We are proud to announce the next update for Bring It On!:

v0.10: Catacombs!



Included in this update is the new, titular level: Catacombs!
Which will include 2 new boss encounters, and 2 new characters to unlock!



We're also adding a new feature for spending your excess Soulstones after Mastering a Character: Mastery Level!

Once you have Mastered a character, you can increase their Mastery Level via an increasing number of Soulstones. Each Mastery Level boosts the Character's stats by 5% so if you are having trouble with a difficult level, you can pump a bunch of Soulstones into a Character's Mastery Level to power through the level!

We have also made some adjustments to the enemies stats, and the Characters' Talents to make the game balance feel a little more fun.

We are hoping to get this update out to you all real soon, so stay tuned!

We would like to highlight some major changes to the equipment and armor in the game. We have increased the defenses for all helmets and vests, making them much more effective in protecting the player against incoming attacks.

Equipping armor will now give the player a major defense boost, greatly reducing the damage taken from enemy attacks. However, each time the player is hit, the durability of the armor will decrease, eventually rendering it ineffective

If you've been following us on this journey, you'll know we made some promises to greatly improve the game. We're very excited to announce that this patch completes all of the promises we made (plus more)

There's lots more to come, but for now, we'd like to celebrate this major patch with a speedrun contest!
1. Speedrun Competition

That's right, we're having a speedrun competition!
$300 USD for first place!

1.1 Competition Rules
  1. Must be Recorded
  2. Any% Story Mode
  3. No Saving/Loading (i.e. must be a single, continuous run)
  4. No using the Cheat Menu

  6. Competition Ends: June 10, 2023, 12pm PST.
1.2 Speedrun timer
How could we hold a speedrun competition without a custom speedrun timer??

That's right, it automatically tracks your time.
But more importantly, if you hit pause, it pauses the timer so you can go for a pee break.
We spoke to several speedrunners and decided that "managing your bladder" shouldn't be a part of the run.
Very few games implement their own timer, so we wanted to utilize the advantages of having it build in.
1.3 The build mode calculator

If you join the discord, i've also created a build tree calculator that helps players figure out the cost of ingredients!
Please join our discord to talk strats and get any help or clarification. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy runs you come up with.

2. Better Bees

  • Bee boxes now let the player select which mushroom they want to re-seed.
  • Bee Boxes initially spawn bees faster
  • Fixed a major bug (get it, HA) where the bees sometimes wouldn't harvest mushrooms

3. Combat changes

  • Tornatoads do 50% less damage to supply pods
  • Tornatoads only attack the wall directly infront of them (instead of all walls)
  • Adjusted the stun turrets to do slightly more damage to tornatoads and bees

4. Trash can

We had lots of requests to let players get rid of extra items that are simply cluttering the space.
  • Destroys any items that can be easily mass-produced (e.g. Blood-Rock, Glowbulbs)
  • Does NOT let you destroy buildings, factories
  • Craftable by the player.

note: We had to be a little aggressive with items you couldn't destroy to prevent players from soft-locking themselves out of the game.

5. Other Quality of life changes
  • Lightbulbs show distance
  • Removed dodge from tutorial
  • Deer now run to the deer traps (instead of slowly walking)
  • Basic widescreen support
  • Added seeds to creative mode
  • Added a menu popup warning you that you'll be quitting
  • Adjusted the electric flower respawners to be more distinct and understandable to the player

6. Other Bugs
  • Fixed a bug where some players would get respawned outside of the "corrosive zone"
  • Fixed a bug where the iris station sometimes became unclickable
  • Fixed a bug where players were stuck trying to reach the research module
  • Fixed a bug where Items are sometimes stuck in the fuel depot




What's next?
The bug fixing journey continues! We still have a list of smaller bugs to fix that we've had to set aside while we focus on these major QOL updates. We're excited to refocus our efforts on some of the smaller bugs.

But for now, let's focus on the 1.0.6 update.

Patch Notes


Balance Changes and Fixes
  • The walking range of the Stalking Trickster has been decreased from 5 to 4.
Quality of Life
  • Improved mob pathing to reduce instances of mobs walking back and forth between tiles.
  • Enhanced readability of The Manalith, Bolt Smite, and Thunder Smite for easier understanding.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where Transcend was not working properly.
  • Resolved the problem of Final Boss Solar Appear that was causing the game to soft-lock.
  • Rollback no longer duplicates itself.
  • Wasp and Beetle are now prevented from self-destructing under certain conditions when close to props. In addition, all insects will explode if they are unable to reach or get closer to their targets.
  • Multiple improvements made to mob action cards and tags.
  • The issue of the cursor being visible in-game when using a Controller has been fixed.
  • The problem of canceling a card that was never fully executed, without indicating that you are still in the state of "selecting a card to cast" has been resolved.
  • A small almost unnoticeable collider missing in a room in the Glacial Library has been fixed.
  • The Disease effect with timecraft cards is now functioning properly.
  • Traps and Hazards are now properly displayed on the appropriate layers.
Known Issues
  • Monsters and Gizmos are not taking their action turns as they should.
  • Poison is causing some problems with timecraft cards.

As you may have noticed the inventory visualization boxes (the red, green, and yellow ones) cause a bit of conflict with the grid outlines for buildings as they want to live in the same space. I have decided to move the ability to see where buildings can connect to the grid.

in 0.6 when you move a placement object near a building you will see its grid just as you do now however there will be symbols on the grid that give you information about that building such as where its inputs and outputs for items are or where pipes can be attached. These symbols are designed to be immersion breaking and very obvious.

Items are symbolized by a green square

Solid square for item insertion, Square with hole for Item Extraction, and Double Square for both.

Fluid Connections use a blue circle

Full circle for fluid in and hollow for fluid out

Rotation will use a purple diamond

I hope by now you can guess filled for in and hollow for out

Other connection types that are added to the game will get their own color and shapes for their connection types. Here is what it looks like in game.

I also have the ability to manipulate the grid based on the status of building. For example conveyors will only show the grid on unconnected ends as shown.


As this is a feature that purposefully breaks immersion I do not want to force it on players so there will be a key binding to toggle it on and off. When it is toggled you will be given a notification in the new notification area that will give a short text notification about events that have occurred. Most things that appear in the notification area will not be super important and will not be things you need to immediately attend to, it's just stuff you might need to know.

Development progress

We didn’t share many development updates recently, as we’re working full steam to make this demo happen. Fortunately, all of this work will benefit the whole game, as working on the demo allowed us to iterate over many elements and immediately test the results.

Let me give you an example: for an embarrassingly long time we used simple 3D models created by definitely-not-an-artist-person for indicating building statuses.



But no more! Just recently we’ve switched to displaying nice and neat widgets, which you actually can see and understand instead of wondering “What the heck is this red blob rotating above my building”.



This is one of many things that has changed in the game during recent months, but there is no point in describing all of it here: just play the demo and see with your own eyes the current state of the game :)

Of course, the work for us doesn’t end here, we’ve got a ton of things to implement, improve and tweak before the Early Access release later this year, so with your permission, we’re gonna do exactly that :)
