This week a lot of work has been done to make sure the game is ready for you and other players around the world. We have done a lot of combat-level testing to make the game as playable as possible before the public early access release.

I want to invite you to apply as a beta team member and play the game for yourself now before the public release so you can provide your opinion and feedback about the game. The Hard Coded Dilemma

First of all, we'd like to address the comments after our last update featuring key bindings changes. We've decided to revert the changes addressing key bindings. We appreciate your honesty and quick feedback, however harsh it may be.

Introducing Claymore was a bit more problematic than we would have expected, as with its inception one category had 3 weapons, while the players were able to assign only 2 weapons to a specific key as per Project Warlock’s code. To find a workaround we've decided to hard code specific key bindings and it seems that was not something anyone welcomed. At the same time we were working on the new difficulty level and the lives system. Over the course of the last few weeks we've tried to find solutions to the binding issue, but it turned out the best one was to revert to the pre-patch settings. So we did and moved Claymore to the 6th slot by default. At the same time we're removing the hard code to allow anyone to bind up to 2 weapons to a single key as before.

Fresh look at the lives system

And now - to give you more insight into an update to the lives system, as well as one brand new difficulty option!

Difficulty levels and losing lives, specifically, has been a hot topic since the game launched in 2018. The original concept (have limited lives and restart the full game if you lost them) was optional, but still the choice didn’t really sit well with a lot of the players. Some of the issues with that stemmed from difficulty spikes in certain areas, so we tried amending that by making a lot of adjustments to the game’s balance. The aim was to provide fair gameplay for the players and reduce the frustration caused by losing all their lives on a single boss fight, or a stage.

Five years on Project Warlock still finds new players and we decided it’s time to shift approach to the lives system with this patch, and we’re introducing redefined difficulty levels and reworked lives system. For those of you seeking the most hellish experience that results in losing all your progress, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here are the patch notes:
Key bindings changes
  • 1-0 keys are no longer hardcoded
  • You can assign up to 2 weapons to a single key
  • The sword has been moved from Slot 1 to Slot 6 (by default)
Reworked lives system
  • Reworked the functioning of lives. Instead of losing all progress, in any mode (sans the Single LIfe Mode) that offers limited lives you'll be sent back to your most recent Workshop visit with 3 lives
Redefined difficulty levels
  • Casual - Unlimited lives
  • Standard - Limited lives, upon losing all lives go back to your most recent Workshop visit with 3 lives
  • (NEW) Hard - Unlimited lives, double monster damage, fast monsters
  • Hardcore - Limited lives, double monster damage, fast monsters, upon losing all lives go back to your most recent Workshop visit with 3 lives
  • Single Life Mode - Single life, double monster damage, fast monsters, progress reset upon death


We hope these changes will allow more players to experience the deadlier difficulties of Project Warlock without worrying about losing all their progress, while still providing the most difficult experience in the Single Life Mode.

What is Axon TD?
Axon TD is a mazing-centric tower defense where you manipulate the map layout to your advantage. Build towers, make the longest maze, and survive against an onslaught of enemies!

In the Campaign, you'll play as a defense contractor on a routine mission. But when you arrive, your ship is shot down, and you're attacked by a robotic force called the Axons. Your only way off the planet now is to fight. Build towers, secure each location, and push back against the Axons! And perhaps, find out the truth behind the war...


Be free of your restrictions and maze how you please!


Ways to Play
Outside of the Campaign, there's three major modes:
  • Quick Play: Pick a level, choose your Tower Loadout, and try to beat it!
  • Survival Mode: A longform mode that has you start with minimal towers and space, but throughout the course of the game, you'll receive randomized expansions that you can place where you please, and slowly grow your loadout. Just beating all the waves is a challenge in of itself.
  • Online Co-op: These are larger levels designed for 2, 3, or 4 players. Each of you chooses your Tower Loadout before the game begins, and then you're free to build where you please. Coordinate with your team, transfer resources, and try to clear each level!
All three of these modes support Global Leaderboards.


When will it release?
Axon TD will release in Early Access in Q3. By then, it will contain the following:
  • 32 Towers, Traps, and Mines
  • 8 Castable Abilities
  • Chapters 1 & 2 of the Campaign
  • Numerous Quick Play Levels
  • Survival Mode
  • Co-op with up to 4 Players
  • Leaderboards for Quick Play, Survival, and Co-op
  • And an actual Tutorial
How does this game differ from Element TD 2?
The speed, scale, and style of the game is very different, even from Element TD 2's Mazing Mode. You choose your Towers at the start of the game. You've got unlimited time between each waves. You have a limit to how much you can sell, making each placement really matter. And you can directly manipulate the map to add pathways that didn't exist before.


On some levels, you can even change where the "end" is.


Will there be Workshop Support?
Hypothetically, this would include the ability to create custom maps for Quick Play and Co-op. We don't know when it'll happen, but we're making Workshop Support a top priority for this game.

Pizza Time!
Burger slinging isn’t your vibe? Peter P is hanging out by the Burger Hero with a different proposal. How about becoming a Pizzamancer?

Pizzamancer is a new cosmetic class requiring the Moglomancer class. Pizzamancer includes new class skill animations, new skill names, and the “Cowabunga” title. Plus, you unlock the Pizzamancer Gear shop to earn the full Pizzamancer armor set and Pizza Slicer weapon. Don’t have the Moglomancer class yet? Head to the Pet Shop and find Mo G. Lynn to start earning the class or buy it from the Classes menu for Dragon Crystals.



Very Smol Pet Shop
Casey and his cat friends really love pizza. Though maybe not as much as Peter P. They are pretty chatty if you want to lounge around while digesting your Hero Burgers or after a long shift. Casey also has a Very Smol Pet Shop for you to buy, or turn into, one of these adorable cats for yourself.
 


Returning April Fool’s Fun
It’s not April Fool’s Day without Piddie the Fool! He’s back in Battleon with his Fool’s Day shop, including Mutatium potions and Fool’s Gifts. Meanwhile, a giant Chickencow has landed in the Social District and Aria could use your help investigating its mysterious appearance.

PvP Block Skill
The Block skill in PvP has been adjusted and is ready to play. It no longer has Reflect and you are Silenced for the duration.

Last Chance
  • Returning April Fool’s Day event content leaves May 3rd, 2023 (Burger Hero and Pizzamancer are evergreen)

Heroes of Loot - orangepascal
Hi! Just a short update to let you know that there is NOW a new Regulator City DEMO available ! Still in heavy development, but I'm very pleased with where the game currently is.

There's a smoother game-flow experience (mission structure, city progress, all make more sense as you play) and there is even some on-boarding for new players in a short little "tutorial" level. You'll also experience a much better stealthy and sneaking-around experience to complete your missions!



This demo also brings you a new playable character: Wrecking-ball ! His dash is VERY nice to use, and his Special ability certainly packs a punch ;)
