Dear CEOs,

My name is Kim Hyun Soo, the new Head PD of CounterSide.

Today, I am here to discuss the upcoming updates for the first half of 2023.

The new Co-Op Battle Boss, Tyrant Gigas is planned to be featured at the start of May 2023. Tyrant Gigas is a superior type of Tyrant Sword and Tyrant Armor, which we hope will become a new challenge to all those who enjoy Co-Op Battles.

The [Co-Op Battle Renewal] which was on the previous version of the roadmap is on hold. We concluded that the Co-Op Battle function itself is not serving its purpose to its full potential just yet.
To compensate, to allow more CEOs to participate in the Co-Op Battle, we are currently renewing the consortium UI as well as adding in practice mode without any penalties. These features will be added at the end of April 2023 to allow CEOs to use this feature to practice the new boss, Tyrant Gigas.

On June 2023, a long-awaited collaboration with Guilty Gear - STRIVE - will begin! More detailed information on the collaboration will be released soon, but we can tell you this much that to maximize the attractiveness of Guilty Gear - STRIVE-, we are planning to alter the method of acquiring the collab units.

Moreover, even though the collaboration is new to the Global Server, but is a rerun for the Korean server. Meaning, these collaboration units existed for quite a long time, hence some of the collaboration units are under consideration for a balance patch. What's more, there will be an addition to the collaboration unit, hence please look forward to the event!

[Jukebox System: Acquisition Condition Added]

Towards the end of May, we are planning an update on the Jukebox System where conditions to acquire each BGM will be displayed on the screen. The main goal of the Jukebox System was to give CEOs a hidden achievement of sorts and provide excitement upon clearing hidden achievements, but at this point, we have concluded that the original intent was not working.

Now I will explain a bit about the buff/debuff and status effects. Before explaining them, I’d like to modify a terminology, Debuff RES. Debuff RES is basically the upper concept of just Debuff and we’re going to change it to Status Effect RES. This change will be implemented at in-game and we will notice it soon.

The functions are extremely complicated and intertwined with each other. Under these circumstances, three statuses, stun does not get influenced by Nullify Buff/Debuff effects. However, CEOs will have no way of knowing this information in-game.

Therefore, we are currently reviewing to improve the visibility or statuses that do not have any effect by Nullify Buff/Debuff, to quickly notify the CEOs what effect each unit is under.

We are also preparing a new gauntlet mode without having to worry about league downgrades. It will have a mode without applying gear stats, a modes where everyone can have a chance to use newly released units in a limited fashion, and more. We are coming up with more event modes to relieve stress from the PVP.

Starting from the first Courage season, a limited PVP skin was added as a reward. However, limited to the Master league the CEOs in the Masters did not get demoted at the start of the season reset, hence, they remained on that league.

Therefore, starting from the Sincere season starting from June, CEOs in Masters will also get demoted along with the season reset. Also, we plan to adjust the required Victory Points to advance from one league to another.

We are gathering data from CEOs from the Platinum league and above of the Ranked Battle on the number of squad recruits, win rates, number of bans, and so on to pick on units to be balanced and adjusted around mid-April 2023.

Collection renewal is planned to be implemented at the start of August 2023. On this renewal, CEOs will be able to see all the bits and pieces of information that were scattered in the game in one place. Additionally, more detailed information and visual aids such as skill cut-ins of each character will be organized and added to the collection to help understand each character.

• The Iron Knight
• Three to Three
• Neverland Nevermore

The March Update is now available!
This month, significant change in game rendering, addition of new Steam and non-Steam achievements, horse improvement and many bug fixes!




Summary of the update:

This update was supposed to add a new region to explore. Unfortunately, this region is not yet complete and therefore will not be available today. The work on improving the game's graphics took much longer than expected and all previously made regions had to be painstakingly corrected in order to adapt to this new rendering.

The level of Neptune (update 0.4.08) has been greatly improved with the addition of many details and some new places to explore in order to unlock the 4 new achievements available.

The horse has also been reviewed and corrected, particularly on these animations and its behavior.

The particles around the character have also been modified (pollen, dust, insects) in order to adapt more correctly to the environments.



Update note:

Interface:
- Added smooth transition between level change. A white fade appears and the audio drops slowly.
- Modification in the basic options at the start of the game, the basic limit of FPS goes from 60 to 120 FPS.
- Updated loading images.


Graphics:
- Improved how particles work and render around the player.
- Improved taking into account of waves emitted by the player close to water. They are now only emitted when the character is in the water and not when he is at the edge of it.
- Added emission of dust particles when opening the doors.
- Improved the transition of display of vegetation on the ground, it is now smoother and shrubs, grasses or hedges no longer appear suddenly.
- Changed sun angle and time of day in Neptune level to make the level more beautiful.
- Significant improvement in the rendering of vegetation at long distances, especially with hedges, so that they blend more naturally into the decor.
- Significant improvements to the rendering, brightness and colors of the game in order to improve the overall rendering of the scenes.
- Improved rendering of rock textures and nearby cliffs.
- Improved rendering of terrain textures, with more colors and more realistic.
- Improved rendering of the horse's mane with the animation due to the wind and the movement of the horse.
- Updated Unity from 2020.3.44f1 to Unity 2020.3.45f1.


Achievements :
- Added 4 new Steam and non-Steam achievements related to the Neptune region.


Level :
- Added 3 new areas to explore in the Neptune level related to new achievements.
- Added a new Roman ruin in the Neptune level.
- Added music in Neptune's level at some point.
- Addition of a ledge in the level of Neptune at the East aqueduct in order to avoid falling into the void after a too hazardous jump.
- Changed the size of the notches for the paddle wheels in the Neptune level.
- Added many details at the level of Neptunes, rocks, trees,...


Player :
- The delay that allows the player to automatically grab a ledge after jumping against a wall has been increased, which avoids a sudden movement and starts the new jump animation.


Horse :
- Various horse idle animations now work correctly.
- Transitions between idle and walking animations are much smoother.
- Idle horse animations are no longer affected by the player mounting or dismounting the horse.
- Inactive horse animations are better mixed together and the horse no longer tends to stay frozen for too long.
- The horse now stops at a very low obstacle, it will no longer advance while remaining blocked.
- The player now takes the same amount of time to get on or off the horse.
- When the player respawns after a death, the horse is now automatically reloaded to its last respawn point.


Audio:
- Taking does not count footsteps when the player is in water or not is now more efficient. This avoids, for example, having footsteps in the water when the player is close to the water, but not yet in it.


Important bug fix:
- Fixed a bug that blocked player movement after drowning.
- Fixed a bug that allowed the player to walk underwater after jumping.
- Removed a misplaced ledge in Neptune's hell level that could get the player stuck in a tree.
- Fixed a bug where the horse could stay in running animation after being stopped due to a collision.
- In rare cases, the player could get off his horse at the wrong angle and therefore get stuck, this bug has been fixed.
- Fixed the camera bug when riding the horse animation, it could spin very quickly on it. (Edit: partial correction because at the time of my last test of this update, this bug reappeared, but less frequent.)

IDEA - ares
Hello everyone!

It’s been three beautiful weeks since we released IDEA the game on Steam and we can’t be grateful enough for all the love we’ve received. Amazing streamers played our game and created beautiful Ideas with their followers, many media outlets reviewed the game and lots of international players started their journey with us.



How has your experience with IDEA been? We have to admit that in the beginning, we went through a lot of trouble setting up the text introduction with characters different from the Latin characters. So we worked at maximum speed to fix it! You’ve probably seen all the patches that we uploaded since March 9th.

By now, we have a total of 2400 ideas registered on the game! Some of them caught up our eyes:

Changing topics, a few days ago, we released the game on Nintendo Switch USA & EU. If you know anyone that would enjoy IDEA on a different platform, tell them!
To be honest, IDEA is not the first game that the studio released and worked on, but it is still as exciting as the first time.

Minor changes and improvements:

  • Reduced Ufo increase in numbers, scan range and respawn rate near alien stations for Easy difficulty.
  • Improved hinting system and feedback to indicate number of elements collected, used for repairs, assembly etc.
  • Added resource drops to plants, so killing them is worth the effort.
  • Added colour variety to elements to better indicate the different kinds of elements dropped.
  • Enemies will no longer disappear immediately when the player traverses on the edges of the map (was a problem when the player returned to the other side of the map).
  • Elements used for repairs are now deducted from storage when repairs are started, which allows the immediate use of Assembly (no longer need to wait for repairs to finish).
  • Assets and modules listed in the Assembly, will now show in green when they can be constructed and in grey when more elements are required for assembly (so the player can see at a glance what can be assembled).
  • The research button will now be highlighted when there is new research available.
  • Added more music.

- Added Exceed effects to skill icons.

- Renamed Bonus Act -> Minigame.

- Added Minigame UI.

- Fixed annoying tutorials.

- Fixed the ranking system so that you can have a reasonable time rank on a boss act.

- Nerfed the attack of the Mobile C Machinegun.

- Reduced the range of the Gunslinger's basic attack and added a slightly longer attack delay.

Summer Outfits


Coral Island features seasonal outfits for most of our townies. We're excited to release the second set of seasonal clothing in this upcoming update: Summer outfits! Here's a preview:

Pet Festival


Another WIP festival will be accessible for the upcoming Summer Update: The Pet Day Festival. This festival occurs every Summer 12 and can be triggered in town. Don't miss it!

Fruit Plants & Ocean Critters

More fruit plants and ocean critters have been added to the game. You can purchase the new fruit plant at Sam's General Store and find the new critters while diving in the ocean.

Insect & critter traps

As part of the catching mastery, you'll now unlock traps used to catch insects and critters. You can place these on the ground and in the ocean. There are 4 traps, 2 for insects and 2 for critters. Here's a look at traps in action:

Sprinkler III

You'll be able to reach Mastery level 9 in the upcoming Summer Update. This means access to Sprinkler III. Compared to Sprinkler II, which has a coverage of 5x5 (24 tiles), Sprinkler III covers a 9x9 area (80 tiles).

Only a handful of bug fixes this week as our main effort is still on improving the combat on the beta branch.

Bug fixes:
- The gameplay warning for using signets on items pops up and goes away correctly.
- Tower locations at the edge of a lake generate correct bridges.
- Fixes issue with the mountain top temple level not generating correctly.
- Fixes broken level connection in some Marang keep location.
- Fixes issue with walls missing near chasms
