much more about it. So, I wanted to share this personal goal with you and create a more specific devlog about the process of designing this particular part of the game :)

Importance of the village
The village itself will be one of the most crucial scenes in the game. After traveling from the dystopian dimension, it will serve as the main safe haven for the player, and it will also be the central focus of the game's storyline. For these reasons, I wanted to invest more time in its design to make it unique, as players will revisit it several times, and it has the potential to become an iconic part of the game.

Searching the right style
I must admit that it proved to be a more challenging task than I expected. Prior to designing the village, I had worked on the dimensional portals, which was also quite challenging because I wanted something slightly different from existing creations. So, I gathered many inspirations and combined them, ultimately opting for a triangle shape. It's not as commonly used, and when decorated with specific symbols from the Warped Times universe and animated, it looks fine.

Approaching the design of the village, I followed a similar path. I spent many hours searching for interesting pictures of various fantasy villages. However, unlike the portals, which can be designed more abstractly, I discovered that many villages look very similar. I was determined to create something distinctive and unique to the Warped Times world, but it was difficult as I don't consider myself much of a designer or concept artist; I just do my best to make things look good.


Collecting the inspirations

In the end, drawing inspiration from the original Warped Times proved to be very helpful. I kept simple vector shapes from the old games in mind and tried to combine them with other inspirations. After several attempts, I achieved a design whose architecture is quite specific to the game.


Original village design

Since I wanted the village to have a little more depth in its levels (allowing the entire village to fit on one screen, making movement for the player easier and more interesting), I decided to create the individual houses in 3D. Additionally, the bridges have already been converted into 3D, making the decision straightforward.

Experimenting with the right textures and colors took some time, and the 3D model itself is currently the most advanced in the whole game. Nevertheless, I am pleased with the result as it blends well with the scene. It's possible that there is a slight contrast with the 2D characters in the village, but that holds true for the entire game. Designing more complicated characters would have been very challenging, and personally, I believe the simpler characters fit well within the game.

Using skills learned from Warped Times
In the village, I used almost every skill that I have learned from working on Warped Times thus far. Besides combining all nature environments in the background layers, the village contains dynamic water, grass movement, material shaders for computing depth in every sprite, and many more effects. The most challenging part was creating the waterfall. Since the whole level is already the most expensive scene in the game (I am hoping for big optimization), I could only use a small number of particles for the waterfall. Fortunately, I managed to generate a complex waterfall in an empty Unity project, and it works well. Combining this rendered animation with a small selection of other in-game particle effects saved a lot of performance, and it still looks good.

Now, the biggest challenge will be bringing life to the village and using it as a connection between the intro and the first environment. I already have some characters and player's movement finished for the village, but the whole story is still waiting to be told.

Before concluding the talk about the village, I feel it's essential to mention that I invested all my energy into preparing another build for Game Access, where I met new players and gathered valuable feedback. I unfortunately took for now the longest break from Warped Times.

Nevertheless, I am finally beginning to implement ideas from this feedback and slowly working on new features. For example, the dynamic lava based on the water script is already finished, which allows me to create a few levels inspired by the original game. Now, on July Dev Notes, we would like to give you a sneak peek at what is to be expected in August 2023 in addition to the TALK:SIDE broadcast earlier.



【 Alternium Reactor 】

Alternium Reactor is a growth system created to assist units that are left behind due to power inflation over time due to stronger units released at a later time.

As of this moment, there is already a growth system called [rearmament] in CounterSide, but this system requires a tremendous amount of resources, and we also came to the conclusion that this is the cause of the power inflation. To reduce the total amount of required expenditures and adjust the power inflation to a certain degree, the Alternium Reactor system is developed.

The requirement to unlock the Alternium Reactor for each unit is to reach level 110 and level 5 on all the skills. It will also require two new currencies, pure possibilities, tuning core, and credits. First, pure possibilities can be earned through daily punch-ins, events, or other limited places. Second, the tuning core can be acquired by combining factor binders from supply operations and APT cores.

As mentioned earlier, the resources consumed by the Alterium Reactor can only be obtained through gameplay, and we plan to continuously monitor and adjust the difficulty of acquiring these resources.

▷ Will cast Special Skill regardless of current cooldown status and will be immortal for 10 seconds before her death.


【 Delta Seven Jaina Kropel 】


▷ When her Passive Skill is active, her ASPD will increase by 100% as well as her fury will count as 2 instead of 1 for each basic attack.


【 Police SWAT 4 Lee Yumi 】


▷Upon casting a Special Skill, a 20% barrier relative to her maximum HP will be applied to herself.

The employees in the example above will first receive their Alternium Reactor upgrades. The number of employees with the Alternium Reactor upgrades will increase through future updates.

The Alterium Reactor is composed of 5 levels, and with each update, selected employees will sequentially unlock each level of the Alterium Reactor.

All the employees will be able to unlock one Alterium Reactor level per update, and it is not planned for all 5 levels to be unlocked at once on an update.

The specifications of the Alternium Reactor example above may change.


【 Origin 】

When creating a new unit, the development team always thoughtfully planned its purpose in the game. However, with the accumulation of the service, we concluded that the combat in the game is getting complicated. This resulted in not being able to provide all the necessary information to the players for them to strategize new levels and having difficulties in setting appropriate difficulties for each content.

To be more intuitive and get the upper hand on PVE, we have developed an Origin system.

Now, the Origin is a concept similar to a combination of unit role advantage and type.

If units with the correct Origin are deployed on the field, then those units will deal more damage or take in less damage from the monster.

The goal of the Origin system is to provide the players with the excitement of strategizing through content by deploying correct units based on the system. Moreover, the Origin system will be applied not only to the newly released units but also to units that were released some time back.

The Origin system will not make friendly units take more damage or be implemented in the PVP contents such as gauntlet.

The Origin system is planned to be released in the second half of the year 2023, and further details will be released through a separate announcement.


【 Prestige 2nd Season 】



The 2nd season of Prestige, Midsummer Tryst, will start on August 1, 2023. We first apologize for the break between the first and the second season of the Prestige system.

A lot of CEOs have sent in various feedback about rewards for each step and rewards after acquiring the final reward.

To provide our CEOs with a more satisfying Prestige service, we have taken a break to prepare and improve the mid-tier reward for the usage of the Prestige system and after acquiring the final reward.

For the mid-tier rewards, we have increased the rewards by approximately 70% compared to the previous Prestige season. Additionally, we have structured the rewards with items that our CEOs valued the most.

Furthermore, for every 2,500 admin coins used after the 80k mark, players will be able to get a Prestige random box.

Refer to the table below to see the composition of the renewed Prestige system as well as the Prestige random box.

This random box feature requires an app update which will be carried out on August 9, 2023.

As such, if a player has spent more than 80k admin coins between August 1 and August 9, Prestige random boxes will be delivered through the in-game mailbox after the maintenance on the 9th.

Additionally, the First Purchase Special for the Admin Coin package will be reset on August 1st.


【 Multi-Purchase Feature on Today's Deals 】

Previously on Today’s Deals, CEOs had to click individual items in order to purchase the items. Now, with the multi-purchase feature, CEOs can check on what he or she wants to purchase first and then buy them all at once after the update. We expect accidental purchases using quartz will decrease with this feature.


【 Workshop Improvement 】

Workshop will receive an improvement.

Production slots and crafting time will be deleted, and the maximum limit for creating an item will increase greatly. However, this limit will not apply to items that require molds.

The quartz used to purchase production slots will be refunded through in-game mailbox and urgent crafting coupons will be refunded to credits based on the number of coupons you have.

If there are ongoing crafting items in the workshop during the maintenance, the crafting will be canceled and the items used for that crafting will be refunded through in-game mailbox.


【 Swift Relic Gear Improvement 】

Swift Relic gear’s crafting difficulty will be improved.

First, upon crafting Swift Relic gears, the probability of crafting SSR and SR rarity is increased by more than 100%, and the appearance of R rarity has decreased by nearly 50%.

Second, the values of the latent ability have been increased. The values of the items you currently possess will also be raised proportionally. You can check the updated Swift Relic options in the table below.

【 Dimension Relic Gear Improvement 】

The total number of the set option will remain at 16, but under-used role advantage option sets and barrier enhancement sets will be deleted and new options are added.

To enable the utilization of Dimension Relic gears in even more diverse situations, the required number of gears for some set options will be reduced from 4 to 2, and the values of set options received when wearing the full set of the gear will be increased.

◆ Flame/Wild Relic Set Option (Modified July 24 20:00 UTC-5)

As you clear higher stages in Dimension Trimming [Volcano: Trimming Flame] and [Jungle: Trimming Wild], the probability of obtaining more Dimension Cubes increases.

As of the 70th stage, we have reduced the time required to craft one Maze gear by approximately 40%.

Dimension Relic gears will have some 1st tuning options removed and more specialized options will be added. Existing gears will become "Legacy" gear after the maintenance on August 9th, and no longer be craftable.

You can continue to use or sell the "Legacy" Relic gears you currently possess and use them to craft new Relic gears.

Furthermore, some latent options for Wild Relic gears and Flame Relic gears will be enhanced, and the potential option values of the existing Legacy Relic gears will be increased proportionally.

At a high enough level you might be able to take it on solo, but doing it in a party (up to 6 players) is recommended. You'll benefit greatly from having combat stats at least around level 80-90 and a handful of skills in the same ballpark. With a well trained party, you might be able to get away with having less high level skills. Teamwork is key!

There is no cost to enter raids and there is no limit how many raids you can complete, but you will need to have a total of 25 bosses slain before you can start raiding. Note that boss kills prior to this update weren't recorded, so everyone starts fresh here.

With Reckoning of the Gods, almost two dozen new items were introduced to the game along with a couple of related new crafting tasks. I won't list them here, but you can check most of them out in the new Raids tab in-game.

Other changes
- Deputy leaders can now claim leadership of a clan where the current leader has been offline for a minimum of 14 days
- Melee 2-handers now perform their attacks about 15% faster
- All crossbows were buffed
- Devil's defences were nerfed
- Boss kills are now tracked and visible from the "PvM stats" popup from your profile. You'll be awarded kills when being in a party that takes down a boss.
- The loading popup will now automatically close after 10 seconds in case something unexpected happens with a server request
- Chimera and Griffin were nerfed a bit
- Removed the clan credits boost text from the Clan property page as the boost is no longer available or held by any clan
- Loot from monsters and raids is now sorted by rarity in the loot info popup
- Disabled the item refinement popup that appeared a couple of seconds after refining an item. The original purpose of that popup was to broadcast refinements to other players, but that ended up being way too spammy and was disabled shortly after the game's release.
- Solo boss runs can now be set to end same as group boss runs
- Task stats popup no longer counts in active ad boost for level up estimations as it tends to be more misleading than useful

Bug fixes
- Fixed lifesteal effect causing auto-eat to break sometimes
- Fixed whitelist names not being scrollable
- Fixed hovered popups sometimes getting stuck on screen when unexpectedldy switching views
- Fixed item interaction sliders not going above 9,999,999
- Mango has been discontinued. RIP.
- Fixed solo boss rounds not appearing to end client side on your final key
- Fixed pressing the gold icon in your inventory crashing the client if you had no gold
- The issue where you would get disconnected without the client detecting it after being idle for some time should be fixed
- Fixed housing upgrades displaying the wrong house icon after the initial upgrade
- Fixed Auto cook upgrade not working properly when offline
- Fixed the Idle Clans Discord bot using some old localization keys
- You can no longer input larger amounts than you can afford in the input field in the shop confirmation popup in Local market
- When refining an item and quickly attempting to refine another item, it would appear as if you received clan credits for the second item (visual bug). Fixed.

👩🏻‍💻‍ Server Testing

We've recently invited some players and content creators for a small-scale test, and have fixed the bugs found during the testing period. Additionally, we've conducted a round of stress testing on the servers, simulating the game situation with hundreds of thousands of players. This stress test will be repeated twice more in August. Before the game launch in September, we will invite tens of thousands of players for a few days of online testing. Detailed information about the sign-up process will be announced in August.



🦄 Costume Color System

We've added the updated outfit variant system to the game, you will be able to choose different color schemes for certain characters and outfits. Now, who wouldn't love a pink Macchiato?





🏆 Achievement System

There are about 100 achievements in game. Some achievements require players to show off their skills, such as winning a quick match in the fighter jet map without fighting; while others reflect your sportsmanship, like fighting on the final podium and win.





🚧 Tutorial Level Remake

Our designers are remaking the tutorial levels. The new tutorial will have three independent levels, each level will be twice or even longer than the original. The new tutorial may not be immediately available at game launch, but it will be updated to the game within the first 3 months after launch.





👤 Privacy Protection System

We've added a new privacy protection system to the game. Players can now choose to block chat, player names, lobby names, and friend invitations, etc.





🎮 XBOX FINAL

Party Animals just passed the Final Certification on XBOX! The game will be launched on the XBOX platform on September 20th on time.



🗺 Chinajoy and Gamescom

Party Animals will be going to Chinajoy, and we will also join the XBOX team at Gamescom in Germany, where we will showcase some new maps. We look forward to your participation and valuable feedbacks.

They decided they had missed many titles in their earlier list of '10 Underrated Horror Games Released In the Last Decade.' We were delighted to see a couple of Wired classics make this new list of FandomWire's list of underrated horror games.

The Town of Light.

"Town of Light is an interesting first-person psychological horror game that deals with themes surrounding mental illness and sexual abuse across mental health institutions in the early 20th century.
