Unity of Command II continues its march toward covering the entire WWII in Europe.

It is now your turn to take command of Soviet forces encircling Stalingrad, and ensure that they crush any German hope of a comeback, or indeed survival.

You will be in charge of newly created Tank Corps as they launch deep battle strikes into the enemy’s rear. But be warned: although weakened, the enemy is still dangerous. They will remind you that commanding the Red Army means accepting losses in order to get things done.

Greetings Pilots!

In our last update, we mentioned EVERSPACE 2 has been an amazing success for our studio and today we’re able to share a little more!

Over the last few weeks we’ve seen a huge influx of new players and long-time Early Access pilots with nearly 10,000 of you playing at the same time at one point! To-date, more than 300,000 EVERSPACE 2 pilots have bought and begun their adventure in our five year project, with an additional 100,000+ players coming in on PC Game Pass. Outside of pure sales and in-game player numbers, there is incredibly strong interest in the game. We’re seeing demo downloads and wishlists like mad which tells us many space fans have their eyes on EVERSPACE 2 for the future.

It’s been very exciting to see everyone loving EVERSPACE 2 on social media and streaming platforms! Many of our favorite streamers like CohhCarnage, Skill Up, and ObsidianAnt have been praising EVERSPACE 2, and we’ve seen an incredible number of content creators pick up and play on YouTube, Twitch, and elsewhere for the first time.

With outstanding Metacritic and Opencritic aggregate scores, it’s apparent the critics have many positive things to say! We’ve had applause from the media with sites like PC Gamer and Gaming Trend saying things like "Everspace 2 is not Freelancer. It's better" and "...the best space game I’ve played in a very long time." A brilliant write up at VICE along with the follow up Waypoint podcast really shows how excited reviewers can be about the game when it really clicks! All these reviews warm our hearts even when they’re peppered with a little criticism.



We can clearly call EVERSPACE 2 a commercial and critical success, and that’s great news for space game fans! As we’ve said in the past, we’ve begun work on our first major DLC and the team is cooking up something very exciting. It is way too soon to share the details of what they’re working on, but for now just know that there is more adventure ahead—the coming expansion will add more star systems, exciting story missions, and, of course, new loot!

Patch Details
🔶 The Quick Play Page needed some love and so that's what we gave it. We used what we learned from the academy and upgraded the quick play levels. Fourteen brand new levels for you to enjoy. Have fun!

🔶 For something completely new, we added a Rookie Range level for new players out there to understand the very basics of aim training and what it's for.

🔶 We added a new type of level called Survival Modes. Here you will be able to play for as long as you can hold on. The better you get, the further you'll make it. Each of these levels will get harder over time so you'll really feel yourself improving as you go on longer and longer runs. Let's go!

🔶 We replaced the old zombie survival level and in it's place we present Android Apocalypse. Good luck staying alive and show these droids what you're made of.

🔶 You will find that we retrofitted new environments in the old Become a Pro levels. Find these changes on the Become a Pro page for the flicking, clicking and tracking levels. Enjoy!

🔶 We overhauled on how statistics work for the Quick Play and Become a Pro levels. This way your leaderboard rank will much more accurately represent your actual skills compared to everyone else. Time to start competing!

Today marks the first occasion since the release of By Blood Alone where we take a deeper look into what is coming next. As you may recall from the BBA development cycle, we had an early set of 'Development Corner' diaries, which serve as an opportunity for us to reveal a narrow look at a specific mechanic or design without revealing too much about the wider context of future releases. Today's offering, as well as the next couple of diaries, will be in much the same spirit - you'll just have to wait a little bit longer to get the full picture. Scandalous and polarising, I know.

Hello there, it's me, C0rax. Now you can get all excited because it's time for some Dev Corners in which we will show you some WIP looks into the new features we have been working on. So without further ado this week we will be looking at…

Military Industrial Organisations (MIO’s)

This is all very much WIP, you are going to see WIP mock ups, and some details are still being finalised!

Feature Intent & goals

Intent:
  • Create a sense of a living organisation the player can interact with rather than a static bonus as with current design companies.
Why is this important you ask? Well previously we had to provide static modifiers and sometimes change them via scripted decisions or focus rewards. By creating a more organic system to upgrade your design companies you the player can now decide what these upgrades are and tailor them to fit your playstyle. Additionally we can now reward the player for using a design company as opposed to simply having you save up a resource and click a button, rewarding you for putting effort into them.

Goals:
  • Allow the player to define their designer direction.
  • Integrate design companies into production
  • Provide a framework for national specialisms that can be used on the world stage

So first here is a rough structure of an MIO;

This structure allows us to represent MIO’s in a way that expresses the specialisms of the various organisations that designed and produced war materials during the period. You can now represent a company like Bofors AB who designed and produced anti tank, anti air and naval guns seamlessly and expand each of those specialisms as you see fit. Investing in the right MIO is critical to upgrading those specialist departments in order to gain the bonuses you need for specific stats.

Task Capacity:
An MIO of course can’t work on a number of infinite simultaneous projects. For this we have task capacity that limits how many things your MIO’s can work on balancing. This is an important thing to balance, since producing too much equipment with an MIO will lock you out from using it for research or designing equipment. For ship production this is actually important for producing ships in parallel so you might want to invest in the manufacturing department for task capacity so you can really ramp up your naval production.


Levelling & upgrades

Research cost and Production cost is used to calculate MIO funds that it gains when it is used.
An amount of MIO Funds is required to increase your size and pick a new trait.




Skill trees
  • split roughly along the same lines as current design companies.
  • possibility for country unique trees
  • possibility for content prerequisites (national focus or decision locking etc…)



Departments and Tasks
  • Industrial manufacturers (IM's)
  • Assigned to production lines (Task)
Skill trees provide production specific bonuses
  • Design teams (DT's)
  • Applied to research (Task)
  • Applied to equipment both via equipment designers and normal variants
  • Skill trees provide Stat bonuses
  • Can be applied retroactively to equipment at cost
  • A move away from pay mana get reward


So that's a lot of high-level structural talk so you understand the core concepts of the MIO Feature and so I'll now show some of the WIP flows of actually using these structures and systems.

Q: When can we get and play the game?

A: As we mentioned in the past Update, the release date is TBA. We are sorry for the wait. We will announce it as soon as the scope is clear!


Land Management...?

*cough* *cough* It's me again, Horie! Today it is supposed to be a “surprise” by Maribald-san, but his update is a bit late - the amount of work and the draft of the Update regarding land management hasn't given me butterflies in my stomach just yet. But don’t be hard on him. Our team members call me a picky art director because it's very hard to please me ^^”.

We didn’t want to leave you without an update, so let me show off a piece of our work while I ask you all to please wait for his update next time (where I will make sure to help him give me those butterflies :3)

Here is the developing materials for the new Land Management. Because I don’t want to ruin Maribald-san's surprise, I will only share all materials in WIP quality, which won't include in-game textures and the official renewed UI.

Date Events

It's Miore again. We know it is disappointing not to see the Land Management content yet. To make up for that, let’s turn our eyes to another feature of the game; dates with the characters!

As you know, players can pick a favorite character and experience their Character Events. By developing strong enough relationships with the characters, you'll get the chance to go on a date!


Such as walking around the town with Mayumi in her casual attire…


Enjoying some sweets with sweet Lucrezia…


Or chilling out with Astar and some morning coffee… There are examples of various events for each main character.


Also, the reward to complete the relationships is not only seeing these events and their CGs. Strengthening your relationship will give you a reliable partner with new powers, helping you in battle! In addition, you can get one more thing that is not announced yet… We will introduce it to you when the time comes.

As you can see, many many new aspects of development are popping out and we have even more that are not yet announced, so please stay tuned. Like always, we look forward to hearing your comments!

In Celeste's route, Terra chooses the Trade Ban option and travels to Canis with her and the advisor. Along the way as Terra spends more and more time in close quarters with Celeste, they begin to develop feelings...which is a big problem. A monarch cannot marry a maid!



In Leo's route, Terra goes to war with Andromeda. They need to select this season's knights before they march. One day while heading to the training grounds, Terra sees Leo practicing...and he's actually really good! Nothing like how he was sparring with Sahi. Can Terra help Leo get his confidence up so he can perform just as good during the Knight Trials?
