Friends vs Friends - Animat3dM3
What's that, you say? You want to hear more about the rest of our character lineup at launch? Welllll alright then! If the likes of Duck Anderson and Moose Salto aren't tickling your fancy, that's ok. Because these friends are proficient in the likes of swordplay and invisibility.

We thought that might get your attention!

  • Beware of Little Lars's deceptive charm, as such proficiency in handling explosives surely comes at a cost. In a past life, they honed their craft as expert bomb defusers. Being resistant to explosions opens the door to becoming a bit reckless with them.

Passive: Thick Coat - Explosion resistant.

Recommended cards: Bomb Belt, Sticky Bomb, Punch-R

  • Started working on their dad's fishing boat when they were young and hasn't stopped working since. Hates working overtime but does it for the pay. They long for peace and solitude and have a secret dream to be a lighthouse keeper. Starting your matches with Stevie's powerful custom Boira is always useful, especially if you boost it even further!

Passive: Classic - Start each round with a custom Boira 9

Recommended cards: More Accuracy, Steel Bullets, Big Mag

  • Ever heard the story of the Hare and the Tortoise? That was all bull because Haru won that race by a mile! Being able to run super fast is a blessing. Add a couple of cards to your deck and you'll break the sound barrier in no time!

Passive: Runner - You move faster.

Recommended cards: Move Faster, Energy Drink, Invisible

  • Sable is a racing legend. They have a Gas-Gas bike they use for commuting and a vintage Ossa racer bike they have been repairing as a hobby. Occasionally plays bass with Spike when they're in town. Sable is the one that brings a sword to a gunfight! Their unearthly reflexes make blocking bullets a cakewalk.

Passive: Katana Lover - Start each round with a Katana.

Recommended cards: Move Faster, Double Jump, Empty Mag

  • You know those classic movie scenes where a person takes a seat at a table and discreetly aims their pistol at someone, hidden under the table? Well, that's Myk's style, except they use a machine pistol. The Brasshopper is a wild weapon. The fast rate of fire makes it lethal in most players' hands.

Passive: Brasslover - Start each round with the Brasshopper.

Recommended cards: Big Mag, Big Head, Bullet Time

Welp, you met our starting characters but there will be a bunch more to come! In fact, the next character drop is one that has been hotly requested in our forums ;) More on that in June when we get talking about our first big expansion!

cyberpunkdreams - crirosas4

A lot can happen in 10 years. It was 10 years ago that the seeds which would blossom into cyberpunkdreams began to take root, and while the game itself has only been on Steam for the last two years, there’s 10 years of work behind this increasingly ambitious adventure. Indeed, the opening lines of the game remain intact a decade later.

It’s been one hell of a journey and there’s still plenty of ground left to cover. We’re never likely to run out of ideas to keep the engines burning. And with that out of the way, let’s get cracking, shall we?

May updates
Our second anniversary event content dropped at the start of the month, including the return of the event story from last year. The traitor you choose is an engaging story that can and will have a lasting impact on your game. There’s various criteria you’ll need to meet to trigger it but play for long enough and you should get to experience this fan favourite tale.

Along with the return of this story, there was a new one for this anniversary – Deep stacks. Similarly to The traitor you choose, your decisions through this one can have a lasting impact on your game. To go along with this story, we added more content to Eastside Stacks (the name of the new story should be a giveaway of where it mostly happens) and a new location to discover in the Projects… plus a couple of new NPCs, but that’s a different story.

If you played the game during the anniversary but haven’t seen or finished either of these stories yet, then fear not: they’re unlocked for you now, and you’ll be able to play them as and when you meet the starting criteria.

We also introduced a deeper dive into the world of the city’s black clinics. These are the clinics that pop up and disappear without leaving a trace and allow players to indulge in some more creative medical work. Until now, they were always seen as little more than cheaper alternatives to the backstreet clinic, but now we’ve expanded the lore to give you all more of a taste of how this slice of the economy works in the world.

There’s also been a broad range of other updates, including:

  • Tweaks to the war mechanics
  • Quality of life improvements for pimps
  • More of Alessandra’s story
  • Buying drugs from local dealers
And a whole lot more! You can check out the full list right here, on Steam.

Call & Response
As well as all the regular activity in our Discord server, we host a bi-weekly (or so) writing prompt called Call & Response. We post a question or discussion topic, and you’re free to respond however you want. When each round closes, we reward the best and most creative responses with unique access codes. Recent prompts have included:
  • You've only ever had the chance to explore the lower levels of the Project -- both literally and in terms of their gang hierarchy. You've heard rumours about what lies above, but you can really only speculate…
  • What's your favourite urban legend about Cinci's slums? And is it really just a legend, or is there a grain of truth in there too?
  • Are you originally from Cinci? Has the organisation that's running you inadvertently sent you back to your old stomping ground? Or deliberately? Or would all that be total madness?
  • Jax goes to great lengths to keep himself hidden, even though his presence in Cinci's slums is an open secret to many. But is it really necessary? Do the corporations really care that much about one rogue researcher? And if they do, why?

On the subject of access codes, every time we run an event there are usually some codes to go along with it that we share in our server. They always get a great response, but a lot of people only join to get those codes and don’t look far enough to see all the other codes that are available there all the time. If that’s you, seriously, look beyond the announcements channel and you might find some things you’ll enjoy.

Don’t be afraid to say hi
As always, if you have something to say about the changes, have any ideas or questions, or just want to share your experiences in the Projects or the Bordertown, we’re here to absorb your feedback. Who knows, we might even act on it in the next update!

Feel free to join us in our discord server or on Twitter, where we’re always active with little snippets from the cpd universe.
Until next time!

Melody's Escape 2 - Loïc
Patch v0.5.4

This update adds new skins for Melody as well as the initial support for character skin modding!
Please note that there is no Steam Workshop functionality yet to share mods, the Workshop will come in a future update once the modding features are deemed stable.

If you would like to create mods for ME2, please join our Discord for the documentation and necessary resources, as it is still a work in progress.

Please join our Discord or the Discussions Forum to share your feedback about this new patch!

Changes
  • Added 4 new character skins for Melody (one of them is setup as a "mod", to test dynamic loading functionality)
  • Added a "Random" option for each cosmetic slot (skins, hairstyles, etc.) By default, this will generate a unique result for each track, but you can change this in the settings to always randomize your look.
  • Added initial support for character skin modding (skins, hairstyles, headphones and character colors)
  • Added cloth physics support for character skins, allowing the creation of intricate clothing accessories that react to Melody's movements and the wind (like dresses, scarves or ribbons)
  • Added a particle effect explosion on Melody's feet when she activates flying mode
  • Adjusted the "Jogging" and "Running" animations
  • Switched around the positions of the "Chain" and the "BPM" label on the in-game UI, for better readability of your current chain amount
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed mouse cursor auto-hide that would hide tooltips in the Custom Difficulty menu
  • Currently unavailable choices in the Customization menu are now properly disabled
  • Fixed a bug with the speed lines particle effect position
Dad by the Sword - Rocketcat Games
We're running another limited time public demo for Dad by the Sword for this Father's Day! It will go from June 16th to the 23rd, and have a slew of new content and tweaks, including the ability to pick a starting Dad Class! Read on for a list of details, and a summary of the six new starting classes.

Also, read on for news on the launch date for Dad by the Sword. We delayed that a bit, short summary is that really want to get more enemies and another full biome in the game before we launch it. You can see more of my reasoning and things we're thinking about now in the bottom section.

New Demo Content

We've been really busy! Here's a short list of the new stuff you'll be able to play with in the demo:

  • 6 new player classes you can pick from! They each have their own bonuses to different playstyles. Read the next section for some details
  • Revamped tutorial! It's a little longer, has real combat practice segments (with you being immortal during it), and covers more things
  • We revamped the mouse controls to be kind of a mix between Mordhau and Mount and Blade: Bannerlord. This actually took a lot less time than I thought it would, and feels great to me. I want a lot more opinions on this control style, as I still prefer the WASD Dark Messiah-style controls
  • Gamepad support! It's not in for menus as I type this, but it's in for gameplay. This was requested a lot for the first demo
  • The amount of possible room types more than doubled!
  • The amount of possible weapons that can generate about doubled
  • How weapon special attacks work was revamped entirely
  • Rare golden enemies can spawn. They're dangerous, but fragile. Killing them gives the player a bunch of bonuses right away, including a sword full repair and a guaranteed critical hit
  • New dadcessories!
  • Lots more tweaks and requests

I'm really eager to hear what people think of all the new changes, particularly the Dad Classes and the gamepad and revamped mouse controls.

Dad Classes

You can now pick a Dad Class, each with their own perks and equipment. Here are a few examples:

Left to Right:

  • CYBERDAD starts with A GUN and a cybernetic arm a golf club (currently). His unique perk makes it so every 6th kill with a ranged dadcessory (pistols, shortguns, nailguns, etc) puts +1 CRITICAL POWER on his sword. Because this is so reliable, you could just stack Crit Power on a side sword all day without swinging it, then hit a boss for 27 criticals in a row with one swing.
  • LONGDAD has a long reach and a cool hairstyle. He starts with the Longish Sword, which has a lot of range compared to any of the early game swords. His unique perk gives him extra bonus range with his sword strikes the lower his health gets, and his second perk gives him one free critical hit whenever he takes damage.
  • FENCERDAD is for players that want more flashy technique in their swordplay. His starting sword and two starting perks all focus on bonuses with the Parry mechanic. He also starts with a pair of shoes that let him reflect enemy projectiles when kicking them, and doing so gives him a speed bonus.

The other starting classes in the demo are POWERDAD, who has weak starting equipment but two nice critical-focused perks to start, HANDYDAD, a dadcessory specialist, and DEFENDAD, a tanky defense focused class that starts with a shield. DEFENDAD gets to go to the top of the list, as I think that and POWERDAD will be the most welcoming classes for new players.

We're shooting for about 15 Dad Classes in the final game, and currently have about 12 planned total.

Dad by the Sword Launch

I'm delaying the launch. With all the things we added, we did not have enough people to also finish implementing the enemies we almost have ready to go. We also have not finished the next biome, I'd say we're about a quarter done with the rooms. After the demo, we'll be focusing on the new monsters and blasting through the new Sand Zone biome.

During the demo period, I'm going to discuss with the team what exactly the kind of launch we want to do. Originally the plan was to do an Early Access launch with just the one biome, as other games have done this in the past with a lot of success. This just doesn't strongly appeal to me as a player, I'm not sure what the general opinion of this is now. I'm guessing the time for this may have passed.

Current plans are to either do an Early Access launch with at least 2 biomes and their enemies, maybe something like 2.5 biomes if we can. Then have some placeholder quick endgame and a final boss, so the game can still be beaten. Then Early Access would be about simply making more content. New monsters, biomes, weapons and items, an extended endgame, more Dad classes, so on. We would want to launch this before the year was over, and then shoot for a 1.0 launch for around Father's Day 2024 (I really want to launch around here so we can be the "ULTIMATE Father's Day game").

Thoughts on this? Wait longer for a more full EA launch, or launch as soon as we can? Comment below, or on our Twitter @rocketcatgames. There's also our Official Rocketcat Discord, on the #dad-by-the-sword channel.
