REFERENCES + CONCEPT
Every journey begins with a single step, and in our quest to create authentic clothing for Sengoku Dynasty, it starts with establishing an extensive reference board. This stage involves collecting an array of concept art, historical and cinematic references, photographs from museum exhibits, and tailoring patterns. Our priority here is to ensure a realistic and faithful representation of the historical context. We even learn how these clothes are worn as it is often a form of ritual, different from what we are used to in our culture. This step helps us make sure our clothes not only look real but also match the historical period.



HIGH-POLY SCULPTING
Once we've simulated the cloth physics to give the garment its life-like folds, we delve into the sculpting of details on the high-poly model. The process involves smoothing the clothing, making shape adjustments in specific areas, and meticulously refining the folds by hand. If the result matches our vision, we further accentuate the model by adding signs of wear and tear, protruding threads, and memory folds - the distinctive creases that form from the regular use of the garment.











RETOPOLOGY (LOW-POLY MODEL)
Post-sculpting, we transition into creating the low-poly mesh. Proper optimization of this mesh is key to ensuring fluid gameplay. The retopology is conducted manually, poly by poly, as we lay out vertices, edges, and polygons on top of the high-poly mesh. This meticulous approach allows for smooth deformation of the mesh when the clothes are animated. Once the low-poly model is complete, we unwrap the UV maps and generate maps to carry over all the meticulously sculpted details onto the model.



TEXTURING
Now we're ready to breathe life into our models through texturing. Using the previously baked maps, we add fabric textures and patterns. The textures are then enriched with details indicative of everyday use, such as dirt, wear, and tear, and signs of usage. To enhance realism, we also hand-draw protruding threads and tears. It's worth noting that in ancient Japan, only the wealthiest could afford the elegance of silk garments, whereas the common folk donned attire made from linen and cotton.



FINAL TOUCHES
Finally, our completed model takes the stage in the game engine. Here, we transform our prepared textures into materials and add appropriate shaders. These shaders work their magic, altering how light dances on the material. The outcome? A virtual piece of clothing that promises to immerse you into the heart of the Sengoku Dynasty.

Progress is still good. There is currently 3 hours of content and growing...

The game is at the point where the common route splits into different branches. It's hard to estimate where the development progress is at exactly. Maybe it's a little over halfway done, possibly?

Somehow this is becoming a rather large thing. I will certainly miss the story once it's done, but right now it is a lot to handle. Doable for sure, but a lot nonetheless.

All in all, things are still looking fine and on schedule. I'll announce the release date once I'm certain of when the game will be done.

Hello, astronauts!

Our team has made significant improvements to the core elements of the game and is ready to present a new demo version. The list provided below will introduce you to the coolest changes that will make your adventure even more fun and thrilling.

  • The game's main menu has become even more beautiful, convenient, and intuitive. Now, even in low-gravity conditions, you can easily and quickly find the item you need.
  • An interface has been added for the portable assistant P.E.S. (OS). It provides instant access to inventory, task list, message list, and the space station mini-map. We wanted to add the ability to listen to music and watch TV shows, but thought that you might get distracted and lost.
  • Significant improvements have been made to the sound design. The sounds of locations, various types of weapons, and equipment have become more realistic for total immersion. We are sure that the updated enemy shrieks and character voices will not leave anyone indifferent.
  • Speaking of characters, get ready to meet VOLGA - a bold and mischievous artificial intelligence of the space station that… ahem… will introduce you to the first dangerous boss - the loader robot KAMA.
  • For those who love to search for secret rooms, there's a pleasant surprise - a fog of war that disappears with a mystical sound as you enter the room. But be careful, as the fog may hide not only rewards but dangers too.
  • Another interesting addition is the developers' room. This is a bonus location where you can go through a real training simulation, test different types of weapons and equipment for passing laboratory tests. Try to collect all the hidden crystals.
  • Please read the new messages carefully. You will encounter them in the most unexpected places. They will gradually reveal the mystery of what's happening on the station and introduce you to the game world.
  • We must also mention that LAIK is now more emotional. He will be joyful, angry, and even scared, depending on the events around him. Don't scold him if he acts smart during training - it's just his character. In reality, he's cute and you'll befriend him.
  • Chongus will reappear in the game and Monkat will flash by several times. You ask who they are? We won't answer, will just smile mysteriously, and suggest you play to find the answers to all your questions yourself.
  • The bug clean-up is ongoing. The old bugs have been squashed and, to our knowledge, no new ones have snuck in.
  • Rejoice, controller users! The game is now more convenient for you, with control tips matched to your controller buttons. Now, both handheld and console play are a breeze.
  • Ultra-wide monitor users, we've got you covered! Enjoy a wider, more immersive experience with our new support feature.
  • And good news for Steamdeck users, we now support this platform as well! Get ready for an optimized experience.

Today we bear good and haunting news. Lunacy: Saint Rhodes will release on July 27th, 2023!

Moreover, we offer you the chance for a first taste of the atmospheric horrors lurking in the dark with the public demo during the Steam Next Fest from today until June 26th.



Experience the unnerving setting, and detailed world that slowly and tantalizingly reveals the story of what happened in the Rhodes family home. The demo will be about a 20-minute experience, depending on how many of the sights you decide to take in. We hope you have a good and terrifying - ah! we mean - a terrific time in St Rhodes.

Take in the sights and get ready to explore your tragic family history and confront your inner demons, whilst grappling with the feeling that you are permanently being watched; in the town of Saint Rhodes, you will never feel alone… or safe.

Welcome to Steam Next Fest!

We are absolutely thrilled to put our demo in hands of players. Here are some changes we've made over the weekend:

Content:
  • Added dynamic damage intents to monsters - now the damage number corresponds to actual damage you will receive and you don't have to calculate the status effects in your head
  • Added black background fade animations to events, rest and pause menu
  • Added new intent sprites for monsters
  • Added new text icons for bounces and damage

Balance:
  • Contained Muisak damage to all monsters per bounce reduced (2->1) - further nerf was needed

Fixes:
  • Fixed charity in shops (shopkeepers wouldn't take gold)
  • Fixed placeholder labels in Options
  • Fixed Options not being saved between scenes
  • Fixed various sounds not responding to sound settings

During this week we'll monitor the balance situation closely and address any raised issues. We are aware of a display bug concerning the flip indicator and will have it fixed shortly.
