ExoCross - erictbusch
Due to a recent business model change for our current server hosting provider, we have unfortunately been forced to temporarily disable online multiplayer racing support in DRAG.

We are actively working on a suitable multi-platform replacement solution, and we will restore online functionality once this new multiplayer implementation is complete. We do not yet have a specific time frame to announce, but we are committed to completing this work during the early access period prior to the game's upcoming official release.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience during this transition.

Whirligig Media Player - Whirligig
Hi Everyone

So I've just uploaded the first version of Whirligig with OpenXR support I wish to shout about :) Check the betas: whirligig_openxr_early_access_v.4.972

So I've been working hard on this big update that will allow for a greater cross compatibility and better all round support.

Why OpenXR
Whirligig has for a long time support two SDK's. The Oculus SDK and SteamVR SDK. These SDK's are both in the current default version. When running Whirligig it will test the VR headset and then run the correct SDK. This has worked well for a long time but has some distinct disadvantages. The main issue that I have is that the code has to be split between the two SDK's which decreases the ability to fix issues as I need to test with both. It also means that separate support for every controller has to be made. On top of that whenever I update one beta I can't easily update others as each time I have to make major changes to the code to get it on each store. It restricts the builds to just those two platforms Oculus and Steam and currently they aren't running at the same versions.

OpenXR offers a way to integrate all the features and controllers without having to rewrite for every headset. This has long term advantages as all the major manufactures are starting to or already supporting OpenXR.

Whirligig OpenXR - Advantages

Controller Skin support for all controllers. I've universal controller design and you can choose between which one you have.

Requirements to run SteamVR or Oculus Store are no longer required. You can use whichever store you wish as long as it supports OpenXR. Anyone with a Mixed Reality headset for instance can now run Whirligig without SteamVR.

Universal Updates. As Whirligig exists on both PC VR and mobile VR this update allows me to work on all versions at once. This allows me to make improvements to one version and that can be translated across all versions. When things are going strong there will be simultaneous releases of new updates on multiple platforms at once.

New headsets with OpenXR support will have automatic compatibility.

New features that come to OpenXR can be integrated giving multiple headsets automatic support. For example OpenXR has introduced hand tracking support. Once I've integrated that it will become available with each headset as they add their OpenXR support.

Whirligig OpenXR - Disadvantages

Not all features are supported with the current OpenXR version. The main one that has support in all Headset SDK's but fails on practically all of them is User Presence. As this feature is currently not working the option for things to happen when putting on the headset is practically disabled.

Once it's been fixed it'll be integrated back in but until then it isn't functioning properly.

Many advanced features that are available with a headset are only available with their SDK. This means that I currently have to miss out on certain updates such as video passthrough and eye tracking. All the major headset manufacturers have signed up to support OpenXR however so these features will come in time.

Individual controller models have been dropped. I’ve been working on a universal controller that has the standard layout without being headset specific. The advantage of this is that I can now have skinnable controllers for all headsets and I can also improve the on controller controls (which I have done). I’ll continue to improve this support as I go.

So give it a go
This release has a lot of major under the hood changes with all the old SDK and controller scripts ripped out and replaced with the OpenXR setup. I’ve also completely replaced the input system so that it should have better compatibility with gamepads as well as VR Controllers.

So I now want as many people as I can to give it a go and report back any issues they’re having. With such a big change switching the default is quite a frightening prospect so any issues I can squash before that the better.

If you run into bugs message here or contact me directly phileday@yahoo.co.uk

In Other News
As mentioned above Whirligig is available for some of the mobile headsets. The first that has official support is the Oculus Quest 2 (not the Quest apparently so I need to fix that). This is available from applabs but I’m also giving codes away to people who already own Whirligig on Steam or other stores. If you’re interested in a Quest 2 Applab code email me phileday@yahoo.co.uk and I’ll send one over. Note, I only have a limited number though.

The other headset that it works with is the Pico 3/4. However this isn’t available in the store yet. I do hope to get it in the store but I need testers to help me get it store ready (it’s pretty close to be honest). So if you own a Pico headset email me and I’ll be able to send a link so you can try it out.

And Finally
That’s it for now. I’m going to be ramping up releases as I work through the bugs so expect a bit more activity here over the coming weeks.

Hope you’re all well and keep watching.

All the best

Phil

Company of Heroes 3 - John_RE

Overview

Our team at Relic is very excited to share the first major update for Company of Heroes 3, which we’ve codenamed Operation Sapphire Jackal. This update includes a significant number of bug fixes, quality of life improvements, gameplay balance adjustments, and all-new features and content. While part of our team was working on our post-launch hot fixes to address top issues, a lot of us were working in parallel on the content for Operation Sapphire Jackal. In addition to all our efforts on this update, you can also check out our recap of the game’s launch to see how we’re working through our players’ feedback and reports.

With so many changes going into this update, our team will be standing by to roll out hot fixes should any major issues come up. Be sure to review some of the exciting changes in Operation Sapphire Jackal below and leave us your feedback after you have a chance to see them in-game. We will be releasing the full patch notes along with the update on March 28th.

Check out this quick summary, then read below for more details.

New Content & Systems

Challenges

As part of this update, we're introducing Challenges. With Challenges, you will have the opportunity to complete daily and weekly in-game objectives in Multiplayer and Co-op vs A.I. automatch to earn Merit, which can be used to unlock cosmetics for your favorite units.

For Daily and Weekly Challenges, you can expect new, randomly selected Challenges ranging from 'Kill 50 vehicles with anti-tank guns' to 'Gain 50 veteran ranks with Wehrmacht infantry'.

Daily Challenges will appear at 5pm PT every day and three new Weekly Challenges will be available each Saturday at 5pm PT.

Cosmetics

With this update, we are launching a range of cosmetic options in the store, allowing players to customize their armies in both multiplayer and singleplayer. Some content featured in the store can be purchased with either War Bonds or Merit (earnable with Challenges), or solely with War Bonds – more on these further below.

One of our goals with the In-Game Store is to ensure there is always a balanced mix of earnable and paid content available so that players can choose how they use the store, and that there is unlockable content available to everyone. This will apply to everything in the store when it launches, and as we move forward.

The cosmetics available in this update are historically inspired. Check out this sneak peek below for a taste of some of the cool stuff on offer.

War Bonds are a form of in-game currency that can only be earned by purchasing War Bond packs. War Bonds can be used to purchase any content in the in-game store.

Changes & Fixes

This update for Company of Heroes 3 includes hundreds of bugfixes, changes and improvements. You will be able to review the full 1.1.0 patch notes when the update goes live tomorrow.

Some highlights include:
  • A small update to the Unique Player Color option. Allies will now be cool colors and enemies will be warm colors
  • Fixed several icons and portraits with the correct Company of Heroes 3 assets
  • All new voiceover for Gurkha Infantry
  • Audio adjustments for map pings
  • Added an option to enable Exclusive Control Groups. With this option, squads only occupy one control group at a time, like in previous CoH games
  • Fixed the Recently Played With list
  • Adjusted territory layout on (8) Mignano Gap and made minor adjustments to Strategic and Victory Point locations on (6) Gazala Landing Ground
  • Fixed several issues where bridges did not correctly have cover
  • Bloom was removed and we fixed blur or ā€œhazeā€ on the maps
  • And plenty of more additional changes and fixes for Audio, Art, Animation, UI/UX, and Maps
Gameplay Changes

Though this update does not include what we consider a ā€œfullā€ balance pass, we have made several changes to help shake up multiplayer and co-op. We’ll be keeping an eye on your feedback and matches and will roll out further balance adjustments in a timely fashion.

Here is a quick summary of some of the changes, but for everything else, be sure to review the patch notes when this update rolls out.

We’ve implemented a small set of targeted changes to address US Forces Pathfinders, the Afrikakorps Carro Armato M13/40 tank and Airplane Loiters
  • Pathfinders have had their utility and early power toned down
  • The M13/40 has also seen some reductions in power
  • Loiters have been toned down to be less oppressive
  • Vehicles commanded to face in a different direction will turn properly instead of driving in circles
  • Many tooltips and descriptions have been updated to better reflect the abilities, units, veterancy, and upgrades for greater clarity and information to the player.
Summary

With new gameplay challenges, unit customization and a host of fixes and changes, the team is looking forward to hearing more from all of you! Operation Sapphire Jackal is the first major update we have planned for CoH3, with many more to come in the months and years ahead.
