Greetings everyone! Thanks for tuning into the development of Phantom Hunter! The Early Access release has limited content, but we look to expand that content in the coming months.
For those not involved yet. Phantom Hunter is a difficult bullet hell platformer game with quick iteration loops. If you have 10 minutes, you can get a couple rounds in! There are classes, game mutations, and pendant (class customizations) to change up the game, so experiment, and have fun!
I hope you all enjoy playing the game and hope you all have as much fun playing it as we did!
We are looking to take feedback and suggestions, so don’t hesitate to leave comments!
Thank you to everyone that has pre-ordered The Great War: Western Front and has been enjoying early access. We trust that your strategic experience as Theatre and Field Commander is growing as you begin your campaigns. Your feedback is invaluable to us, especially for planning future adjustments. In this post, we will outline the feedback that has been raised and our plans to address it. Some of the changes will arrive in a small update within the coming days while others will come in a larger update scheduled for April.
During early access, AI difficulty has risen to the top of the discussion. This topic can be broken down into several points which together give the impression that the AI has an unfair advantage. The intended design is to have an AI which poses a challenge that scales with difficulty settings, but only by using the same options as the player. To ensure this comes across at release, we will address each point individually:
Seemingly Endless Resources
Some of you have reported that the AI appears to have far more Supply than it should during battle. This is indicated by heavy troop reinforcements, a high number of emplacements, and relentless artillery bombardment. We can confirm that the AI is required to manage Supply in the same way players are. However, we are closely examining how efficient the AI is at distributing and managing Supply and adjusting this efficiency to ensure it scales to difficulty.
AI Visibility Through the Fog of War
AI visibility through the Fog of War is designed to be limited for the AI as it is for players. This means that any actions such as artillery fire must pass a “visibility check”. However, the AI often places observation balloons aggressively, granting a long range of vision. While destroying these balloons will limit this vision to infantry, the AI will remember seen information. To ensure that the AI’s visibility does not extend too far, we will examine the range provided by its observation balloons. This includes addressing cases where the AI’s vision is unaffected by weather conditions, which is under investigation.
Use of Artillery
As mentioned above, the way the AI currently uses artillery is likely linked to its efficient management and use of Supply combined with additional range of vision. In addition to the two changes mentioned above, we will take a closer look at the AI use of artillery, to ensure it is used and spread in a way that matches expectations. Any resulting changes will be designed to make the precision and targeting of AI artillery to feel more human and authentic.
The update which is expected in the next few days will improve the AI experience in each of the above areas. The April update will then build upon these AI improvements and include other fixes to cover additional feedback. Thank you again for your feedback and suggestions. We trust you are as excited as we are for tomorrow’s full release! Good luck out there on the front, Commanders.
We're of course so extremely thankful to everyone who has backed us already and helped us smash through the 100% goal so quickly. We owe a big thank you to our existing community who inspired us to do this and showed their support from the start, as well as all the new faces who saw our project here and believed in us.
New feature video for tomorrow
We've got a new feature video all ready and waiting to mark the completion of the campaign set for tomorrow. It focuses on some of the location variety our team have been working on over the last few months and a bit of the lore behind each.
And while you are here, just two important announcements that apply to a handful of people.
Reminder to check your pledge add-ons
We've seen some people have taken add-ons for things they are already getting in their base reward. We messaged every one of you personally yesterday, but this is another reminder. If you don't want to be charged extra for something already included in your tier, you need to adjust your pledge before the campaign ends. A very easy rule to follow - if you pledged on ANY tier above “The Pilot" for 25 EUR, you shouldn't choose any add-ons. There is no combination of add-ons above this tier where you will be getting anything for that price that isn't already included in a standalone tier. If you need to check again, use our guide.
So if you pick any tier that is The Scavenger or above, you'll just be charged extra for something you likely would get anyway.
To anyone supporting a Kickstarter project for the first time
Your connected payment method will only be charged tomorrow after the campaign ends. However, we have observed on other people's projects that some of their community said their bank blocked Kickstarter the first time. So you may need to approve the charge as a trusted source. Every bank is different so how that process may look for you is unknown to us. But if anything, tomorrow once the campaign ends, go check if the payment appears on your side.
If not, Kickstarter gives you 7 days to try correct or verify and complete your payment. After that, the system counts you as an incomplete purchase and you won't be charged but you also won't be given backer access or rewards. That's all for now.
See you again here in 24 hours! - The Far From Home Team
