• New Mode: "No Food" 🍔❌ •

That's right: in this brand new game mode, your units don't need to eat. But the cost of newbies now depends on how big your squad is: the bigger it gets, the more expensive they'll be. You'll still see Sacrificial Pits, but they'll just be for fun now. The fun will end for you if accidentally click on one, so tell your puny humans to watch their step.



And yes, this mode works with multiplayer King of the Hill. But it's primarily for anyone who gets annoyed with the food mechanic. Give the game a try without it, and we'll see how it goes. We'd love for you to visit our Discord server and share your thoughts on the new mode with us. Or you can just come post memes in the off-topic channel.


• Balance changes •
  • Increased cooldown for "Impulse" of Eggheads' towers (Tier 5 Eggheads class ability): 7 ⇒ 9s;
  • Increased chance of an ability "Normal Punch" of level 5 Fighter: 5% ⇒ 10%!
  • Damage and Health bonus are slightly increased for all the Tricksters' items.
Changes to random mutations:
  • "No Touching" now drops from random mutations starting on floor 5. In the event ""Beast"" instead of it you can get the "Retaliation" mutation;
  • "Thick Skin": Armor 30 ⇒ 50;
  • "Bash": Chance 10% ⇒ 15%;
  • "Human Projectile": Cooldown 12 ⇒ 16 s; Mana 16 ⇒ 40;

Aethermancer - Conan The Librarian
To start off: Why we chose to work on ‘Aethermancer’ as our next project, instead of ‘Monster Sanctuary 2’. Working on a direct sequel to Monster Sanctuary would have been the more safe route and was definitely something we considered. But ultimately, working on Monster Sanctuary for over 5 years, we'd like to work on something new. We wanted to keep the monster taming aspect though and mix it with something different this time: A Roguelike/Roguelite game.

In what way Aethermancer and Monster Sanctuary will be similar
  • You’re still fighting 3 vs 3 Monster battles, The battles being more challenging and engaging than usual monster taming games.



  • Your monsters will have access to a lot of different attacks and passive skills, similarly like in Monster Sanctuary, encouraging players to come up with synergetic builds for monsters and team compositions. Players will recognize a lot of skills which will be in some way similar to the ones in Monster Sanctuary. You’ll also have other options to enhance and customise your monsters, like equipment.



  • Buffs and Debuffs will play a big role again in monster & combat strategies.

  • Every Monster is supposed to be viable and interesting on its own. There should be no monsters which are clearly inferior to others in all use cases.
How Aethermancer will be different
  • First of all, in addition to being a monster taming game, it will be a Rogulike, a Roguelite to be more precise. It is designed to have shorter playthrough time, being more difficult, with the idea players to try to beat the game multiple times. You will lose your monsters and most of their progress, but you will keep their souls and they will be slightly stronger when in your team next time. Also you will have a meta progression for the Aethermancer (the player character) and with the natural experience of players getting better at the game, it will make consecutive runs easier. While differently skilled players will require different amounts of attempts, the goal is to have a game that eventually most players will be able to beat on normal difficulty.

  • Skills this time won’t be acquired through skill trees, but we’ll offer the player a choice out of 3 skills on every level up. Those skills will be picked randomly from the monster’s skill pool. This is very common in Roguelike games and the idea is to have every run feel and play differently, even when using the same monsters. Also it will make every individual monster of the same kind feel a bit unique.

  • Using Skills will require 4 different Elements of Aether, instead of the classical Mana Points. Your monsters will have a shared pool of Aether which replenishes to a certain degree every turn.



  • Additionally, your monsters will have skills and equipment which helps you to generate and manage Aether



  • The environments will be randomly generated this time, to also make different runs not feel too repetitive. Also the exploration will be top-down now, no longer side-view.



  • There will be a hub location that will evolve over time, using meta currency you get from your run attempts. You’ll help the residents build new houses and it will grow over time, becoming more and more prosperous.

Conclusion

Of course there will be a lot more small differences in detail and features which we won’t mention yet. Also, it is clear to us that dipping into the roguelite genre, while on the one hand we will create something new and more unique, but on the other hand will make this game not everyone’s cup of tea (similarly some didn’t like the Metroidvania aspect of Monster Sanctuary). But we think we can make this idea into a really cool game and we will put our 100% into Aethermancer as we did with Monster Sanctuary!

Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur - ificouldwrite
Good morrow, courageous knights!

Thou hast fought so bravely and defeated great evil in our demo, it is now time to rest for a moment before you raise your swords once more. Come hither and listen closely, friends, as I tell you the story of Camelot and its terrible fate, of how the Knights of the Round Table rose to defend their kingdom and tragically perished.


The Fate of the Kingdom

Long before tragedy struck, at the beginning of all things, the great Architect took it upon himself to create the world we now call our home. He soon moved this monumental creation – his most magnificent yet – to its own dimension, far away from the Astral Dimension which housed our world as it was built. Shortly after, the Architect sealed the realm with the Holy Grail, the one artefact which would soon bring about the downfall of our legendary kingdom.

Only a few remember the tale of Camelot’s creation today, though many celebrate its rise to fame and glory. Much of this triumph we owe to Merlin, the most powerful wizard in the realm, who, in harnessing a foreign yet potent power, aided our beloved King Arthur’s ascension to the throne. Did you know, dear friends, that Merlin had a hand in the congregation of the Knights of the Round Table? ‘Twas he who entrusted them with the mission to seek the Holy Grail … if only he had known then the cost of their success.



Our fearless knights did as they were told, discovered the Holy Grail, opened a portal to the Astral Dimension and … well, the rest is history.

Perchance you remember the moment disaster struck as the Void Giant emerged. The courageous Knights of the Round rose to protect and defend the kingdom, to protect its people … but to no avail. Our dear king fought bravely but as the nefarious giant tore down our glorious kingdom, he too perished – and earthly Camelot was no more.



With his last remaining powers, Merlin saved our lives, sending us to the Astral Dimension along with what remained of our beauteous home. Some blabbermouths insist his actions were merely accidental … but do not listen to such slander.

Since our arrival in this realm, I heard tales, of not one but three giants roaming this realm. Though, you mustn’t worry about such rumours, dear knights, after all, wise Merlin has found a way to resurrect our king who will save us all.

‘Tis what remains of our Camelot for now. It may not be much but do not let your eyes fool you – we shall rebuild what has been destroyed, mayhap you can help us. Return as often as you like, to rest, regain strength or better your weapons.

This update continues our string of improvements to the game's graphics by introducing an all new HUD!



New HUD, graphics and audio
  • Redesigned health bars, round timer, text, input display, status popups and round transition graphics.
  • Greenville Forest (Mahogany Marv's stage) has been revamped!
  • When characters take damage, the health bar's depletion is now animated.
  • Character mini-portraits added to top of HUD.
  • All-new announcer lines for round start/KO
  • New round win markers.
  • Input fades out when locked in, turns red when you're being punished.

General Updates
  • Jerma Marv's throw now pushes back, same as normal Marv's throw.
  • On Steam Deck, the default runtime is now Linux. This should help compatibility with our online lobby system.
  • In Steam Deck and Big Picture Mode, fixed a bug where closing the onscreen keyboard without sending a Salty Chat message would cause the menu to get stuck.
  • During the Tutorial, some text has been adjusted for Steam Deck players for improved compatibility.
  • Steam Deck players will now see a unique version of the Controls guide popup.
  • Fixed Noel's name display in multiplayer lobbies
  • The current version # now displays on the Main menu.
  • A new Demo version has been released, bringing it up to date with recent gameplay additions.

Due to a computing error by the Vehicle Manufacturers Guild (Lawsuit Pending), 1,048,576 extra vehicles have been ordered for ALL locations. Per company policy, the vehicles will be delivered no matter who’s there to sign for it. No need to worry about the cost, HQ will be billed directly. So; defend the drop zones, claim your shipment, and take over the streets! Your killbots may not be 100% vehicle certified, but the vehicles are available on the basis that they are put to use immediately upon delivery, so use it or lose it.

High above the City is the Tower Tops, where the Neobots reign supreme. At least, they will until a newer, taller development project is finished...

Meanwhile, on the other side of the solar system, ground has been broken at the new Mars building site....

New content:
Introducing Vehicles!
-Use E to climb into a seat
-Use WASD to control the steering and acceleration/breaks
-While in the gunner seat, you can issue drive commands: W to move forward, S to stop, and Q to toggle driver AI. Remember: press F1 to toggle the control tips!
-The vehicles are delivered by drop ship. When a vehicle is destroyed, a new one will be delivered. They also come equipped with a self-flip feature, to help right them when they’re stuck. (Take that, towing companies!)

Two new levels: The Mars Space Elevator built by Sofa, which features new music by Muchkin, and Tower Tops!

A new ability for the Medic/Engineer bot! They can now place barricade plans; once placed, a barricade may be constructed using the Welder Gun.

A new gun for Biomass Burger units! It has a slower reload, but it's more accurate and fires in three-round bursts.

Sticky grenades for the Dross Grenadier!

Fixes and changes:
-Improved the sights for the basic units from first-person POV.
-UI can now be toggled off entirely with F2.
-When hot swapping units, you can use the 1 and 2 keys to switch between unit types, and the 3 and 4 keys to switch between units within that type.
-Some additional minor UI and bug fixes, as well as lots of other minor changes!

What's new?

  • We added a new UI for selecting & previewing trigger channels - This allows you to visualize which objects are affected by a trigger or which triggers affect the selected object.
  • We added a button that let's you instantly snap Fink towards the cursor when editing a dungeon.
What's changed?
  • Added automatic camera movement, when dragging an object towards the screens edge when using a gamepad.
  • We changed the bosses & boss rooms in the pre-existing dungeons, so they reflect boss fights that players can recreate themselves.
Bug-Fixes
  • Fixed some minor Font issues where some special characters where not displayed correctly in some languages.

Pure excitement and nervousness are spreading through us right now, our 1.0 release is on May 3rd that's only 3 weeks away 😶‍🌫️😱
