This week is announcement week, with last week and next week being content updates.
Thank you to all the players who tried out the new Oil Drilling Major Update! It is great to see all the creative drilling rig designs and how players are engaging with the new mechanics.
For a long time now, players have got in touch from time to time asking about official merchandise. We have remained focused only on the video game software, and wanted to avoid being distracted by other stuff. However, we would quite like to wear some Stormworks merch, and it would be good to make it happen for the players who want it. It may not be too big a distraction using service like Red Bubble. Is this something that you may want? Let us know if this is something you are interested in, and if it is something that players want, then we can make it happen!
We are continuing to plan out the rest of the year. We are planning 15 more free minor updates spread across the rest of the year (one for every second week), a free major update in summer time, a new paid DLC around October, and another free major update in early 2024!
Not all of these updates are fully planned out yet, while others are deep in development! We look forward to your ideas and theories on what these updates might be :-)
Hi Villagers! Are you curious about Kainga but haven’t had the chance to dive into the magical world yet? Now’s your chance with the free Kainga demo!
It’s great seeing everyone’s passion for Kainga and all the fantastic creations across Kainga’s Lands! I’ve created a demo to get more players into the game to see if it’s right for them. If you have Kainga already, help me spread the word!
KAINGA DEMO
The newest demo version contains all the changes made to the final version of the game, a few maps and Thinkers to try out and 69 technologies to unlock! You can play as much as you want and when you get the full game, you can keep the progress you made.
Take control of one of the Thinkers and, with the help of your people, grow a unique town and complete short challenges to unlock new technologies that will differentiate your next playthrough.
For those of you visiting the fair city of Boston this weekend, Pizza Possum will be part of the Raw Fury booth at PAX East.
This will be the first time we let people go on a munching spree, but for those of you who can’t make it don’t worry! We will have more demos coming soon, including digital ones, so it won’t be long before you can embrace your inner chonky possum. 🍕🍕🍕
Today marks a special day! It’s the start of our devlog series, the weekly tool that we will use to keep you updated on progress, news and any particularly amusing bugs from behind the scenes of Big Fat Battle’s development!
We decided to create this devlog to maintain constant communication between us and you, our community members. Of course, for the most direct information (plus the opportunity to sign up for early playtests) there is our official Discord channel, but we have carved out this dedicated space to provide regular, juicy chunks!
Why Big Fat Battle?
So, first things first: why Big Fat Battle? After King of Crabs we wanted to create another fun, high-quality PvP game with a load of replayability whilst also retaining what makes our games special. We felt that the opportunity to develop a game for PC first would allow us to marry up the quality of experience with a competitive side steeped in our brand of humor.
The whole development of the game (obviously still a work in progress) has been brilliant, but our character design really feels like it stands out. We have BILLIONS of ideas for new ones too and we can’t wait to share some of them with you! If you want to help us choose what to make next, join our Discord!
You might ask, “why a shooter”? And what makes it different? We love shooters here at Robot Squid, both traditional arena shooters and battle royales, but we felt that lately the genre has become a little stale and inaccessible to non-hardcore players. We also love games like Fall Guys, Stumble Guys and other party games, but they didn't scratch the competitive and fast-paced itch. The challenge then became how to craft something unique?
One of our solutions to this challenge was the introduction of a wide range of varied characters, both in stat profiles and in scale! Often shooters will fall back on a single hitbox as it makes balancing and skins design easier… so we threw that convention out the window and chose a less trodden path. With non-uniformcharacters, head sizes and agility you’ll have to change the way you play the game depending on your choices. Coupled with our planned round variation, powerups and maps this should make it feel like there are endless possibilities!
Our honest hope is for you to keep coming back with your friends and experience all the variety that our game has to offer! For us, Big Fat Battle sits in the perfect zone between casual and competitive. In the end, we’re just making a game that first and foremost we want to play, and we hope you do it too!
If you want to know more about all of this, remember to check out our Discord channel too - become a part of the community!
Get ready to party even harder with a brand new DLC featuring a variety of exciting and original content fresh from the minds of Eek! Games! 🎉
The DLC will include a uniquely themed House Party side-story, a set of clothing items that can be worn by the entire cast of characters and, the thing we’re most excited about: two new original characters specific to the additional storyline who will join the party later this year!
One of the upcoming guests will be female and the other will be male. That way, we can satisfy the overwhelming demand for more female characters, while also ensuring that male-preferring players have another partier to bond with!
We’ll be announcing an official DLC title and more info on the House Party - New Content Expansion Pack soon, so wishlist it now and keep an eye out for more updates!
We’re taking your responses to heart so we can make the best possible House Party experience for as many players as we can! We’ve got a lot of information on possible directions to take future content for the game now, and we hope you’re looking forward to seeing us put your feedback into action!
The House Party - New Content Expansion Pack was actually created just for this purpose. It will bring new content to satisfy players who want more original story, characters, and characters based on the House Party universe!
It will also feature a new type of clothing that was most highly requested from the feedback form and incorporate a handful of written suggestions that were sent in at the bottom of the survey. It was made for you, brahs, so we hope you enjoy it! 🔥
For those of you who are looking forward to more real-life guests joining the fun (instead of more House Party universe content), the House Party - Murder Mystery Expansion Pack will still be releasing this summer, as originally planned.
As mentioned in previous news posts, our next real-life guest is excited to personally introduce herself to you... in a special custom-made costume. Everything is being finalized for this, and we're preparing to share the big announcement with you within a couple of weeks!
We hope you're looking forward to officially meeting the new guest! We’re sure she’s going to, like, totally steal your heart, brahs! 😉
NEW! Chatterbox - A controllable part that allows robots to give humans commands, such as Follow or Back Up. Can be configured with different robot voices.
Currently only in English. Chatterbox text and related interface text will be localized to other supported languages in the next update.
Seat - A comfy spot for humans to sit and ride on a robot, complete with a controllable lap bar to hold riders in place. Can be paired with the Chatterbox to tell humans to get on or off.
Currently only in English. Chatterbox text and related interface text will be localized to other supported languages in the next update.
Python Sandbox - We are adding some safeguards to prevent robot scripts from accessing things they probably shouldn’t. The Getting Started > Sandbox section of the API documentation has more information to understand related error messages and permission configuration. When robot parts overlap each other in Edit mode, a helpful warning is shown.
Changes:
An upward component of the Decoupler's ejection force has been removed for more realistic behavior. To compensate, the max value on the ejection force slider for each Decoupler (1x1x1 and 3x3x1) has been increased.
For consistency, the Start On property is now listed at the bottom of the basic properties section for Servos, DC Motors, and Powered LED.
Bug fixes:
A particular plant-based sandbox secret objective wasn’t properly awarding the cosmetics for completing it. That should be better now.
A dastardly difficult secret objective in a groovy challenge was not properly triggering when the conditions were met. That should be resolved.
Additional small changes and bug fixes to improve the experience.
We hope that your week was as productive as ours. We released another video diary, so if you missed it, it’s already available here. And don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel to follow the updates!
Spring has almost come into full force. We are sure that many of you have already switched from your winter shoes to something more suitable for traveling through puddles. That will be very handy, as we’ll be returning to the creepy swamps of ours. Try not to fall into the quick mud. It's time to hit the road!
Subduing swampy landscapes
While our technical department’s current work is marked as "Secret", our artists have taken up work polishing some swamp landscapes. We think that everything is turning out rather well and has a nice threatening atmosphere – these swampy waters are best avoided, don’t you think? Because we know, don’t we, where zombies are apt to crawl out of…
An abandoned village can also give you the creeps. But who are we to refuse to travel through abandoned places, right? A place like that is sure to hide within itself a lot of secrets ... as well as treasures!
The cultist who knew too much…
... absolutely doesn’t want to let us go with all that knowledge! Just look at the new tricks he learned to surprise us during the battle. You can't give up, you have to give this gentleman a battle, otherwise the scales may tip to the wrong side.

Karma bites
By the way, do you remember how not so long ago we told you that we were remaking the karma display? We managed to wrangle up several animations of the process from our animators' desktop. Which snake will you root for during the game?
⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
What's in Sigismund's box?
Those who often play for Persival’s Gold Digger know how annoying Sigismund can be. He constantly tries to put his hand in your pocket and replenish his treasury. Even though the animations are really good, don't get distracted and don't allow him to fleece you. It might cost you your life and a successful walkthrough!
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Each hero has their own way
Persival, Bjorn and Vanadis have completely different approaches to achieving their goals. And each of them deserves a fitting final to their story. In addition to the endings for the event lines, our artists are developing personal endings for each of the characters. While we continue to make our way out of the swamps, some of Bjorn’s many endings are already being drawn!
Well, that's it for today! Don't forget to subscribe to our social networks and feel free to ask any questions you might have about our game – we’re always happy to interact with you.
DeployAI: Entering the final app blocks all horror events from spawning, but if a Stalker was already spawned before clicking the app, the player could still be killed. In this patch, I've given the player immortality even if there are Stalkers spawned.
Minigame Focus: After entering the PC when there was a hacking minigame waiting, you could press ESC/RMB and lose focus of the minigame. This has been now fixed.
Camera/Sound Settings: Camera and sound settings now save properly between runs.
With nothing but wins in their froggy hands, the Goblin is crowned the Champion of Fashion and wielder of the Golden Spork!
Goblin, how are you feeling right now?
This is the proudest moment of my life, and I’m honoured to wield the Golden Spork! HAPPY RAGE FLOWS THROUGH ME! - Goblin
