We are excited to announce the dev-blog series about our comfy gardening sim! Since this is our first post, we think it would be best to answer the question that most people who know us will surely have: why a gardening simulator all of a sudden? Aren’t we that Bus Simulator studio?
First – yes, we are indeed that Bus Simulator studio - but Garden Life is being created by a very different team. The game's producer, Kay, is very knowledgeable about flowers, gardening and many other cool plant related things, which is directly reflected in our core gameplay. She previously was a florist and a floral designer with several awards: Chelsea Flower Show Gold (2016) and Silver (2012) medals and Young Florist of the Year 2016. Cool, right? And, to be honest, we’ve always wanted to try creating something new and different. A garden sim looked like a perfect game to explore.
Why? Because there’s not a lot of gardening games out there. Too simple of a reasoning, maybe? Well, it’s the truth. And we want to try and “digitalize” gardening. Isn’t it super fun to see your plants and flowers grow, change overtime and finally, bloom? Real life gardening can be very messy and not everyone has the space for a garden. That's where Garden Life comes in!
The plant care system and plants themselves are based on their real world counterparts and gameplay will feel very close to a real garden. That’s the sim part. But we also made sure to make it feel very chill and relaxed; stress and pressure free. There’s no punishment for doing something “wrong”, there’s no sense of running out of time or resources. Garden Life is more about the peace and beauty that comes with your own garden, full of beautiful plants, flowers and decorations. That is exactly why we picked an anime – more exactly a Studio Ghibli – inspired art style: it’s very, very cozy. Just looking at it should evoke a feeling of calm serenity, a union with nature and all its beauties. You can play entirely at your own pace, grow your garden slowly and make it become a blooming plant paradise!
We’d love to jump deeper into mechanics but we are running out of time already. For the next blog, what would you like to know about first? The plant care system? Or maybe you’d like to see what kinda flowers and tools will be available in the game? Tell us in the comments!
And don’t forget to wishlist and follow Garden Life here, on Steam.
Today's update brings some CPU performance improvements and a couple fixes for yesterday's update.
Improvements:
Reduced CPU usage of projectiles and damage numbers. Projectiles are still the main source of CPU usage of the game, but it should be noticeably less now.
If the game falls below 15FPS, some effects, damage numbers and calculations will be skipped to help with performance.
Bugfixes:
Fixed new challenges showing a star icon in some places.
Fixed missing localization for Health syphon stat (used in Vampire gauntlets).
Have you ever played darts, or pool, or whatever in a pub?🕹️ We'd say that's half of what pubs are made for! And this spirit of competitive minigame nonsensity finds its outlet in Brewpub Simulator! 🍻
Yes, we do have games. All the ones you'd expect.
Darts, where you can show off your skills in targeting that one spot that everyone looks for but has trouble reaching 🎯
Pool 🎱, with the exact same table that Arnold threw that biker on in Terminator 2. (Nah, we're kidding. But then, how can you verify it?)
And an arcade machine, which comes with something very special. 👾 HIGH SCORES! Can you beat your customers? What happens if you throw a beer at them while they play? 🎮 You can answer this and many more urgent questions.
Somewhat related to the previous paragraph is a very special minigame we call Making Patrons' Life Miserable 🧍. Note that it's not necessary to play it to beat the game. We would even discourage you from playing it. But what can we do?
Don't treat your patrons like that starting June 12 📅. Get ready for the release by adding our game to your wishlist! And check out Sports: Renovations playtest in the meantime.
Chicken fellows! As promised, we begin our eggceptional giveaway! We've already sent the copies of the games, so if you had the Screaming Chichen game, check your library, the Biped game should be there already! And vice versa, if you had Biped, Screaming Chicken: Ultimate Showdown should appear in your Steam library! If the game didn't show up, try to log out and log in to your Steam account. If it doesn't work, contact us via email: team@metapublishing.io or on our Discord server! Please, note that the Screaming Chicken giveaway for Biped owners will last till May 18 , 9 a.m. PDT, and the Biped giveaway for Screaming Chicken owners - till May 21!
After several years and many campaign installments, Panzer Corps 2’s Axis Operations Grand Campaign has finally arrived at 1945 and the end of the Second World War. Thank you to all our community members and players who have been with us on this epic journey, especially those who have been with us since the very beginnings in the Spanish Civil War!
As with 1944 before it, Axis Operations 1945 will have dual campaigns on offer: one path continuing with the historical conclusion of WWII, and another path to continue down an alternate history pathway.
In this first Dev Diary, we’ll be previewing and talking about the Historical Campaign Axis Operations 1945 will include.
Historical 1945
For a campaign that is doing as much as possible to stay true to historical outcomes, there is a lot to say about Historical 1945. We originally thought it would be a pretty obvious course to chart, just pick real battles from history and recreate them in Panzer Corps 2.
But as we researched the final months of the War in Europe, we found the situations and history to be extremely complicated. How could the German Wehrmacht, famous for such incredible victories across Western and Eastern Europe, seem to disintegrate so quickly in a matter of months?
To properly tell this story, Axis Operations 1945 has some very unusual scenario designs behind it. Prestige awards have been practically eliminated, to try and show how crippling German’s supply situation had become by this stage in the war.
Instead of prestige allotments, the player will be expected to begin to salvage and disband their reserve units in an attempt to keep their main fighting force fit enough to continue the struggle.
Other reward systems have also been reworked to directly deposit captured enemy vehicles straight to the player reserve. These units can then be pressed into service to try and plug gaps in your lines, or they too can be disbanded for prestige to keep your main Panzer force operational.
On top of this, the days of conquering all victory hexes and sweeping all enemy units from the entire map are long past. This was an especially delicate balance to strike, because we needed scenarios designed in such a way that they would be possible for players to succeed in some way to continue their overall campaign, but also designed that if players tried to push further than their basic objectives, overwhelming Allied forces are ready to grind your now prestige starved force into dust.
This kind of scenario design has had a lot of unusual side effects and really opened up Axis Operations 1945 to have a lot more storytelling of the situation Germany and its Wehrmacht found itself in the final months of the war. There are some pretty large maps with hundreds of individually configured and scripted units spread across them, but don’t forget that fancy new fast AI turn if you don’t want to watch all of these units take their actions individually!
The Sun Sets on the Axis Operations
As any good story needs an ending, Axis Operations 1945 has done its best to conclude its own story. Over the years, both of the war and in real time, we’ve come to meet many characters in the Axis Operations series
Axis Operations 1945 will not only offer a glimpse into the historical fates of famous Germans such as Adolf Galland, but a look into the fate of the special briefing characters. Their paths have been woven into the true historical narrative... for better or for worse!
So get ready to prepare your Panzers for their final campaign. Gone are the days of German conquests of Europe, now is the time to fight for survival!
But of course, that is not the only ending Axis Operations 1945 will have on offer. There is the entire Ahistorical Campaign path to explore. Whether or not that trail will continue past 1945 remains to be seen...
Test Feedback
As always, we are reading and listening to your feedback. Many thousands of posts and messages have greatly improved Panzer Corps 2 for its entire playerbase, and we encourage you to continue to share your thoughts and wants for the game into the future!
Axis Operations 1945 is currently in its BETA testing phase, and we again want to give a special thank you to all of our BETA testers for their hard effort to help us make each installment of Panzer Corps 2 content the best it can be!
Conclusion
We hope you enjoyed this advance look into some of the content that the historical 1945 campaign has on offer. Be on the lookout for our next Dev Diary, where we take a look at some of the new units being added to the game and explore a preview of Axis Operations 1945 alternate history campaign.
Panzer Corps 2: Axis Operations - 1945 is coming on June 22nd wishlist now:
We are still making our way through the more than one thousand (!) comments to last week’s Steam Post, containing our very cryptic image. It has been an absolute joy to share your excitement for Season 04, and many of you already found the message hidden within the artwork. To reward your effort and excitement, here is the full Key Art reveal for Season 04!
Why are the dwarves flying? What is that monstrosity they are fighting? What’s in the box? Patience, Miners. All things will be revealed in good time. And soon - you may count on it.
There is one thing we can reveal, though: The title of Season 04 is CRITICAL CORRUPTION.
Season 04: Critical Corruption will push the struggle against the Rockpox Lithophage beyond what you have experienced in Season 03. It’s time to put a stop to this plague, Miners - Deep Rock Galactic does not tolerate a toxic work environment!
And also, while not technically a reveal (wink-wink), Season 04 also has a release date: June 15th on Steam, and June 22nd on Consoles. So suit up, call down the cleansing pod, and get ready to decontaminate more than you’ve ever decontaminated. And stay tuned for more Season 04 reveals, the next of which you can watch on Friday on our Youtube channel, where we will premiere the Season 04 Cosmetic DLC Pack. You don’t want to miss it!
