We can finally confirm that Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs will be arriving in Total War: WARHAMMER III as part of Update 3.0 on April 13th! 🔥
You can pre-order Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs today - and if you do so before release, you'll get 10% off the launch price!
Legendary characters
Three ferocious and foul Legendary Lords are included: Astragoth Ironhand, High Priest of Hashut; Drazhoath the Ashen, Sorcerer Prophet of Hashut; and Zhatan the Black, commander of the Tower of Zharr. They are joined by the one and only Legendary Hobgoblin Hero himself, Gorduz Backstabber. This maniacal group intend to construct the Great Drill of Hashut, with which they will burrow through the very fabric of reality itself to conquer both the known world and perhaps also far more.
We’ll be sharing a more in-depth look at Astragoth Ironhand's gameplay alongside some of Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs' features in an upcoming showcase, so keep an eye on the official Total War channels for further info.
Beyond that, we’ve got more blogs and videos on the way very soon showcasing our other two Legendary Lords from Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs, and we'll of course have a full set of Patch Notes when the Chaos Dwarfs arrive in Update 3.0 on April 13th.
Welcome to the first Dev Diary for The Lamplighters League and the Tower at the End of the World. My name is Chris Rogers—I’m the game’s Director and in this first dev diary I wanted to share the inspiration behind the game.
Our vision for The Lamplighters League was always to make a tactical game that featured an ensemble cast of charming rogues, desperate odds, and a larger than life adventure. We wanted the game’s setting to be familiar enough for you to jump right in without a lot of table setting, but keep the flexibility to create unique abilities for our cast and daunting enemies for them to fight.
That led us to our alternate 1932. Behind the scenes, a secret occult war has raged for centuries over control of a mystical tower that has existed since the dawn of time. As the game opens, the enemy has all but won the war. There are no heroes left, the best of the best are dead or gone to ground. It is up to you to assemble the best of the worst—thieves, killers, and scoundrels—for one last ditch campaign to stop the enemy before they can claim the tower for themselves.
It was an ambitious vision, and in order to pull it all off we knew we needed to start somewhere.
Characters, not Units
We started with the characters.
We went to work on early prototypes, building an ensemble cast of Lamplighters who would all have their own unique abilities, their own views on the war they found themselves in, as well their own views on each other. From early on, we wanted The Lamplighters League to be a tactical game where you play characters, not units.
The shipping game features 10 recruitable agents
We love ensemble casts at Harebrained Schemes. There’s something special about seeing a group of characters, each with their own expertise, motivations, desires, and quirks coming together to accomplish a nearly impossible goal. And a squad-based game is a great opportunity to build an ensemble since you get to take charge of your entire team of agents.
In the earliest development of the game we relied on paper prototypes, playing tabletop versions of the game to try out ideas quickly. These were pretty crude, played with 3x5 cards and printed rulesets. Even then we knew that our agents’ fighting abilities, motivations, their visuals, and personality were all intertwined with one another and would need to inform and reinforce each other to make up a great Lamplighter. In the end, those aspects are so connected that it’s difficult to stick to just one aspect of an agent in trying to describe what makes each special.
Ingrid, for example, was one of the earliest characters we prototyped. She was always the femme fatale: icily flirtatious, precise and professional. We could hear her voice in our heads and we knew how she saw the world, but it took iteration to find an ability set that clicked for her. On our paper battlefield, we found that that meant melee, she would be up close and personal… and, as a melee focused character, she would never miss. But shouldn’t the melee character be a big, hulking brute? Yet the best femme fatales always surprise us with their ruthlessness. If you’re playing her effectively she’s often surrounded, finishing off enemy after enemy, more vulnerable, literally, than she first appears… and that might have some resonance with her character as well.
Ingrid doesn’t miss
In addition to their unique ability set, each character has their own innate passive ability that is a key to both their personality and the way they fight. Ingrid, for example, has Killer Instinct; she gets an additional Action Point when she eliminates an enemy, allowing her to string together multiple killing blows with the right coordination and planning—like I said, precise and professional.
Eddie’s pistols can miss, but not when he uses Bullseye
Of course, a great ensemble isn’t about any one character, but how each fits together as a group. We designed your agents to play well off of each other tactically as well as narratively. From the beginning, we wanted recruiting a new Lamplighter to your team to be a big moment in the game because each one adds a whole new playstyle to your arsenal. And as your roster expands, you can find new synergies between your agents.
On the dev team we all have our favorite squads, some of us choose our squads for the pure combo interplay between the agents’ ability sets, and others because they enjoy the narrative interplay of the team.
These two may not like each other but their ability sets compliment each other nicely
Always Pulp, Sometimes Noir, Never Camp
We’ll talk more about your agents in a future dev diary. For now, let’s talk a little about the world they live in.
The Lamplighters League draws inspiration from the pulp adventures of the 20’s and 30’s. Reading those old stories, you come away with this feverish sense that anything might be out there in the shadows. In those pages, there are mysteries and strange threats that rational science can’t fully explain. In The Lamplighters League, you are thrust into just such a conflict. Many of your agents are uninitiated in the ways of the occult world, meaning that they find themselves in the exact same position as you are, coming to terms with the world’s true nature even as they step into the breach.
The Tidespawn are ruthless pack hunters
Meanwhile, your foe, a secret cult that calls themselves the Banished Court, seems to hold all the cards. Each faction of the Court has access to strange and uncanny powers that make them especially dangerous. You won’t have much to counter them at first, just a few agents, and it will be up to you to determine how to do it. Will you pursue a strategy of limiting their progress by harrying them or instead focus on building up your team and searching out the relics you will need to stop them once and for all? Along the way you will rescue allies, destroy evil shrines, raid the enemy’s supplies, and steal from ancient tombs. At some point you will have to face the Court’s powerful Scions on the field, dangerous enemies with incredible and growing power.
Whatever approach you choose, The Lamplighters League is always a rip-roaring pulp adventure.
Marteau’s Crossroads project is key to the Court’s plans.
Besides pulp adventures, one of the other key touchstones for us was the wry wit of the noir detectives of the time period. In those books and films, you always feel that the quips and verbal repartee are a way of coping with the looming shadows and sour corruption that threaten to overwhelm the characters. It’s these occasional moments of Noir, the moments when you lose an agent, or they contemplate the dangers they are facing with a fatalist bravado that are some of my personal favorites.
We have often said during development that our game would be “always pulp, sometimes noir, but never camp.” We never wanted to wink at our characters or make fun of the setting for some quick laughs. We have tried to resist the temptation to sacrifice the stakes for you or your characters in favor of a quick poke at our pulp origins.
Infiltration & Combat
In The Lamplighters League, you are outnumbered and outgunned, and instead of conventional soldiers you have a squad of criminals and assassins. You won’t survive by fighting fair, so you better learn to fight dirty.
Early on we knew we had a challenge (which is just a fancy word for a problem): how to give the player the flexibility they needed to plan and execute an ambush quickly. We built a number of prototypes on paper and a couple in-engine, and in the end the clear winner was a hybrid between real-time infiltration and turn-based combat. It was so fast and fun to scout enemy positions, look for advantages, and set up ambushes in real-time. Patrolling enemies added tension to your efforts to find the best place to “go loud,” and, crucially, realtime would give you lots of control and power over how a combat encounter would play out.
Use real-time abilities to help even the odds before you go loud
At its core, The Lamplighters League is a tactical turn-based combat game. A combat encounter plays out quite differently, however, depending on how you choose to approach it during the real-time infiltration phase. Each of your agents has one of three real-time roles and each role has a limited number of “takedowns” that they can use to eliminate enemies before the fight begins. We’ll talk more about that in a future dev diary, too.
At some point you’re going to go loud, whether that’s because it's time to execute your well-planned ambush or because the enemy has discovered you snooping around. Once the enemy is aware of you, the game drops into turn-based combat. We will talk more in-depth about The Lamplighters League’s take on turn-based combat (which is the backbone of the game) in future dev diaries.
What’s Next?
That’s all for now. I hope this quick introduction to the game has given you a better understanding of The Lamplighters League and the Tower at the End of the World. Our next two diaries are going to examine our agents in more depth and give you a chance to meet more Lamplighters from our game as well as hear from other voices on our dev team!

We’re happy to say that the issue gating the release of The Art of War update has been resolved. The revisions have passed our QA review and we’re on track to deliver the content based on our original schedule. Thanks for playing Lost Ark and enjoy the new Artist class! The March “Art of War” Update arrives in Arkesia tomorrow. Downtime for the update will begin on March 15 at 12AM PDT (7AM UTC) and is expected to last 4 hours. Put your PvP skills to the test in a new 96-player (48v48) Realm versus Realm mode, support allies in creative ways with the new Artist Advanced Class, experience a host of Quality of Life (QoL) updates and read through the comprehensive balance changes in this release. There’s also a variety of impactful progression events which include a Punika Powerpass and Hyper Express Plus Event to quickly level up new characters.
Spotlight
Artist Advanced Class
The Artist is capable of tactical versatility with illusion powers from her brush, and specializes in supporting her team. With her magical brush and flowing ink, the Artist can either choose to attack foes directly or summon holy beasts by painting them. While the Artist's attack power is on the low side, she is capable of providing strong support to allies, and rescuing them from peril with her illusion powers— making her a welcome member of any party. Learn more the Artist's Class Identity, Engravings, and Skills in the Artist Lost Ark Academy.
Tulubik Battlefield
Fight for more than just glory. Select your Faction, earn rewards, and determine the fate of Rowen in 96-player (48 v 48) Realm versus Realm matches. Will you maintain order or unleash rebellion? You need to be Faction Rank 3 and Item Level 1490 to enter Tulubik Battlefield. To play the new mode, click on the “Rowen Battlefield” icon on the minimap (under Welcome Challenge) or go to the battlefield entrance at either Regarbank Great Plains or Fighter’s Haven. You can also enter from other places like major cities, always available islands, and your Stronghold. Explore the rules, rewards, and the Tulubik schedule to prepare for war.
Arkesia Grand Prix
The fan-favorite Naruni Racing event returns a year after its Western debut! In this mode, two teams of seven players (7v7) will compete against each other, racing around a course while transformed while preventing the other team from progressing. Earn event coins that can be exchanged for a variety of impactful rewards such as a Naruni Mount Selection Chest, honing materials, and more. An NPC named “Arkesia Grand Prix Manager” will arrive in every major city to help you enter the event, granting an “[Event][Daily] Go to the Arena!” quest for players to gain entry. Players must be level 50 to enter the event.
Ark Pass Season 3
Ark Pass Season 3 adds new ways for players to earn meaningful rewards just by playing the game. Players can complete missions to progress through 30 Ark Pass levels, and with each level reached, new rewards will be unlocked and earned. The regular Ark Pass is completely free and grants a variety of helpful rewards, such as Pheons, honing material selection chests, a Legendary Card Pack, and even the Chromarong Pet! Ark Pass progress is earned across your entire roster, and the rewards are roster bound.
While all players will have access to the free Ark Pass, those interested in more rewards and cosmetics can exchange Royal Crystals for two premium reward tracks (Premium & Super Premium) which each layer in additional rewards to the leveling track. The Premium Ark Pass adds rewards at all 30 levels earned alongside the free rewards. Some examples include more Dark Priest Honing Material Selection Chests, battle items, Tier 3 Gem Chests, and the Dark Priest Warhorse Mount!
On top of the Regular & Premium rewards, the Super Premium Ark Pass weaves the Dark Priest skin collection, the Dark Priest Wallpaper, and a Legendary Card Pack through the 30 levels of the Ark Pass. The Premium pass is available in exchange for 1,500 Royal Crystals, and the Super Premium (all rewards & the Dark Priest skins) for 3,000 Royal Crystals. If you start off Premium, you can upgrade to Super Premium for an additional 1,500 Royal Crystals. The Premium and Super Premium Ark Passes will be available through the in-game Ark Pass UI until May 10 and mission progress can be earned until June 6.
Find all the cosmetics showcased in the ‘Store Updates’ section of the release notes!
Progression Events
Punika Powerpass
Players will receive a Punika Powerpass after completing Punika's quest “Berver's Friend” during, or before, the event period. The Punika Powerpass will function like the North Vern Powerpasses available to players in the launch version of Lost Ark— once you’ve completed the storyline through that continent, you can use it to bring an alternate character to that point in the game. With this version of the Punika Powerpass, you'll receive Item Level 1340 gear.
Hyper Express Plus & Engraving Support
Pairing well with the Punika Powerpass, players will be able to designate one character between item Level 1340 and 1445 on their roster to participate in the Hyper Express Plus Event, where they’ll earn honing materials to quickly level up to Item Level 1445 and beyond. The designated character will earn rewards every 15 Item Levels up to 1445, including a wealth of Silver, honing materials, Gems, Engravings, and even a Legendary Card Selection Pack!
As a new feature available with the Hyper Express Plus, the Engraving Support system lets players choose 4 engravings to be in effect at level 3 during the event. Here’s how to get started: After selecting a Hyper Express Plus character, the Engraving Support button will light up. Click the Engraving Support button to open the Engraving Support page and select your 4 desired Engravings. Press the Toggle Engraving Support button to start using their effects. The effects of Engraving Support will also be shown in your Character Profile.
Story Express
Clear story missions to level up a character from Item level 1 to 1340 and earn rewards like Item Level 1340 Argos Legendary Gear that will help you progress even further. With progression to Item Level 1340, the Story Express event also sets you up to take advantage of Hyper Express Plus and more easily get any new character up to Item Level 1445.
Any character that has not yet completed the ‘On the Border’ quest from Rethamis can become a designated Story Express character. Select Story Express Character through the ‘Event Quest’ window and clear story missions for valuable progression materials. Story completion rewards include Crystalline Aura (14 days), Epic Class Engraving Recipe Selection Pouch, Epic Combat Engraving Recipe Selection Pouch, and additional honing materials. Skipped quests via a Powerpass or Knowledge Transfer will not offer Story Express completion rewards.
You can only designate one Story Express character per account. If you delete your Story Express character, you will not be able to designate another one.

The long-awaited beta for the updated Bounty Hunt is here! Read below on instructions on how to opt in!
This time we are running the beta in two 2-week phases. The first one is now live! After the first beta period, we will collect feedback to implement potential phases for a 2nd phase before the eventual release into live version.
Changes
Starting with some of the core questing changes! Location shuffle now takes place every 7 chapters. In addition, a new Forecast button lets you preview where the field locations will move upon next shuffle. Further, after losing a bounty fight, players can rechallenge the bounty upon recovery, instead of moving. Passing a quest location while having duplicates of the same quest contract will now grant only one item instead of as many copies as the duplicate contracts you had.
New perks! Upon each Norma level up, players can choose one of 3 perks to permanently improve their stats or grant other bonuses.
These changes are intended to give players a clearer path of progression toward being able to take down harder bounties at higher levels, while making simple quest gathering a less efficient way to play the entire game.
A new PvP bounty system has been added! Defeating another player gives the players the Assassin's Badge item, which allows picking up Player Bounties from home panels. These bounties are hidden from other players. In addition, a public bounty is issued for such scoundrels, with a bounty that goes up for every KO they inflict, and which can be claimed by anyone who defeats them.
A new invader has been added: Lost Rogue! This dangerous new foe may be easier to defeat on paper, but the attempt carries great risk! Players may choose a specific invader, or leave it to be random from lobby options.
New items, and lots and lots of item rebalancing! Combat sweets now last for X battles, instead of X chapters, and are placed in the player's inventory upon purchase. They can be activated from there at will. Shop prices are now adjusted for some characters individually, rather than simply based on their stats.
A new special shop has been added: Shady Merchant. This elusive merchant may appear and offer you their powerful wares at high cost.
Summon characters now have speech bubbles!
...and more!
How to Join
To participate, go to the properties of 100% Orange Juice in your Steam Library, then BETAS page -> select "beta - Public Beta" from the dropdown menu.
Progress in the beta version is separate from your main save and will not interfere with that when you return to the normal game build.
