Odd Realm - Sleipnir
Hi hi!

That's right, I've got a release date in sight for the Lost Legends update, July 24th. Things are shaping up well, and I'm hoping to release into beta in a couple weeks to get some testing. Let's see what I've been up to since the last dev log.

More UI stuff???

I've been working a lot on trying to make the game easier to use and less frustrating. I've got improvements in this update for AI and gameplay, but UI is a big part of the pain that I see players experiencing. So, I've put tons of time towards making things simpler, clearer, and more intuitive.

Uniforms

I've done some clean-up on how uniforms work, and are interacted with in the UI. Players can now create uniforms and assign them to a bunch more options. You can still assign them to control groups and professions, but also many other things like skills, gender, effects, etc. This will be key for players that want entities to switch uniforms when in various states. For example, when in combat, and not.

I'm also making uniform priority clearer to help understand why an entity is using a certain item or not.

Block Tooltips (And Layers!)

It can be confusing understanding what a block 'layer' is, let alone what it contains. Block tooltips now have options to toggle the visibility of layers around the block your cursor is on. In the above gif, you can see me toggling the visibility for the block layer above the one I'm on. This is helpful to see what is above and below the selection I'm about to make.

Additionally, I've increased the size of tooltip icons. This should make things a bit easier to see.

The tooltip also shows what is stacked on the cursor's block. No longer do you need to select a block to see that what plants, platforms, items it has. And speaking of items...

You can expand the block tooltip to show a visualization of its contents. I find this extremely helpful when I want to see contents at a glance. You can still see a detailed list and inventory of items within a block, but this is part of a new 'selections' panel.

Entities Tooltip

Much like the block tooltip, I've done lots of work to make it easier to see important info for an entity. Everything is now compartmentalized based on functionality. Attacks grouped together, survival stats grouped together, status effects grouped together, etc.

Much like the block tooltip, you can expand the window to see more, less important, info. This expanded window shows everything that the entity window did, so I decided to remove that window altogether. You can also now see what rooms, jobs, and skills entities are using/doing from here too. Don't worry, there are still other windows to edit these things on a settlement-wide scale. This is just here if you want to see and edit individual info quickly.

Performance Improvements

I wrote a whole new system for displaying tooltips/text which is much, much more efficient. Tooltips and UI text were a huge drain on performance, and now it runs very fast. This should provide noticeable FPS gains for a lot of the lower end machines, if not for everyone.

Final Thoughts

I'm finishing up these last few polish items and tuning tasks. Very excited for everyone to see the new changes. Overall, I think this will be a huge improvement for QoL, but you'll also get lots of new content to check out. It's going to be great!

As always, thank you for reading and for the support!

That's right, the Store page is up along with the description and you can go Wishlist it right now!
We highly recommend you do so, because all updates concerning the upcoming game will be posted there.

Right now the Store page includes all the info we've posted so far and a bit more. We will also continue updating the Store page screenshots with future character reveals.

With the DommeBreaker Store page now live, we also wanted to discuss a very important matter regarding the business side of this game: the release date. We're putting a lot of content into this game. We're working faster than ever, but it's just going to take time to finish everything and give you a complete package. Believe us, we wish we could release this game today, but it's just not ready yet and won't be for a while. Be patient and we promise it'll be worth it.

On a related topic, we also want to give an explanation for why we won't be doing an Early Access partial release before the whole thing is complete. We have been burned in the past, as we assume you also have, by Early Access games that made little to no progress; only to disappear with no further word from the dev team. It's depressing, it gives Early Access titles a bad name and it's honestly heart-breaking when a very promising game just fizzles out. Our own negative experiences with Early Access have left us feeling like that's not a space we want to be in.

Furthermore, DommeBreaker is designed in a way where the parts affect one another. To release, for instance, only the Emily content would make no sense from a gameplay perspective. You'd end up with an Early Access version that feels empty and confusing, because the different character stories are meant to be played alongside one another rather than one at a time. If anything, it would give players a bad first impression of the game.

In more exciting news, it's time for the July Twitter poll! We're going to be showing off the new art for another returning character in the July Community post and you guys get to choose which one. Follow the link to the poll and let us know which returning character you're more excited to see next month. There's really no bad option, though ;)

Lifespace Traveler - dinaga
Hi there!

It was a joy seeing you try the game for the first time! I'm happy you liked the game, and I'm very grateful for your feedback on how I can further improve it!

This is the first gameplay patch, where I addressed the following issues:

Improved Dodge Roll
The number one complaint about the game was that the dodge roll mechanic felt unfair, as you could still take damage while rolling. I have fixed the dodge roll invincibility frames, making your rolls much more satisfying!

Addressed Cheap Stunlock Moments
I hear you loud and clear! Being stunlocked to death by enemy combos or overwhelmed by groups of katana-wielding angry robots is not cool. Now, with sufficient stamina, you will have a better opportunity to roll away to safety. This change promotes fair and engaging combat. However, remember that it doesn't mean you can rush headlessly into danger!

Balanced Stamina, Health, and Damage
This patch includes adjustments to health and damage values, preventing individual enemy fights from becoming tedious. Additionally, your stamina will now recharge faster, and you'll enjoy a slight increase in sprinting speed!

Fixed Visual Jitter on Elevated Platforms
In the initial version of the game, an unsightly visual glitch occurred when the player character briefly 'flashed' while stepping on elevated platforms like sidewalks or stairs. I have resolved this issue, and the visual jitter is now eliminated!

Improved Vital Strike
Previously, the Vital Strike (critical attack) could only be performed on locked-on enemies, which proved to be a poor decision. I have made a significant improvement: now you can perform Vital Strikes on any enemy, even multiple at once, regardless of whether you are locked onto them or not!

Revised Tutorial Phone Booths
I noticed that some players overlooked the tutorial phone booths that provide control information. To enhance visibility, I have strategically relocated them, ensuring you won't miss them this time!

Fixed Dialogue Display Bugs
Some instances of dialogue were displayed outside the dialogue boxes, causing readability issues. I have revised the dialogue display to ensure that all dialogue is properly contained within the boxes.

That's all for now! Thank you once again for helping me improve Lifespace Traveler. I highly appreciate all your feedback! Enjoy the game. :)

- Allows caves to "re-roll" their cave color, which should help existing worlds have a better crystal balance.

This major update brings 2 all new chance events & changes to the slot machine.

Chance events are luck-based random chance minigames like the slot machine event that has been in the game since launch. This update introduces the coin flip and wheel spin events to the game to provide some bonus help and excitement to your runs!

Coin Flip Event
Test your luck through the flip of the coin and win big with it's payout rewards! Pick your side, charge up your coin flip, and let it go - just hope it lands on your choice! Risk it all with the double or nothing double-down, after successfully winning once, do you have what it takes to repeat your luck?

Wheel Spin Event
Prove your skills with the wheel and win it all! Charge up your spin and watch the wheel go as it ticks past all the potential prizes to be won. Time your charge perfectly and you might just win the jackpot.

Event Rewards & Slot Machine Changes
All events have the potential to payout with several rewards:
  • Exp coins
  • Exp gems
  • Exp magnets
  • Skulls (damage to enemies)
  • HP pickups
The value of the exp coins is determined by your progress in the game. The further into your run, the greater the exp value. This is now applied to the slot machine odds too meaning you can no longer get the largest exp jackpot in the first few minutes. However, greater exp value coins can still appear with reduced chance relative to your progress.

Preview Animations
Event preview animations have been added to provide extra flair and make them appear less static before you interact with them. Slot machines display spinning panels, the chance wheel spins, & the coin will flip while they wait for you to use them.

New Achievements
Lastly, there are 4 new event-related achievements to hunt in this update. Earn all the rewards you can to unlock them!
